Fiesta ECOnetic’s launch at the 2008 British Motor Show brings the title of the UK’s greenest car to Ford. Ford’s range of fuel efficient ECOnetic models are leading the company’s bid to cut UK CO2 emissions by over 80,000 tons. The eco motoring website, www.cleangreencars.co.uk, calculated the environmental effect if all Ford buyers switched to the lowest CO2 model in the current range without downsizing, and lists three Focus models in its top five small family cars based on eco friendly credentials. The 44 mpg Kuga, with 169g CO2, is named its cleanest, greenest 4×4 and the Mondeo ECOnetic is shortlisted as an eco large family car.

The new Ford Fiesta ECOnetic joins the Focus ECOnetic, which went on sale earlier this year and achieves CO2 emissions of 115g/km and fuel consumption of 65.6mpg (combined cycle). The Mondeo ECOnetic went on sale this month and offers large car comfort combined with fuel economy of over 53mpg and CO2 of 139g/km.

Roelant de Waard, Ford of Britain chairman and managing director, said: “In the first half of this year, we have seen a 38% rise in sales of all Fords achieving under 120g CO2. Thanks to Cleangreencars we’ve seen what could happen if this swing continues within each of our model ranges.”

Everybody don't get ahead of yourself the U.S. government is toooo controlling, we cant have this car in the U.S. because of the fact that it uses to much diesel fuel or something like that. do your research :)
bill says (November 29, 2008 at 6:05 am):
Ford needs to make this a top priority now in the U.S!
This would be instant success even with diesel cost 50% more. Electric is good as well. Can this car be set up?
erdist chavers says (October 8, 2008 at 6:04 pm):
How many cylinders does the Fiesta ECOnite have?

We want these cars in the US. Not everyone is excited about hybrid technology!! California is looking for cars that will run on Biodiesel!! Get with it Ford.
Larry S says (September 11, 2008 at 4:06 pm):
We need this technology in the US, and now! Not in 5 years! Ford needs to realize the North American market is VERY ready for this type of vehicle. And what an image booster it would be!

WHY CAN'T I BUY THIS CAR IN THE U.S.?!?! Diesel may cost more per gallon, but with this car's MPG rating, it's easy to see it would be cheaper to drive long term. These kind of diesels are the most painless way for America to transition from an internal combustion engine infrastructure to driving without fossil fuels. The right diesel can handle an SUV and kick the carbon footprint of a hybrid in the behind. And diesel made from non-food plant oil gets us out of the Middle East.
Ernest Gregg says (September 8, 2008 at 7:16 pm):
American innovation that is not for America?!

If it is difficult to sell Diesel in the U.S., market it.
People buy junk all of the time simply because it is marketed well. Automobile marketing is some of the best, and it cannot find a way to make Diesel sexy?!
Sell the mileage! Sell it on Bio-Diesel! Make the greenies go wild and THEY will sell it for you.
Tony Clifton says (September 6, 2008 at 1:50 pm):
Wow, this looks like a pretty neat car, but I wonder about it's safety. I drive a bigger car mainly because of safety concerns. Nevetheless, this car would probably sell well in California. I see so many Toyota Priuses and even hydrid/nat gas Honda Civics. I even see those tiny (& dangerous) Zip cars. Folks here spend a lot of time on the freeways and 74 mpg highway looks pretty good!

Good luck to Ford. Finally we are seeing some U.S. innovation in autos.
44 mpg by 2010 says (July 31, 2008 at 5:36 am):
Sorry, the Fiesta is TOO SMALL! So is the Focus.

And, the turbo diesel 44 mpg(US) combined cycle Mondeo is not expected in the US before about 2013 which puts about 3 years to late to be considered for this purchase cycle.

If the Mondeo (or something better ... AND ... SIGNIFICANTLY EVEN MORE "FUEL FRUGAL") is available about 2017 ... I'll think about looking at it!

I forgot to add ... it has to have an automatic transmission ... my wife can't handle a manual transmission. OH, say maybe an "Estate"?

At this point one MUST ASSUME petro fuels will be well over $14 per gallon by then!

Its' just a simple business decision ... life is that way some times.

Good luck to FORD and its' people!
