At the Detroit Auto Show this week, the 2007 Mercury Montego is looking comfortable alongside its stable-mates on the stand.

Mercury introduced its innovative Montego sedan two years ago during Ford Motor Company’s “Year of the Car” in 2005. The 2007 Mercury Montego full-size sedan continues to offer responsive handling, modern performance and fuel economy — up to 29 miles per gallon highway on front-wheel drive models.

The signature waterfall grille, strategic use of contrasting metallic surfaces such as satin aluminum and chrome, distinctive taillights and unique tailoring continue the distinctive automotive design vision that Edsel Ford set for Mercury some 65 years ago.

This is a nice car for a Ford. I still don't see how they can be priced so high when they offer so little. They must undercut the competition to make a difference. The Saturn Aura puts this car to shame.

I bought the first Montego that hit my dealer's lot. Since then, I've put nearly 60,000 miles on it, and have never been happier. It has been remarkably reliable, with superb gas mileage for a car its size. I've heard that MPG estimates are supposed to shrink this year because of some new formula. Well, if my experience is any gauge, Montego's 21 city/29 highway won't move at all. That's pretty darn close to what I'm getting. I've freaked out owners of those well-known import brands at the gas pump when I tell them I can get nearly 500 miles on a single tank!

After seeing images of the '08 Five Hundred, I can't wait to see what the next-generation Montego has in store for us!
