If history repeats, buy it fast. Euro fords always turn into a cult car but are discontinued in short order. (Fiesta, XR4ti, Focus SVT) due to lack of demand.

I just returned from UK and would buy a Fiesta Diesel tomorrow if it were available in the USA.

we LOVE our tiny Ford vehicles. We have owned a Pinto, a Ranger and a Fiesta and Aspire. All have served us well. Our Aspire just plain wore out after ten years of 43 mpg and only ONE costly repair, a fuel pump. Loved that car. Our Ranger and Festive would still be with us today if my car killer husband hadn’t totalled them I’m sure. He was driving the Aspire the last six years or so, and believe me he is a real torturer of motor vehicles. The Aspire lasted him longer than any other vehicle we have owned, we bought it new in 1997. We live in rural MO on a gravel road, with a 300′ gravel driveway that get pretty darn rough in the winter. This car and my Jeep made the driveway. I even drove this car to KC the day after a blizzard, 95 miles each way…it to me to the hospital in KC, KS in a february ice storm and back home after surgery. Can’t recommend small Fords highly enough. When this Festiva finally reappears here, we’ll sure be there to take a look…depending on price maybe a buy.

I own a 2007 Focus ZX5 and love the versatility. So I was upset that Ford eliminated the hatchback with the redesign of the 2008 American model. The Fiesta (hope Ford calls it the Verve or something else… how about the Ford “ToGo”… freakin’ sells itself - marketing would be so easy) gives me hope of something sporty yet practical to look forward to when I’m ready to trade it in.

It’s about time Ford has smartened up!! Now they need to bring over the Ford Focus from the U.K. It is much better looking than the american version and has a lot more options up for selection. Keep going Ford, but you need to speed it up a bit!! The company is in big trouble and needs to even make these cars mentioned above into hybrid models.. I’m a ford fan and would like to stay that way but I am seriousy looking at subaru..

I used to own a ford festiva 1991. It was great on mileage. 40 miles to 1 gallon of gas, and that’s when gas was about $1.05. Now I own a Hyundai, and it only gets 30 miles to the gallon. Am hoping that Ford Festiva ECO will be back in the states and priced at a level where poor, and middle income American’s will be able to afford it. Yes, I would like to purchase a Ford made vehicle, but if your prices are like a Hybrid ($26,000 -30,000) you can keep them.

Any plans to seriously play catch-up and release the Fiesta diesel in the US?

i bought ford fiesta 2008 in syria, but i did not find this car on your website. is this cause fiesta is not original ford made? i realy have bad experience with it, cause of the engine 1250 cc, its noisy like a blinder (especialy with thid shift).

A small diesel five door hatchback would sell quick. I wish that Ford would produce a small pick-up truck with a four cylinder diesel. I have a Ford Ranger (Edge) and the miledge is not that good.

I just bought a 2008 Focus, and have been planning to keep it. However, if Ford were to release a vehicle like the Fiesta with the Verve-like styling in the US, I would seriously plan to get one!

If Ford is going to survive in the eco-growing market, the Fiesta is an absolute necessity. Period. Sooner rather than later, please!

I just returned from France and was amazed at the energy efficient cars the Europeans have to choose from. Granted the economics of our gas prices have just started to make me question my Expedition, however its kept me safe for many years. I purchased a Diahatsu Charade from a Ford dealer in 1992(my intended purchase was a Fiesta). It was a 3 cylinder, 48 miles per gallon and honestly the best car I have ever owned and they were everywhere in France. I was truly amazed when I returned home and started researching fuel efficient cars and found out they are no longer available to us. Ford, please bring these cars back to the U.S.

The Fiesta is like a modern day Yugo, only it is quality made and has alot more leg-room.

Just imagine the success of that Fiesta if it were available today. Oh well. I am also a VW diesel owner. I am disappointed that the price of diesel has taken away most of the savings that could have been mine. I think most VW diesel owners mostly use their highest mileage readings as an average. I am very interested in this Fiesta it looks good for a small car. I hope they focus on fuel mileage and not performance. If I wanted a performance car I would by a Mustang. I hope they develop a gasoline engine that uses the cam timing to extend the intake valve to remain open long into the compression stroke along with a fully open throttle and directly inject the fuel into the combustion chamber. During idle and low speed cruise they could eliminate most of the drag caused by tying to pull air against a closed throttle plate. Closing the valve near the end to trap only the amount of air needed for idle or low speed cruise should greatly increase efficiency. Don’t see the future of diesel in small cars. To costly. There must be quite a loss of efficiency during low speed and idle if you have to compress all that air needed for diesel combustion.

I agree completely with Frederick. Why are American consumers denied the diesels and 5 door hatchbacks offered elsewhere?

I had a 1992 festiva and I loved it. I traded it in on a bigger car when my family started to grow but it has never been the same without it. I will definetely buy another one when it hits the show room floor

I like the idea of adding another fuel-efficient vehicle to the lineup of another major automaker; however, I hope the Fiesta offered for sale in the US will be similar to the 5-door that will no doubt be popular in Europe. Hatch-backs, though under-rated by some, have a place in the small car market where space in the vehicle is at a premium. Also, I would hope Ford would take the initiative and offer a small vehicle in the US equipted with a diesel engine. Perhaps Ford can help turn around the US prejudice against diesel consumer vehicles. While diesel might be more expensive than gasoline, mileage is higher and clean diesel technology makes the vehicles as enviornmentally friendly, especially when you take into account the fact that one would have to burn one to 1.5 gallons or more of gas to equal the mileage output for one gallon of diesel.

I have owned only Ford vehicles for about 15 years now, and have had nothing but great experiences with them! Please, push this model along - I’m ready to buy!

My wife and I had a 1979 Fiesta and we loved it. Wish we still had it. We would be interested in purchasing the new version “only” if it comes in a diesel. This nation needs a FORD that gets 50 mpg.

I don’t see any mention of the Fiesta ST model available in the UK. Sporty and great mileage. The diesel engine getting over 60mpg. Ford will no doubt only make a larger engine available only getting 35mpg. VW will be making available the new TDI Jetta getting over 40mpg. The VW 1.9 liter gets over 50mpg.

Please have a diesel as an option or you may as well keep it. What we DO NOT need is ANOTHER subcompact that only gets in the 30’s MPG. Take the Smartcar - PLEASE - 1800 lbs and only 33 mpg. Do they think we are stupid ?? Of course, we ARE stupid.

GM’s Colbolt just came out with a “higher milage” model. Wow……….new engineering ? Heck no - they tweaked the fuel injection and put bigger tires on the car.

Every subcompact on the road today should be getting in the 50’s MINIMUM mpg.

I want $10.00 a gallon gas TODAY ! Only when the economy crashes will all the idiots in power do something. And the idiot consumers may give up the BIG cars.

Don’t get me wrong - I’m not blaming them. Look at the large cars and SUV’s and Hummers on the road today.

Like the car but I think the look of the Verve is better. The Verve is going to attract the younger generation and unless you make the Fiesta much more fuel efficient than the focus you are going to have much of the same. Stay focused on the look of the Verve.

Its taken way to long to bring back the Fiesta, I hope its done right unlike the US Focus! Please give us a fuel efficient diesel engine for our cars! I am a Focus driver but im very dissapointed in the quality of our Focus vs the Eurpean model. if Mazda can use the updated platform them why aren’t we? Come on guys!!

Just wondering if there is a posibility that the frame on these might hold up to a V8 swap? I have done similar things int he past at my shop with other small vehicles. I did a Metro with a turbo charged 454 (761hp), although now the back seat is the only seat. I did a cavaler with a supercharged LS2 (797hp), and Miata with a massive V10 viper engine (688 hp). All these cars are a blast but hey had to have some mods done to handle the power, I just figured this car might be my next venture after my Honda CRX with an Astin Martin V12 turbo, (est: 1150 hp). If anyone has any thoughts on this project I’d like to hear about them, I don’t have much info on the fiesta. I will be lookign to order one of these in the next 6 months, and byt the way great job ford.

I’ll be filling out my paperwork to buy one the day I hear that the 3 door is coming to North America.

Has anyone thought about making this a proformance car, like maybe a turbo on the 4cyl. Make it a rice killer and show those Japs how it’s done. I’d love to pull up next to a yota or a ssan and blow them off the line and never look back.

Well I can say that Ford won’t be bringing any kind of diesel over here for several years, now that diesel is almost 5 bucks a Gal. Plus it doesn’t help that the US has such stupidly strict laws that Diesels will most likey be outlawed in the near future. Let us have them F the laws, and as far as I’m concered F the rest of the world. I don’t care who is cleaner or has the best rep, I want 50mpg and 200hp/300lbft out of a 4cyl oil burner.

I am really excited about the new Ford Fiesta/Verve coming to the United States in 2009. I am keeping my fingers crossed that they will offer the diesel engine (which I hope can handle biodiesel) with it coupled with a manual transmission. It will most definitely be the next new car I purchase.

I love this new car, I can’t wait to drop in a suprcharged 5.4 with 500hp and destroy the stang. I hope Ford will offer a performance package when this car is released. If not then why bother doing anythign at all with it. All I haer about is people complaining about the gas prices here, if it’s that bad why not boycot the auto motive industry untill they get some good vehicles out there. There are plenty of nice used cars to go around but most of you probably think you’re too good for used. If people unite one a single front then we can turn around this global “crisis”, stand together be strong. It would only take one maybe two years at most to take down the power houses that run this country.

Up until 2003 I drove nothing but Fords, since then I have driven nothing but Chrysler, and on my way to eiter Toyota or Volkswagon unless the American car manufacturers can make something that I actually want!

Please include a diesel for the USA. Even if it is a loss leader, it will do wonders for fords reputation to be the MPG leader in the USA.

Personally I can’t wait for this car to come to the US. I owned a 78 Fiesta, 89 Festiva and lastly a 93 Festiva which I reluctantly gave up in 2006 for a Toyota Yaris. If Ford had an equivalent car at the time I would have bought it then. Ford…I pray this car is as reliable as the Festiva, inexpensive and gets great gas mileage….I “may” just switch back!

I like this car, I like it alot–just get it over here now and start building here now…and please— mercifully kill off the American Focus……..dear Lord……you guys seriously wasted too much money resurrecting dead….. I mean my gawd that thing looks like totally bastardized piece of crap to be quite honest. I really believe the stateside design crew should stop being so lazy and arrogant and start opening up their minds a bit.

I have been personaly been sending FoMoCo management, sales, executives, hell even sent one e-mail to little Bill himself for 7 years to send the Fiesta over here. Quote, ” the market is not favorable for this car or our customers in USA”. One guy wrote back saying he personaly knows VW loses $600 on every TDI they sell, hence no fiesta. Well I owned 2 of them in the 80’s. The must have made something on them in the 70’s to bring them over here. Well I no longer work for Ford as they closed the Norfolk Plant. I can tell you from experience that the mindset is to make money even if they build just one a year. I don’t know how they remain in business. I broke down and bought my first Toyota-$200- 245000 miles. Damn I got to buy a blessed radio for it-jeese!

Its good to see ford finally bringing A car it should have had here already. looks like there will still be A 2 year wait for this car to be in the U S. meanwhile cars like yaris and fit will already have A stronghold.

This car beats the crap out of a mustang anyday!!! This car alone could be Ford’s savior. I have owned 7 fiestas in the past and i loved every one of them, sporty yet economical, luxurious yet simple. All I have to say is, it’s about time.
