I've had 4 Marguis in the past. Loved them all. Horsepower, quiet and smooth ride. I don't think Ford will keep the G.M. around. The G.M. needs new sheet metal, and an engine to get better gas mileage. This may sound stupid, but I miss the trunk space and trunk lid. Some cars may have a huge trunk but without that huge lib, forget it. I almost like the Sable, but the side sheet metal is bland. I currently like the Milan the most except it's lacking the 3.5 engine. I would like this car in a coupe. Ford should consider a retro '67 Cougar as a midsize coupe and convertible. I hope Ford keeps the Mercury brand around. I'm not a lover of the 3 bar grille on Fords. I will not buy one. I have always liked the looks of the Mercury over the Fords 90% of the time. I currently own a '97 Thunderbird. My kids are married and out of the house. I wanted something sporty for once. The thunderbird is my favorite of all time. My brother-in-law won one in '61. Of all the Ford models out there, the thunderbird was on my must have list. I would like to have Ford build another midsize T-bird 4 seater 2 door coupe. I heard stories that not happening. So I'll settle for a Milan coupe. Thinking about it, My first Marquis was a 2 door coupe. I would consider that too. I just rented a Mustang to travel the old U.S. 66 in Missouri and Kansas. Hertz gave me an orange one. You couldn't miss me. It was fun to drive, But too small for my needs. I had Fords

Over the years we have owned three Grand Marquis' and five Crown Victoria's. All have been very reliable. The fuel economy is not bad for a car this big. The later models average 24 to 27 highway. Our current 2004 Grand Marquis proved it's ruggedness in 2005 when my wife ran off the interstate, sideswipping the guardrail, spinning out, jumping a ditch, and plowing into a hillside. She walked away without a scratch. The car had $8300.00 in sheet metal damage, but was still drivable. After the three month repair, the car was sent to the alignment shop, and to everyone's surprise, was still within factory spec's. We still have the car, and it is still trouble free. It drives and tracks perfectly. No wonder police departments and taxi companies prefer these cars. The cars are outdated, but function with the flawlessness of a car that has had all of the bugs worked out of them. These cars are not made to impress the neighbors, but are a good transportation value. We will continue to drive the big Fords and Mercury's as long as they are avaliable.

The Grand Marquis is the only Mercury I would own. I"ve owned two of them a 1994 and a 2002 LSE. It is the only sedan I will buy, even though Ford has done a terrible job with the platform in general - complete neglect as the company throws money away on lesser product I would never buy in a million years.

My wife and I just had a baby - so she get to drive the Grand Marquis, and I"m stuck with the Toyota.

Once the Grand Marquis goes, you may as well shut down all your Mercury dealerships - if i wanted to buy copies of Japanese cars, I'll go to my Toyota dealership.

Mercury needs new vehicles! I suggest that you build the Meta One and the Messenger. I also suggest you bring back the cougar.

With Dodge's Challenger and Chevrolet's Camaro that both will soon be back on the road, the mustang will be crushed. It needs all the help it can get. Make a new Cougar and style it like th 1969 Cougar.

If you build the Messenger and resurrect the Cougar then Ford's sports car line will not die. Also if you are to build the Meta One it will help to boost The image of Ford with such a stylish and bold vehicle

Good luck Ford

I bought a used 2003 CV Police Interceptor for my daughter because it's a very safe car and also because it was a very good buy. After test driving it myself, I realized that this is an excellent road vehicle. The heavy duty suspension and power train make it a very pleasent car to drive and one that will probably last over 400,000 miles. In addition, it gets around 24-25mpg hwy. Too bad Ford never styled

I love the body sttyle of this car. I live in Austria the Ford vehiclesd sold here are....rubbish. Sorry, but the designs are so ugly and borinh! I would love to buy a Grand Marquis! Unfortunately they are not sold here in Europe. I will have to import one if that's possible.
I love American cars and please don't retire the Grand Marquis, the Crown Victoria and the Town car. They are your flagships, without them Ford USA will depreciate to being as boring as Ford Europe!

I hope Ford never stops making these v8 RWD cars. These are the only thing they make well ! All of there FWD cars are garbage, with piss poor reliability.

I have no use for FWD, jelly bean looking, no quality having boxes that all the manufacturers are producing en mass.

Some of us appreciate large RWD, body on frame, v8 luxury type cars. We dont all want to be driving around in snotty little jap/euro boxes.

I cant tow my boat with any Camry or Accord. Long live the v8 RWD's !

I am 38- I have owned 2 Grand Marquis. The first was a 95 w/ the 190 hp engine. Great car. it had 247k on when my wife tried to mate the front end with the rear end of a mustang. Insurance company totaled it out. It ran like a champ. My 02 Grand Marquis is a much better vehicle in all respects. There are many things that I like about it. It has a very roomy interior, a must for me and my family, since my 14 year old is 6'1". The mafia sized trunk will hold six bodies or all the luggage for a family of three plus some extra. My younger brother, who dosen't like "big"cars asked me this last christmas to bring down what he couldn't fit into his Focus. I averaged 28MPG on the trip to my folks house (over 600 mi) with the cruise locked at 70 MPH. It has been a maintenance free/worry free vehicle and has a very cofortable ride and is fun to drive. Performance brake rotors and ceramic pads only improved stopping abilities. The thing I like the most however, is when I stand on the accelarator, I get a RESPONSE!!! It kicks out of O/D and shifts into passing gear and away I go. I ate a 300M for lunch a couple of weeks ago, and have taken a BMW 3 series to the cleaners. Restyling the car is not a necessary must. Improving performance is though. As a sleeper, you aren't going to get a better bang for your buck. But the addition of the 3 valve 4.6L V-8 or a supercharger, or both would be good, mate that with a set of 4:10 rear end gears and it would be best. Go back to rack and pinion steering as well.

I've owned many cars and trucks over the years, most of them Ford products. One of my favorites was the 1977 Marquis Brougham 2 door with two-tone paint (Lt. and Dark Jade Green, dark roof and hood, light on the sides and trunk lid). I put chrome spoke wheels on that car and it was beautiful. I so miss a nice, larger, rear wheel drive two door car...Update the Marguis and come out wth a two door and I'm there. Maybe the size of a late 70's Mercury Cougar or Ford Elite. Remember those? "At the sign of the cat"

I have a 2004 MONTEREY AND 2006 Freestar SEL. Both are excellent automobiles. What I haver yet to understand is why FOMOCO did not do a better job in marketing them.

I want a new Monterey and would like to recommned you make one using the Taurus X or new Flex platform.

I also own a mint condition 1997 Mark VIII. You should never market a Lincoln without a V-8 engine. I am looking forward the new MKS, though.

Here's a suggestion to all of Ford-L/M: Drop the Crown Vic and bring out the Interceptor and appeal to a different consumer for full-size RWD. KEEP the Grand marquis but drop the "Grand" and just call it Marquis. Update the design but build it for the more traditional RWD consumer. Let Merc take over the police fleet sales and car service sales with the new Marquis and dont mess the Intercpetor up by fleeting it. Build the Marquis nice enough so it can get Town Car customers as well because you need to drop that old bag if you want Lincoln to survive....and Bring out the MKR for Lincoln. How do you do it? One new RWD platform for all (perhaps a stretched Mustang platform or one from Ford of Europe?) Make the MKR the most sophisticated chassis, take it down a notch for the Marquis/TC type car and let Ford use it with a more muscular approach....GET MOVIN' FORD...if you MAKE THEM, they will come!
I now have a 04 grand Marquise and its a great roomly and comforable car for trips, It gets great gas mileage for it size It does need to be updated but not to the point where it looks like the rest of the cars out there today but a american RWD sedan that is roomly for a family. By the way I have always thought the 88 thru91 Grand Maquis were the best looking ones you have ever made. If I could find one In great shape I would buy it. I will alway be a ford product person and right now I own the 04 Gr marquis a 05 Escape and a 350 superduty lariat 04. Keep up the Good work.

I have a 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis LS on order. I can't wait to get it, but I have to wait 8-12 weeks for it. I love this car a lot more than all the ones I checked out at the Seattle Car Show. Strange that at this site it shows a Grand Marquis at a show, but the Seattle show did not have one there. also, this site shows one in a color that does not exist for this car. There is no dark gray for the 2008 model, so I don't know where this dark gray one on this site came from..

Well, i agree that the Grand Marquis is Americas sedan from a longevity point of view. As an owner of one, i can say that the car is a living piece of automotive history. It is the longest running platform with minimal changes to my knowlege. That being the Panther platform so no the Suburban does not count. The 4.6 is one of the most reliable motors ever made with the exception of the intake manifolds from 98-02. I would like to see the return of the Marauder in a new form with competitive horsepower to run with the Charger/Magnum series. It must be marketed though. Heavy TV and newspaper ads. People must know it exsists. I think the cars exterior has been the best ever over the last few years. The interior always seemed dated and recycled. I think the car handles fine and accelerated fine. I never have been caught lagging in any traffic and can keep up with any traffic flow. And let the automakers know that deep well trunks are never a bad thing over shallow ones.

A more powerful 4.6 and a new 6 speed should bring the vehicle into the 21st century as well as a new, stiffer, safer unibody platform. Hydroformed front sub frame rails should be good enough for police use off of the new platform as well. So a unibody with safety cage and sub front frame rails should be a safety winner. The car should have a shorter front end but slightly wider stance and fold down rear seats. All wheel drive should be optional for us winter drivers for safety in all conditions. HID headlamps, and an all LED lighting package including turn signals should be offered. No one has gone all LED. Make it an industry first. Mood lighting and the most supportive and comfortable seats in its class should be part of this package. Give it the wheelbase of the current Town Car L. That way it has ample rear legroom.

Seventeen inch standard wheels and tires with optional eighteens on top end models, and nineteen inch on the Maurader varient. Marauder should have a supercharged 4.6 or a supercharged 5.4. Perhaps a Maurader SVT for the 5.4. Making the 500 horse as seen in the Shelby Mustang. Now that would be a car any automotive fan could love.

I think the Grand Marquis is a wel built vehicle. I do believe however that if you wish to continue to sell the vehicle that you need to reinvest in it from a STYLING PERSPECTIVE.

I'm only going to buy this car so many times and if it never changes you are impacting my decision making negatively. I would suspect the original framing and R & D are long since paid for and so now cosmetically you should be able to modernize this vehicle quite easily and inexpensively. . . So why don't you do it?

I remember seeing a great concept shot of a large two door convertible on this platform. It looked great! Take a look around at the competition for design cues, stick with the RWD & 4drs but perk it up ot reflect today's car look, don't be cheap. . .Ford has alot of good thingd happening vehicle wise so spread out your new found technology a little to this faithful product.

My family switched to Ford with the 1986 Grand Marquis after GM abandoned rear drive vehicles. This car is still on the road with 283,000 on the odometer. It never needed major repairs; still has the same engine, same transmission. The car is not garaged and sits out in the sun. Ford products last forever. When it came time to purchase a new vehicle, I chose the Mercury Marauder. Same story, no problems, excellent quality. But with this car, I get all the performance I could want. I suggest that Ford makes a new Marauder when the Interceptor is launched.

I have either driven a Ford or Lincoln / Mercury, but had three Marquis plus the BIG station wagon. The Marquis have always been an excellent car and value for the money and no one can beat it. Only one problem ...exterior design. They will design a Marquis, and you can bet the exterior will remain in production for at least 10+ years. The current to previous Marquis have only changed in grill, tail lights, one new color, and new and upgraded accessories. Granted it's still a best seller / value for the money, but again it's " your fathers car " . I would have purchased a new Marquis but again it's the same previous design. Mercury designers need to get aggressive " as Lincoln " and bring out a compleatly new Marquis for 08 /09/10. If not it will be discontinued and will fall to the way side. The Marquis has always been the bread and butter of the Mercury lineup. I would hate to see anything happen to it now. Go Mercury !!

This is the simple truth. I have loggedf over one and a half million miles on Grand Marquis. For just one short interim I had a Crown Victoria, also a nice vehicle for me.

In all of thos miles, I had one transmission replaced.....I was following a construction vehicle...an concrete block fell off and ripped a gash in my transmission casing...that's the extent of what one would call major repairs. In the winter I have studded tires all the way around, live in an area that gets beaucoup amounts of snow and I'm happy to say I feel confident when I leave my home in my Grand Marquis.

My complaint....I swear my cars have the absolute lousiest headlights on the planet.

No other complaints....thanks for reading.

Anyone looking for a hassle free, turn key automobile with incredibly strong body on frame construction should take a Mercury Grand Marquis for a test drive.

I am a proud owner of a '95 Grand Marquis LS. The 4.6L engine which is still offered in todays new Mercury Marquis' works so well with the stock transmission... it is amazing. I have over 149,000 miles on it, and it runs like new.

The only reason why I think I would need to go buy a new one is if something terrible happened to my current Marquis, like a tree falling down on it or something.

Anyone buying a new Marquis today and follows the recommended maintenance schedule will most likely be able to say the same thing I am saying on this post, but not anytime soon, more likely 10 - 12 years from now.

After all, I'll bet that of all of us writing in these little captions, 90% of us are true, loyal and honest Ford customers! The other 10% are the curious ones waiting and watching to see if they will trade in their Chrysler 300 or even their Toyota Camry! Hmmmmm?
If you stop making this vehicle we might have to put my father in a retirement home...
Update the styling and give it a little more sport and I might consider it myself, don't underestimate the number of 20 somethings who can appreciate a large luxury sedan. If any of the major world automakers had the presence of mind to develop a large luxury sedan with impressive performance numbers and no holds-barr styling I would bet a fair chunk on the youth market response. I was just talking about the new cadillac STS with my friends, the consensus was its too small to be a good luxury car and too weak to be a good performance sedan. V series over in GM world seems like an afterthought, with poor reliabilty to boot. My advice to American automakers: stop trying to please everyone with your committee designs, just put out your concept cars "AS-IS" for once and don't be afraid to give large sedans some sport and flare. Until then I'll stick to Lexus.

I'm 21 and I'm on my third full sized ford car these are the best cars on the road. I currently have a 2000 Grand Marquis and just tested a 2007 Grand Marquis GS a nice car indeed. Compared to my 2000 there is a little bit lower quality in the doors and where the sunvisors are. The key felt a little difficult to put in the ignition. I guess it needs to "break in" after so many inserts and removals. Other then this I really liked the car alot, it desperately needs an update. It also needs more power for competition reasons. Personally I felt the 224HP was decent. The vehicle needs to be advertised. When I'm done with my model I will purchase another. This vehicle is last of the once common according to research I've seen the sales on this vehicle and they are getting smaller and smaller. I thank Ford EVERY year for continuing the production of this model.

more power and new design would do it good something special about the grand marquis from 88-91? the years before everything went all aerodynamic and bland. also the interior from the cars from the 90's are bland as well I'm just happy to see that most manufacturers are changing there way and I hope that those changes come to the grand marquis as well. that said I still think that US cars were meant to be big sedans with rear wheel drive and big V8 in front that what US manufacturers are good at. so do more of what your good at and forget the big SUV's try something called a station wagon (call it what you will) I think it might catch on again. I personally think thats all a big SUV is a station wagon on a truck frame with a higher roof line so just drop it on on a crown vic frame and lower the roof lgn and give it some style!
