I too was very disappointed to find that the Wagon had been discontinued. My 2003 has 105,000 miles on it and is still on the road. I needed something more reliable as my wagon was getting a little long in the tooth and was set to buy another just like it but could not. Ended up buying a Subaru Forester. It cost more but was the only suitable replacement. Shame on you Ford for loosing an American sale.

With huge losses just posted, I am hoping that Ford will reconsider manufacturing the Ford Focus Wagon. I owned two Escort wagons and now have a 2003 Focus Wagon. I was extremely disappointed to learn that this model has been discontinued. I would buy another Focus wagon in a heartbeat. Unless something changes, I will no longer be a Ford customer in the future.

I just bought an '08 Focus and love it! The blue tooth and voice sync make it so easy for people like me who have to drive a great deal for their job and take calls while on the road. I got features in this car for a mere 16k that would have been 5 or 6k more in an import. Well done, Ford!

I waited for my ZX5 to come on the market. Four doors plus a hatch makes it the perfect vehicle for me to lug my often cumbersome load of work and play stuff around in. The '08 Focus' deck is way too narrow for me to even fit my small amp in. The two-door is a complete impossibility for me, unlike the 2000-2007 ZX3. After killing practicallity, Ford continues ruining a good car by giving it the look of an out-dated Saturn Ion, adding those revolting do-nothing chrome "louvers" on the front fenders and then assumes an economy car buyer will overlook the exterior for fancy (and quickly outdated) Sync technology inside.

Here's a tip for the top brass at FoMoCo. Stop telling me what I want and listen to what I want. My first car was an '89 Mustang LX. Simple, fun, surprisingly practical, reliable and tough. My next vehicle was a '95 F150. Good lugger and reliable too. As I mentioned my current car is a ZX5 Focus which has been the best of the bunch. Good on gas, fun to drive, roomy and accessible, reliable and, yes, tough. I drive through some real nasty stuff quite often so I should know. I AM a loyal customer, but when the company that NEEDS people like me more than ever decides to inexplicably cut good products out of their line-ups in exchange for trendy, gaudy, overly-complex garbage, it's like a kick in the teeth.

I will be doing my best to maintain my car with the hope that it'll last as long as possible. Should it need to be replaced, I hope it comes at a time when Ford's attitude has changed and its North American customers have dealership access to European versions of the Focus in all it's trim and body options, including but not limited to the ZX3, ZX5, and the ZTW wagons. How Ford let these cars go when all of it's competitors have them in the showrooms right now is beyond me.

Add me to the list of people frustrated that Ford discontinued the Focus Wagon. In the Seattle area, Escort wagons were everywhere, and are still extremely common. Mine is getting long in the tooth, and I've been intending to replace it with a Focus. Guess I'll buy a used one, and Ford can continue to blame other people for their continuing to lose money.
I don't care that much about styling, I want a practical, efficient vehicle that I can haul camping gear, or kids, or just commute in, and there was absolute nothing on the market that came close to the Escort wagon. It was kind of like the VW Rabbit in that regard.
I've thought for quite a while that car companies are more interested in pursuing an imaginary market with vehicles that mirror each other as closely as possible, so you can't tell a Ford from a Honda from a Chevy, than in actually providing vehicles that people WANT.
Just look at Honda. Ford is trying to copy the honda civic. They see how well honda took off with the civic hatchback, then the focus hatchback came out years later. The civic went to coupe and sedan a couple years ago, now ford is copying it again. However, Ford has worse quality and do not care about upgrades such as Honda. However with Honda you have way more options, even limited slip differential on the Si, even though ford has the parts they do not sell them preinstalled in their vehicles. I have a Focus and wish I had bought the Honda civic, so many more options and better build quality. and to top it off Ford puts the cheap plastic chorme parts on their vehicles. Since they pretty much use the same parts, I would go with the Mazda 3, disc brakes all around, better quality interior, and better build quality, better hubs 5 bolt vs. 4. About the same price also. The ford focus became popular as it was a easy tuner car, however Ford messed that up late in 2005, now again it changes in 2008. it will change again in 2-3 years. Too many changes, not any good ones. Often the aftermarket has better quality parts such as wheels, shocks, struts, etc. But with the frequent changes the aftermarket does not see much profit, so they are decreasing parts production. Ford is trying to force the customer to get only parts and service from them. That is why the Maggunson Moss warranty Act was established. Manufactures like toyota and nissan, have performnace parts that if a authorized dealer installs them they do not void the warranty, and the includes superchargers and turbos. Ford does not even offer parts warranty on their performance parts, and even say some are not lega for street use. Shocks with pefromance handling, not street legal, get real. does not do anything to make it illegal. They just do not have confidence in their products sometimes.

I was going to price a Focus Wagon, and found you discontinued it. I am so disappointed. I had a 2003 Focus Wagon SE, but it was totaled in an accident when another motorist ran a red light. I walked away without a scratch, thanks to the safety design of the Focus Wagon. I replaced it with a Toyota Sienna in 2005. Now I was planning to get another Ford Focus Wagon. It was the only Wagon sold, that was big enough for me to place 2 size 400 (large) pet crates side by side, and still have room for grooming table and equipment to go to dog shows. Yet I got 35 mpg! These cross overs just do not get it, and are priced out of what I want to spend. Plus all that I've checked, are too narrow in the cargo area due to the wheel wells. The Focus Wagon should always have been marketed under a different name than the Focus. It was clearly in a class of its own. What fools you have in marketing for eliminating it, and replacing it with an over priced cross over.

What a SHAME Ford did two boneheaded things for 2008. ONE: ugly as sin redesign of the Focus for US customers. I much prefer the distinctive and stylish look of my 2001 Focus.

TWO: Not having the Focus Wagon sold here anymore. It was going to be my next car in fact, now I'll probably end up with a Subaru. Thanks Ford, nice customer service.

I just bought my Focus on 4/28/08 and I absolutely love it. When my old car crapped out, and I started looking for a reasonably priced vehicle with good fuel economy, I thought that I was going to be stuck with a Chevy Aveo, until I checked out this car. For all of you hatchback lovers out there...if you want to see a REALLY ugly car with no style, check out the Aveo hatchback. Now THAT'S ugly. I was thrilled to death to find that the Focus not only has some style, but it beats the Aveo on gas mileage as well. The Focus isn't designed to look like a sportscar or pretend to be something that it isn't. It's a good, solid, economy car, and the coupe is what I will be driving in lieu of the Mustang GT that I really covet, but can't afford the loan payments that I would have to make in order to gas it up.

Am currently in the market for a smaller SUV or wagon and was excited to see the new 2008 Focus Wagon until I learned it wasn't available in the U.S. I currently own a Ford and would have likely bought the Focus Wagon if available. Big mistake on Ford's part not to make the Eupopean models available in the U.S. especially in light of the economy and fuel prices going forward as it most likely would compete quite well.

I traded in a 05 elantra for the new 2008 focus three weeks ago and I'm still in love with it. I love the new look and 2.0 under the hood. My old ford had the ford 2.0 under the hood, I put over 100000 miles on that motor befor putting one nickle in it. 2.0 parts are everywhere and very cheep to buy. Good looks cheap parts, and better than stated gas milage works for me. The dealership was happy to sell me a elantra, but wouldn't give me anything trade in for a new elantra. Ford parts are everywhere cheap, try buying a new head for your korean car, you'll wished you bought a ford. I've driven a Ford lately, I liked it so much I bought it.

I traded in a 05 elantra for the new 2008 focus three weeks ago and I’m still in love with it. The dealership was happy to sell me a elantra, but wouldn’t give me anything trade in for a new elantra. Ford parts are everywhere cheap, try buying a new head for your korean car, you’ll wished you bought a ford. I’ve driven a Ford lately, I liked it so much I bought it.

I am sorry but I have to agree with most of the others on this site - the new Focus looks...like...I don't know - not a Focus. The Focus is an awesome car (in it's potential). I do feel bad for whoever controls what happens here in the States with the vehicle designs and whatnot but as everyone else says, you NEED to bring the Euro Focus builds to the States. I am highly jealous of our overseas brothers and sisters. My next car will be one of: Subaru Impreza WRX STi, MazdaSpeed 3, or Mitsubishi Lancer EVO unless you bring us something very comparable for a Focus build soon.
Again - you should spend considerable time at both FocusFanatics.com and FocalJet.com. There is where you will find first hand truthful information about consumers and your cars.
For all the bashing the redesigned Focus receives, I for one think it looks handsome, and this is coming from a guy that’s a huge Honda fan.

Bring back the Focus Wagon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have an 01 Focus Wagon that I have thought about replacing but with no compact wagon in the Ford line up, I will need to keep driving my 01 which is at 124,000 miles or look for somewhere else for a compact wagon. The focus wagon is one of the few compacts that I can place by bicycle inside without having to disassemble anything. The Escape is too short behind the front seat to fit my bike and I would prefer not to get an Edge which cost $6-15K more than a Focus would.

I have been hearing people say that the European Focus looks way better inside and out,so I found some pictures on the web. I don't get it,Ford? The european version will sell itself. It looks sporty and more fun to drive. I saw the American Focus at the LA autoshow and thought it was ok but boring compared to the euro Focus. I wouldn't buy an American Focus but I would buy a Euro Focus just on looks alone. Sorry,no sale.

I have haqd a drivers license since 1957. Since 1988 I have driven Ford products. The two cars that I enjoyed more than any of the cars that I have owned in the past fifty years were a Mercury Tracer Wagon and now my Ford Focus Wagon. Although I am not in the market for a new car at the present time I will probably not purchase a Ford the next time I buy a car. For the first time in my life I will probably buy a foreign car. If your idea is to have sporty cars such as the Focus for the young driver, I will be purchasing my next car from a manufacturer that is interested in selling cars to more mature drivers. I am afraid you have lost me. Bring the European Focus Wagon here and I will buy a Ford if it is available when I'm ready to buy my next car.

I'll tell you what !! I think my 2005 Focus SES ZX4 is better looking than the 2008. I notice to when I am driving it has rocket like capabilities !! The Focus models up until now have been awsome. I wonder if this 2008 with so much of a changed body style has as good performance as my 2001 had and my 2005 has now!? I don't think the 2008 looks that great however maybe its still of the same good performance.

I have a friend with a US 06 ST, the 2.3 is junk, been replaced several times and Ford keeps the engines for R& D purposes. The first one had a defective casting and the second one just quit, with no explanation from the Ford coverup team.. Ford has had numerous, unfixable problems with the ST's version of the 2.3, so they tweaked the 2.0 for another spec of HP and dumped the POS 2.3..... I was a Ford fanatic since age 10, but due to Ford's dealings in this situation and the way they treat their customers, I WILL NEVER GET ANOTHER FORD! NEVER! No matter what model it is. Ford's finanical troubles are showing strongly in the lack or product quality. Now I hope they are on their way out of business. Do not buy a Ford, especially a Focus with an engine that is in its first couple of years of production. Ford (ab)uses its customers by using them as their research team.
This is Focus shouldn't even be called a Focus, it has none of the qualities of the previous Foci we all love. Is this progression?...No 2.3 liter engine? No disc brakes? Come on its the year 2008. No hatchback? What in the world. You lost me right there. SVT can't even save this piece of crap. I love my 2002 ZX5 and I would have gotten a new Focus without second thoughts if it would have been as good as the 00-04. Have you guys ever heard of FocusFanatics.com or FocalJet.com? Seriously, listen to some freaking customer responses before you completely redesign a car. The sync is nice, but the side vents are uglyyyyy, I don't think this car is even a compact sedan..it just has a compact sedan engine. Please, for the love of America, get the Euro Focus (even if it would sell for $30,000) or atleast design something similar. Have you noticed the success its had? I truely feel bad for Ford, they don't seem to be getting anything right lately...Well off to Saturn for a hatchback Aura.

is not that the new american focus is ugly, is just not as attractive as it's rivals. mazda3, nissan sentra and honda civic are all better looking. i wish ford had brought us the european focus that has just been released in europe. maybe they could bring them over as the all new mercury tracer? that would be nice.

on the insides, i guess the new focus has a decent design. i like the aluminum finishes. my focus unfortunetely has the fake wood on the dashboard and door pannels... i wish it was the silver finish some of the focuses have.

overall, the price and equipments would have to be really nice in order to take my attention away from the sentra or mazda3. also, some nice features like black leather, funky colors like the first yellow the first focus had, and a nice tip tronic like shift would be nice to have as an option. it amazes me how ford always legs behind it's competitors when it comes to this kind of thing...

now in all seriousness? whose idea was it to discontinue the beautil hatchback and replace it with a two door coupe? good lord, if someone really wanted a coupe, at least make a coupe convertible. that's a good idea actually. make it in 3 and 5 door hatchbacks, 4 door sedans and wagons and a coupe cabriolet... that will get you some customers!

good luck!

FOR INDIVIDUALS: Work to bring the 2008 European designed Focus to the U.S.

GENERAL: In general, the recent European vehicle designs are more appealing. Almost all Ford designs have been disappointing to me over the last 15 or more years. The Edge is a nice surprise, the Verve is great and will be a boon for Ford (preferably without the chrome trim around the windows for a cleaner, sexier look). Mazda has done great things with the designs of the CX-7 and CX-9.

PARENTS/HOUSEHOLDS WITH KIDS: I know this is a stretch (but maybe Ford needs to continue stretching more in order to compete extremely well), I will buy the first hybrid 7-passenger vehicle sold by anyone as long as it is tuned more for fuel economy than for an extra power boost. I'd LOVE a hybrid CX-9 or a slightly longer Ford Edge Hybrid that could seat 7 and has noticeably improved mileage. Why should parents who care about how we impact our world buy a hybrid vehicle that gets about the same mileage as a nonhybrid version (like the Toyota Highlander hybrid)? Yuck. And a 7-seater allows us to invite along grandparents or our children's friends or a bike or two without resorting to a caravan of vehicles (what a logistical pain and a waste of fuel). Minivans are very functional for parents, and an efficient hybrid minivan or large hybrid crossover will sell hugely if it is in the market earlier than a lot of competitors.

Best wishes.

Just so this board can see it too...I think Ford needs to keep the hatchback and wagon Focus. I love my ZX3 and will go to another company if it is not going to be made in 2008. The 2 and 4 door Focus is not the same and I would never consider buying one. Looks like the 158 people on this board plus the 192 from the other Focus post will all be changing brands. I'm sure Ford's competors couldn't be happier to get 100's of young buyers to break any loyalty for Fords. So far it looks like Saturn's new car may be my best bet.

Ford in the past has made an excellent car. a car that destroyed its rivals in many aspects including handling. it was the svt focus. It even got #1 sports car for sometime with consumer reports. It looks really good also. Now looking at the new ford, I am afraid it lacks the magic held by the old car, the rally racing heritage is missing. why can't the this new focus look like the european version, which continues from the previous one. ford, heed to my advice, it can pay off in the long run! you have a racing history that shouldn't be lost. The old svt focus handled so well! where did it go!!!!

I like what you did with the 08 focus. I really have a dilemma in deciding to get a SES Sport coupe, or keep the 05. The car has allot of irresistibly cool features like the SYNC system, and the ambient lighting, but the biggest thing I like about the car is the Bold styling. I must applaud you for taking the car in a new design direction, the 05 was a very safe and boring design, while the 08 is a brand new attitude for the Focus. I cant wait to drive one.

For the new 2008 Escort there seems to be alot of talk about new styling, ipod/mp3 items, etc...... where can I find out what size engine, amount of horsepower, types of energy uses (gas, diesel, etc...) and miles per gallon?
Didn't Ford used to have a car that was supposed to get up to 80 mpg - even if it's 20 years old - I'll take one!
Maybe the engines burn cleaner, but what about the consumption of fuels and oil being burned?

I like the new 2008 Focus, but I love the Focus that's sold in Europe.
The new 2 door coupe is a great addition to the lineup, but eliminating the 3&5 door hatchbacks and wagon seems like a poor move.
I've been a Ford enthusiast for many years, and have owned many different types of Fords. 67 Fairlane, 75 Granada, 78 Thunderbird
79 Pinto, 88 Festiva, 91 Mustang LX 5.0, 92 Crown Victoria, 93 Taurus SHO and 99 Ranger XLT, but last year when it came time to
buy a new car, and I checked the Focus, what did I buy? I bought a 2006 Mazda 3 hatchback. Why? Because it's the closest I could get
to the Focus I wanted, the European Focus.

Ford, ask yourself, why is the Focus a benchmark vehicle around the world and in the United States it's a footnote? Because you failed
to inovate and update. Because you recognized that the Focus outside the United States was your bread and butter car, while here it was the Explorer and F Series truck.

I've read that you did this with the US Focus because nobody would pay what you need in order to sell the Euro Focus here in the us.
Well, that's not true, I paid much more for my Mazda than a "Comparable" Focus, because I could get the car I wanted. How many other sales did FoMoCo loose that way?

If your hardcore fans aren't buying Ford, do you think you're going to get conquest sales from Honda or Toyota?

Hello Ford! Yes, what were you people thinking....the Ford Focus Wagon is a great car! I have a 2005 SES model---it has been a great vehicle!
I am surprised that the wagon is no longer available and what a shame. I have owned a Ford product continuously since 1998...a Ranger, a 4x2 2001 F-150, a 4x4 2004 F-150, and now my Focus! Back in 1986, I owned an old Ford Fiesta and a 1979 Ford 4x4. Anyway, why change things when they are working. Please bring back the wagon...it is a great car for travel, doing a little hauling for my flower garden or carrying the dogs to the park! Looking forward to your response.

I understand there are underlying reasons that Ford continues to blow off customers inquiries on getting a U.S. type Focus performance model like UKs Turbo ST, but what I don't understand is the cutoff of The Foci's hatch design. That was a big seller to alot of youths. THis is very surprising because I had just read in the description that this new style was aimed at the younger audience! Will Ford ever publish reasons for not putting into production a performance model Focus to comete with the sTi and the Evo? Ford does great in WRC competition but doesn't have a commercial version to gain in sales what the other 2 make. Why the halt of hatchback production?

I've had a 2000 ZX3 and love it. It's got 161K miles on it with a Super Chip and I have never had a reason to do a tune-up or change the timing belt. Well I use Amsoil and have since I bought the car. It's Zetec engine is phenomenal and runs like a charm. I haven't had anything major done to the engine and have had only a few problems, recalls and all gets fixed with no problem. It's been a great car and I hope to hang on to it till its dead in the ground!

Ford has made several major mistakes including dropping the SVT versions, skipping out on the kind of migration we see with the Mustang lineup, dropping the Zetec engine, skipping out on designing in an EVO lineup, and dropping Ford Racing support and their aftermarket products for their Focus cars. We are all going to miss the Focus hatchback! This will be their biggest mistake. While the Coupe looks nice it's also not true to form - in fact, it looks more like a gadget moe-bile fitting for the digital age geek squad party crowd instead of the performance-minded driver. Honda wins, so does bimmer, Scion, and many others. Even the Dodge Coronado is looking decent to hot rod as is the Chevrolet Aveo XTREME!

I was looking forward to a hatchback evolution to arrive around 2008 or 2009, but I see now that isn't possible. Guess Ford has lost their focus on performance and will hang their success on Mustang - it's really all they got now. They certainly have lost my interest to be a repeat customer.
