Volvo revealed the XC60 at the 2008 Geneva Auto Show in March. Steve Mattin, Volvo’s Design Director, describes the new crossover as the company’s “boldest so far. The XC60 radiates a clear Volvo presence,” says Mattin. Future Volvo models will follow the same design cues: the grille on all future Volvos will become more prominent, with angled parking lights and with headlamps that sweep up into the front fenders.
Volvo Cars’ new crossover is spiced with the very best from two car types. The lower body is wide and mated with high ground clearance and large wheels. Up above, the flowing lines suggest the coupe. Designed to be utilitarian and versatile, the XC60 designers set their sights on a target group that cares about design, brand integrity, and high-tech content.
Based on a concept that debuted at the 2007 North American International Auto Show, the XC60 will be available in North America in spring 2009. It’s powered by the turbocharged T6, produces 281 hp and comes standard with all-wheel-drive and Volvo’s extensive safety feature, including City Safety, which applies the brakes if a low-speed impact is imminent.
