Amid the polished, shined, and pampered vehicles on display at the New York International Auto show is the crumpled Ford Taurus that was deliberately crashed into a 1 million pound wall at 35mph. Ford Taurus has been rated Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and Stephen Kozak, North American chief safety engineer for Ford Motor Company. Ford wants show goers to see that “not all cars are equal when it comes to safety. ” He and Ford want to show “why Taurus is the safest rated large sedan sold in America.”

The crash test was conducted at Ford’s testing facilities in Dearborn, Mich., prior to the show. Ford conducts hundreds of crash tests and thousands more simulated computer tests on a yearly basis for its vehicles.

Jim Farley, group vice president for Marketing and Communications for Ford, says that safety is one of the key messages he wants to get across to consumers. “Taurus is the safest vehicle in its segment—the best in its class,” he says. Farley continued that highlighting safety in this tangible way is part of customers seeing “the new face of Ford.”

Taurus models equipped with optional AdvanceTrac® electronic stability control have earned the highest available rating for rollover resistance from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Taurus earned five-star ratings from NHTSA for both driver and front passenger in a frontal crash test and five stars for both the driver and rear-seat passenger in a side impact crash test.

three ideas, probably stupid, who knows might get you thinking and improve on them...........how bout in the new taurus,a mini coffee maker in the dash....all youll have to do is have a gollon storage, thats interchanges with the market size,so loading fresh purified water would be simple, then make disspposible coffee disks, they slide into the maker for one use, then have a heater and pump, inexpensive, then have a cup designed with safety in mind, nonspil design, make the cup only fill just over half way for safety and non spil, second since your stuck in traffic, with your hot coffee, might as well have a mini printer that prints out stock quotes[of ford stock tripling in the next couple of years, and leading U.S. AND WORLD NEWS,...next on the front headlight lenses.the lenses get ruined by the sun in a couple of years, why not make the front, piece that the ligt shine through be removable,a quick couple of screws to replace just the front pof the unit, insted of replacing the whole unit and light, which is expensive and a hassle, make the front lenses 2 piece, easily to put fresh cover lenses on and new bulbs would be easier, just make a gasket so their rainproof,no added cost to the vehicle for this improvement.dont get cocky in a couple years ,when your number one.......P.S. ford should continue to make strides in large vehicle econmy,as thats what soccer moms really want...best of business to ford motor co.........

Coffee in a car, yeah that's just what this country needs. We allready have enough trouble with idiots in cell phones and hands free. I have one better, how about a micro wave so they can cook in it too, or how about a stove top burner in case they want to make chili on their way to work. Hell add a blender, a food processor, and why not a bathroom while your at it. Ford Needs to keep things simple, most of us just want a car that is reliable. The onyl thing I have to say about this car is WHERE IS THE SHO?

Why wont America import the FG Falcon from Australia?

after looking at new cars,i see a design trend that i think is flawed, even the japanese,is failing,on the dash of the next taurus, make the map info screen ,hide away ,when not in use,.having a big screen in the middle of the dash is unsightly, like having buck theet, all you have to do do is make the screen lower into the dash when not in use ,so the consumer can appreciiate his handsome interior.or make a clever cover that folds over the screen so the dash is handsome, and the info screen is conceled ,when not in use..........go double time iit,in36 months ford will be number 1.

My spouse and I purchased two Ford vehicles in 2007. We purchased a 2007 Ford Five Hundred AWD Limited, and a 2007 Ford Freestyle AWD Limited. Both were purchased under the Ford Certified Pre-Owned program. After owning them for almost a year, we are extremely pleased with both vehicles. The ride and engine are just fine. We both love the CVT transmission. Gas mileage is outstanding. The 500 provides 28 mpg on the highway, while the Freestyle provides 24 mpg on the highway. If the quality of the vehicle holds true for the next five years or 100,000 miles, we will certainly purchase Ford products again. Note to Ford's CEO Mr. Mullaly. Please continue to focus on quality. This is what people want. This is why I purchased these two vehicles. I read the Consumer Report on both vehicles and made a decision to support an American manufacturer. If you build it with quality and value, people will buy your vehicles. Good luck.
Criss says (August 12, 2008 at 2:04 am):
Better get a HO V8 in there if you want to compete with the lighter more powerful camery's and accords. But You'll have to make it get 30 MPG, good luck with that.
SteelCity1981 says (August 5, 2008 at 5:37 pm):
I can't wait until the 2011 Taurus. That Taurus will truly give the Camry and Accord a dog fight like the Taurus once did back in the first and second generation. If I were Toyota or Honda I would be concernd.
Larry H says (July 31, 2008 at 8:25 pm):
The lease is just about to end on our 2006 Ford 500. For a small V-6, the 3 liter CVT is surprisingly quick, but after 34000 miles, I'm still not used to the sound of the continuously variable transmission. Drove a 2008 Tarus, which I think is a poorly executed attempt to dress up the 500. The new 3.5 liter V-6 with 6 speed auto has lots of punch and is quieter with better gas mileage. Too bad the styling is so droll. The car is roomy and very comfortable. Don't like the two-tone interior though. Where are the 2009's? As it is, it looks like the 2009 Fusion with all the goodies will be my next lease. It handles more precisely and is comfortable, but I'll miss the room off the 500/Tarus.
Quant on a Sailboat, CFA says (June 11, 2008 at 3:25 am):
My first Tarus was a Hewlett Packard company car. Grew to love those cars. Very reliable, perfect biz-guy size, good economy trade-offs. One of 'em saved me in a freeway crash. SHO models were wonderful. Here's how wonderful -- I packaged out when Ms. Excuses came in. Negotiated a sweet deal for a mid level guy- some money, other useful goodies, and three years of grad school at 'a well known university.' Sounds nice? Forget it! The best part was a new 2002 Ford/Merc Sable (Tarus SW) 24V DOHC with all the goodies ordered "by mistake" for one of the new army of EVP's. Though I now live on a 47' sailboat and have not put on a suit since 2001, that car is the perfect mobile workhorse for a biz guy. TARUS IS A GREAT LINE!! Bring back the high-end motor and the Sable SW. I'll buy two!!
PS- I won my bet with the Fleet Manager... my car lasted longer than Ms. Excuses did, it actually delivers the goods, not one problem, and it's still running like a champ!

I cant wait to test drive this new model. I thought you guys discontinued the line?
I have a tarus from 2000, and still love it. It runs beautifully, and has had no major problems.
Michael Brown says (May 16, 2008 at 2:56 pm):
I ordered the New 2009 Taurus-Black on black, Limited, AWD model and love it. I got everything on it except the navigator system and the sync was available yet. I love it. It is truly a great Ford built car. The quality is right up there with the Lincoln anc Cadillac. I recomend this car to anyone.
Scooter says (May 12, 2008 at 9:36 pm):
I like the Taurus.. If I was in the market for a large sedan, it would be my car of choice (probably a Sable) but it's bland. If Ford had something more exciting, sexier in the showroom it might have a chance, but right now this conservative, boxy, boring car just can't compete with they style and performance of a Maxima or Accord. Its a shame such a good product was wrapped in such a mediocre shell. Maybe the Aussie Falcon as an SHO could shake things up??
Rhonda says (August 12, 2008 at 2:26 pm):
I would really like to see the SHO come back. I owned a 1993 Ford SHO and I miss that car. If I could find a Black on Black again like my old one, I would buy it right now!!!! I would buy a new one if they would come out with one like Jaxson said.... like the 500GT!!! My old 'baby' beat all the 'cool' cars on the road!! And it was my 'family' car!!! Please bring back the FORD TAURUS SHO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
99 SHO GO says (May 24, 2008 at 6:37 pm):
However unlikely. But it would be awsome.
Jaxson Maddux says (May 19, 2008 at 2:20 am):
WTF is wrong with you guys? Bring back the SHO with the same motor as the 500GT.
Juston says (May 6, 2008 at 7:56 pm):
I like the new Taurus when its Black on Black, with some aftermarket wheels and tires, its a much more executive look. If it had the work solutions in it with the SYNC, it would be more appealing to be as a person that spends hours in my vehical a day, going from appointment to appointment, taking clients to lunch, and at the moment my 2003 Lincoln Aviator is costing me about $700.00 a month in fuel. The Taurus would save me a 1/3 at least.
Fabian says (April 26, 2008 at 5:42 pm):
Please descontinue this model.
This is a looser design
Joseph M. Powell says (April 24, 2008 at 9:24 am):
Bring back the Taurus SHO
rhonda says (August 12, 2008 at 2:27 pm):
AMEN!!! I AGREE!!! Bring back the Taurus SHO!!!
