Plain and simple: If Ford is “committed” to the small car segment, BRING BACK THE FOCUS WAGON! If they can build the Ford Mondeo Titanium (a Focus wagon) overseas in the United Kingdom, they can build the U.S. version here.

I’ve visited many Ford Focus oriented sites, some sponsored by Ford (like this) some not. The overwhelming cry I keep hearing over and over is a request to bring back the Focus Wagon, and I can’t agree more. I have a 2002 Focus SE wagon with 140,000 trouble-free miles on it. I have extremely satisfied with it, and being a former Japanese automobile owner for 20 years, had some trepidation about going back to Ford, but I am delighted with it’s handling, functionality and reliability. It was the only vehicle available that I could find that offered good cargo space and gas mileage and a reasonable price. All others were about double the price (Subaru, Saab, Volvo, VW etc.) or too small (Mazda 3, Totota Matrix etc.). I have heard that this model was discontinued because it only represented 8% of total Focus sales. That was back on 2005/2006 when these figures were tabulated…. there’s been a very large climate change since then!!!! More and more people are waking up to the fact that the gas situation is only going to get worse and are moving from SUV’s and Minivan’s to something more efficient… Toyota Prius sales are through the roof, can’t keep ‘em in stock and SUV sales are dogging. The Focus Wagon would be extremely well positioned to take advantage of this if it was still available. Ford should rethink this decision; the need to react and take advantage of this situation while they can. It won’t take long for more efficient wagon’s to come back into popularity again and someone’s going to make a bundle. I’m going to be replacing my wagon in another year or so, and was hoping it was going to be with another Focus wagon, but it looks like I’ll have to go somewhere other than Ford, which is a real shame.

what happened to the Hatchback? I love my ZX3, most usefull car I have ever owned. I can haul more cargo in my Focus than my friends can in their full size cars.

While I have driven the Focus, I have also had the pleasure of driving another wonderful Ford vehicle that I believe will make a difference in our changing economy - The Ford Ka! I’ve relatives in Mexico, and we tooled in a Ka all around Monterrey, which is very challenging for any car. I loved it! I come from a Ford-lovin’ family, and with the exception of a (very) used Pontiac Grand Am, everything we’ve owned has been a Ford. My Ford Ranger is nearing the 200,000 mark, and I’ve only had to replace the fluids, filters, tires, and an alternator. I’d love to add a Ford Ka to the family, especially since Mom’s retired and doesn’t need to drive around in her F-150 SC. B’sides, the Ka is “cuter” than the Focus.

I have owned Ford products for my primary vehicles all of my life, with only a few exceptions. I own a 2005 Focus SES which handles very well, but I wanted a manual transmission and a little more power. I also needed another car since my daughter was starting college and I was planning on giving her the SES. I was all set to buy a 2008 Focus ST, but found out it is no longer made. I test drove a 2008 Focus SES and was VERY disappointed by the poor handling compared to my 2005 SES. I looked seriously at other makes, but with the end of the model year and high demand for better mpg, they were hard to find. I finally found a very low mileage 2005 Focus ST and bought it. Other than the black color, I am very satisfied with this car. It is what I wanted to buy as a new 2008 that Ford no longer makes. I considered a Fusion with a 2.3 manual transmission and the handling package (appearance package), but was disappointed by the performance. Ford also makes it very difficult to get a manual transmission in a Fusion or Mustang, even though they are available. The local dealers said I would have to order it to be able to get a manual transmission with the other options I wanted. So much for incentives for taking delivery from dealer inventory. I have been looking at the Ford vehicles for a while and concerned that the performance effort is going only to the Mustang. Unless Ford wakes up and starts building fun to drive cars for the US market that still get good gas mileage (like the Focus ST), they will continue to lose market share in this area. They build them for other parts of the world, but say the US market does not want them and the US market does not want manual transmissions. I have always preferred manual transmissions since before I purchased my first new vehicle in 1974 (Comet GT), and continue to prefer them. I will likely buy something other than Ford for my next vehicle since I do not see them moving in this direction. So much for being a loyal Ford owner……. By the way, I have tried to voice this opinion before, but Ford seems to continue to ignore it. If others agree, let them know and maybe, just maybe, they will start listening. However, they have a history of going in other directions. I guess our opinions just do not matter.

I have 6 thousand miles on my 08 coupe. Let me tell you it does everything I need. I traded off an Expedition with 200 thousand miles on it. I was afraid I would not be able to adjust to the small car. I am completely happy. I get 41 mpg on the highway and I am an aggressive driver. It is much better than the Corrolla I test drove. It is more comfortable and the interior is laid out better.

Why is there no longer a wagon model?

Scrap the EDGE and the FLEX keep the FOCUS WAGON, how many times do the suits at Ford need to hear this, DUH ?!!!!!

This redesign made the Focus look like all the other 4 door sedans. No longer unique or edgy - but boring. I am the happy owner of a 2004 SVT Focus, Euro edition, 3dr hatchback. It is a great car with excellent handling and a good looks. Unfortunately Ford did not know what a good thing they had and did not know how to properly market it (due to the new Mustang and disestablishment of SVTOA?). I’m glad Ford will be using the European-designed focus for the next US version. But the BIG question is, will the US finally get the Focus RS? Hopefully the new SVTOA can make this happen (even if rebadged as a SVT). If so, sign me up for one. To hell with the price of gas, I’ll take the European performance and handling. Southern CA has enough twisty roads to offset the pain of freeway driving. Ford should also make a Fiesta RS for the US domestic market.

Where is the Ford competitor to the Honda Fit / Chevy Aveo category? Ford has no vehicle to compete in the 5 door mini mini van segment. How dumb.

Instead of sepnding the last few years developing a car to compete in this very popular and highly functional segment, Ford is poised to bring us….the Flex - another 20 something MPG fuel gulper. Not so bright Ford. No wonder you are going out of business.

I purchased a 2004 Focus ZTW wagon new. It now has 60,000 miles on it, and I’ve been very pleased.

I’m a baby boomer, kids all grown and gone, so I don’t need a lot of passenger space. However, I do haul a lot of bulky (but not heavy) stuff, so the wagon — with back seats pretty much permanently folded down — is like a very high MPG SUV. I love it, and have recommended it to anyone who’ll listen.

Unfortunately, when the time comes to replace it, I guess I won’t be buying a Ford. You see, I need a compact wagon, and if you’re not making one, I guess I’ll have to look at a Japanese or Koean make.

Too bad. But I guess that’s the kind of thinking that had brought the U.S. auto industry to where it is.

I have an 05 ST. Its a fun little car. It runs great, its practical and I could afford 3 of them. I am glad I got it. But, I would trade it for an ST like what you sell in Europe tomorrow. I’m not interested in the rocket-boy fins and such, just a solid car that is fun to drive. Thanks

Ford does not stand behind its gas mileage. We have a 2008 Ford Focus and it only gets 28 MPG.

When I spoke to Ford, (many times), they would not do anything about it.

I currently own a 2001 Ford Focus Wagon and am looking to replace it in the near future. I am so disappointed that you no longer offer a Focus Wagon. People want a small multi use vehicle that is comfortable and gets good fuel economy. That is exactly what th Focus Wagon is(was). Many baby boomers (like me) will be looking for and purchasing small wagons to meet our multi use needs. Ford needs to wake up and make vehicles people want and need!

I bought a 2008 Focus 2 door 5-speed in May. What a great little car. I also own 2 Ford trucks and a 67 fastback Mustang. The Focus is a great addition to my Ford collection. Way to go Ford!!

Thank you Ford for spending millions of dollars to add new wheels, new trunk, and a useless piece of chrome trim to the side. Why not take some cues from Ford of Europe and make something that has performance/appeal and economy wrapped up into one. Their gas is about $8 a gallon so there is no excuse for this heap.

We are a 2 car Ford family. We still hold on to our ‘01 Sable wagon and will not give it up until someone offers us something equally as good on gas. With the DOHC 6 engine we average 28 mpg (30 hwy) with all the room we need to haul extra gear. When we looked into the 08 Focus Wagon we were told it was discontinued. What is Ford thinking? Who wants SUVs or Vans now that gas has gone through the roof? Get with it Ford! If you can’t bring back full size wagons, at least offer the Focus or you will have lost a long standing customer!

i am on my second focus. first was an 01 ZX3, traded it at 12,000 miles to upgrade to a SVT ZX3 I love it! it is the best car I have owned! it is so stylish thats what sold me and i believe what made it the best selling car in the world for many years. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING with this design? it sucks! And what about a hybrid? You guys going to wait untill it is too late for that technology? I guess you were too busy making $ on the Gas Guzler SUV models. I love Ford and would like to see you guys survive and keep american jobs filled at your plants. GET WITH THE PROGRAM. Please dont tell me the new FIESTA model is going to be a reinterpritation of the ZX3! Too much stigma attatched to that name. You better rethink that one! Or it will be a disaster TOO! I know sales of the 08 focus are way short. It is a looser! Even the convertable failed, whats up with that? that was the only model I liked and was excited to see. But the coup, UUUUUUGLY! Hi just wanted to say I have an 07 focus sedan street apperance package and I love the car and it does good on gas I got it instead of an 08 focus because I cant stand that sorry fender badge on them, come on ford it looks like crap and why no st or svt wake up get with it or give up , its 08 not 1977 get some new Ideas quit messing with something good get rid of cheep plastic fender badges.

Could you put one on a boat for me? I expect the steering wheel is on the wrong side, but I can deal with that. I hear the focus 2 can go sideways down one-way streets at an unlawful altitude, so it doesn’t matter what side the wheel is on.

I like the new focus. I own two civics and we need another small car. I had not considered the Focus but decided to check out the new 2008 model. Drove it and love it. Class leader in gas mileage, interior is great with ambient lighting and cool blue ice backlight gauges, great ride and much quieter than the civic. The engine is smooth and the automatic works great. I really enjoyed it. And this weekend we are going to get one.

I have a ford focus 04′ svt and love it. What ford needs to do is beef the engine on the new focus 08′ and make a svt version. I would go buy one very quickly, also to comment on all those mad about the design i agree and disagree. UPs Downs yes but overall nice car smooth drive, ford does need to come with hybrid i agree. Also need to bring hatchbacks back also just my opinion.

My 2007 Ford Focus Hatchback is the 3 Focus Hatchback I’ve had. I love the car … it’s roomy, easy to drive, small enough for parking in NYC, great gas mileage. So when my dealer called to tell me about the 2008, I was thrilled to hear about the new features the car had but terribly disappointed Ford had discontinued the hatchback. I never liked the sedan now will I ever consider buying one. What Ford should have done was make a hybrid hatchback version to compete with the Yaris. I guess I’ll keep my 2007 till the lease is up, then look at the other hatchbacks out there.

My Focus was a piece of junk!! I traded it for an 8 cylinder Explorer, which I love!! I don’t care about the gas mileage, I care about durability and power. I would never go back to a 4 or 6 cylinder wind up toy!! We don’t need more tiny cars. Bring back the 70s!!

What happened to the SVT/ST? My ‘05 ST gets great gas mileage and as a former owner of Barracudas, Road Runners, Probes, etc. I believe it offers “more fun per dollar” than any other car I’ve owned. You need to bring it back.

That chrome thing on the front fender is atrocious. Get rid of it. That alone is enough to send me to Mazda.

Where’s the hybrid? C’mon.

I drove my 2008 Focus from Mexico to the US, and in Mexico thank God Ford brought the European Focus. I have to say that it is much much muchhh better than the american one. It is a shame that Ford does not care about the small car market. The interiors in my Focus are just way more refined than the ones in the American. I have had at least 3 persons asking me what kind of Focus is it, and they have been disappointed when I’ve told them that they can only buy it in Mexico. I hope Ford gets serious about compact cars in the US because gas prices are sky-rocketing!

Updating the exterior while continuing the outdated chassis was bad enough, but this exterior completely loses the Focus brand identity and look. Someone on a Focus discussion board called it “uglified.”

I’m not sure you enhanced the design of my very favorite brand. I know that having the experience of the car may change my mind, but unfortunately I can’t even afford the currently available Focus, the one that I really dream of.

The 2008 Focus lacks luster!! it looks horrible!!!! I am 19 years old and i even think this car has a terrible looking body!!!

The Focus is a nice care, but I was horrified to get home with my new car and find that it no longer comes equipped with a spare tire–especially considering that no one at the dealership told me! Can someone please tell me where I can get a Spare Tire for my new 2008 Focus SE as–according to my dealer–Ford doesn’t have an option available to order one?

Well, my factory 08 SES focus finaly arived and can you believe it? someone at the factory messed up and put a spair tire and jack in the trunk instead of that inflator kit! dont snich on me now!

I too just bought a 2008 Focus. No spare tire. Some models had a spare, it was a $60 option. I went to local junk yard and got a temp spare for $10. It was new, never used, I took it out of the trunk of a wrecked 2006 Focus. It fits the 2008 and fits in the trunk space.
Don’t forget to get a jack and lug wrench too. Got those at the junk yard for another $5. Throw away that stupid fix-a-flat that comes with the car ….

I would also like a spare tire in my 2008 Focus! If you find one let me know where I can get one too! The inflater kit just wont patch a half dollar sized hole!, Also, I recommend buying a new extra tire for the SES model as I have found out the size isn’t a common one. I priced the tire Locally here and its just under $100.00. Another thing that bothers me is the book states that after you use the factory inflater kit they have to replace the pressure sensor (HOW MUCH WILL THAT COST?)

boy get that European Focus over here ASAP…….this thing is a “Franken-Focus”……its so obvious that Ford raided several parts bins and came-up with this mutt. Reminds me of the ol ZX-2 in the dying days of the Escort. Just a hodge podge of left-overs served up to clear out old inventory…seriousl guys I know you can do better……..I will say it looks somewhat better in real-life than in photos…

I recently bought a new coupe and I must say that I absolutely love it. Now I know it’s not the best car in the world but I must say for the money it a wonderful car. It’s good on gas, handles like a dream, has plenty of pep, and the Sync system is absolutely out of this world! But I also have to say that there is plenty of room for improvement. Four wheel disc breaks is a must, plus a few extra ponies under the hood would be nice. I, as much as any one, would much rather have the Euro Focus but it seems we are going to have to wait a few more years before we all can get our hands on one. In the mean time though, this little car isn’t too bad. Thumbs up Ford!

It seems to me also a poor call to discontinue the hatch and wagon but the answer for doing so is most likely sales figures and not wanting to hurt the bottom end of more profitable or future product. The 3 door was primarily sold to young people who aren’t yet earning much income. Hard market in which to be profitable. The wagon I don’t know. Perhaps that small SUVs are available for not much more. As for bringing over cars from the UK, forget it. There small doesn’t as much mean budget as it does here. Look at the Ford UK website and see that a 3 door Focus prices start at roughly 15,000 pounds. Thats over 29,000 dollars at todays exchange rate. It probably is a much better car than the US offering but the British are seemingly willing to pay for the additional engineering. Granted there are differences in economies to consider and I’m not saying the Focus would cost double what it does now but what if it were half again as expensive? Who here would now pay that?

I have a 2005 Focus ZX5 Hatchback and love it. I was shocked to find out that Ford has discontinued making the hatchback. In 2010 I was planning on purchasing a newer model hatchback. Not sure what I will do now. Please bring back the hatchback. After reading all the comments on the European Focus I went and checked it out. It is so much better than what is offered here in the US.

I love my 2008 focus.  It has ample power, great handling and has a really good sound system.  Its comfortable to drive and doesn’t have a great deal of road noise.  Very roomy and very functional control systems.  I’m averaging 32 mpg and do better if we stay out of town.  My son drives it to school and all his friends like it.  So if you don’t like it, you haven’t driven it.  Give it a shot before you slam it.  If I could afford another one I’d buy it to replace my 96 Mazda. Good job Ford.

I thought Ford should have brought the Focus out in a Hybrid model, would have sold tons of them. Wish you guys would stop dragging your feet and get some of those models out that are shown at the shows, by the time they show up at the Dealerships the train will have already left the station. If were going to be leaders in sales we have to be leaders in futuristic models….

Amen Larry! I wish they would finally get around to putting the hybrid Fusion out that they promised YEARS ago. I love my 2002 Focus, but I want my next car to get 70 mpg, not 30. If Ford can’t provide, I will be forced to look elsewhere… And that is hard to say, considering my family has been buying Ford exclusively for the last 25 years.

I love my focus an 05 and the 03 before that, both hatchbacks. now, as i am ready to buy another, i am forced away from Ford because of there idiot decision to get rid of the hatchback. i was in Italy last fall where there are great Ford’s every where. i don’t get it. I do start to understand why Ford struggles so much financially….give me a break!!

I agree with the good majority the Hatchback (3-door especially) should have never been dropped. And the European Focus >>>>>>>>>> than the American Focus. I’m sorry but the ST is infinitely better than any Focus I have ever seen (including the SVT). If you guys can bring us the new Fiesta, and the what will hopefully be Fusion-Mondeo inspired cars you can easily bring us the European Focus. Diesel if possible would also be appreciated.

Looking at the new American Focus, one can truly wonder what in the world happened in the Ford HQ (again)? Why would anyone ruined the design of a such good selling car. Just glancing over at the other side of the pond to compare the two Focuses, render the US version highly impotent in terms of sportiness and refinement. And where is the hatch?
What about the interior as well. Such a static to the point of boredom design language has been used. No one needs a scaled down “fivehundred” or “taurus”, simply to fill the segment market. No more excitement, says Ford! Luckily there is a glimpse of hope in the forthcoming Fiesta!
Just one final point, it is not the lack of highly capable designers we suffer, it’s the clueless, bean counting and incompetent managers and CEO’s ruining the American auto industry!

To make the Focus a respected machine within the tuner world you must have a sporty edition come out. IF not now. 2011 MUST MARK a complete change in the Focus. The car should and will undoubtly be moved up-market to be a small midsize performace hatchback/coupe/sedan. PLEASE FORD! WE WANT OUR HOT HATCHES IN AMERICA. Give us a car that can out handle, out run in a straight line and completely out-do ALL contenders in 2011/2012. THE FOCUS NEEDS A PERFORMANCE RENAISSANCE! Us young guys do not always want a Mustang. Give us a Focus that can go to toe to toe with the Mustang (GT or SVT) and be respected by the enthusiansts!!! WHAT HAPPENED TO SVT, ST and the ZX3???

I totally agree with your comments. First it was the demise of the SVT focus. That was a hot car and well respected. Now they do away with the hatchback. I am a long time Ford supporter, but they just don’t get it, no matter how many changes in CEOs they make. They don’t even have to try to become labeled a stoggy, boring car company…..it seems to come naturally.

Since Mexico of all places gets the new focus design from Europe I had to find a used Focus SVT. Ill still wait for a hot hatch from Ford but meanwhile Ill enjoy what once was… Come on Ford.

My wife traded in a Santa Fe witch is a small suv for a 2008 Focus. She loves it. I haven’t gotten a chance to drive it but it has more passenger sitting room than the suv she had with a large trunk and gets about 12 more miles to the gallon of gas , I was surprised. The sync is very cool .

Why isn’t there a focus hybrid? I have a long commute and don’t want to deal with a stick shift in bumper to bumper traffic. To get the good gas mileage that I want I have been considering going with the prius but don’t want to leave ford.

Wake up Ford and listen to your customers! Create what they want, not something you think they’re going to like. You didn’t do to bad on the new Focus, but you really need to work on it still. Maybe make your should create a hybrid version version of it. Also bring back the wagon and hatchback.

Finally on the right track, Ford Motor! It’s about time Ford came out with a truly stylish car - the Verve. I absolutely love it! I would buy one yesterday. I think the Euro Mondeo would also do well here and often wondered why this car was never made available in the U.S.

When is Ford going to wake up and offer the Euro Focus and Mondeo to North America and where did they get the idea that hatchbacks don’t sell? My 2006 Focus ZX5 lease is up this month and I’m replacing it w/ a 2004 Pontiac Vibe. Maybe I’ll come back to Ford in a few years if/when the European designs come over.

Bring us the European Focus to the states. I own a ZX3 and have driven the European Focus and I love them. We need the real Focus not a remade Escort coupe.
