At the 2008 Chicago Auto Show Ford unveiled new “smart” features for truck customers, announcing a collection of industry-exclusive technologies for F-Series trucks and commercial E-Series vans. Ford Work Solutions will be available this fall on the 2009 F-150, F-Series Super Duty, and E-Series vans. Transit Connect vans will join Ford’s commercial vehicle lineup with this technology in mid-2009.

Ford Work Solutions delivers four innovative features:
• An in-dash computer developed with Magneti Marelli and powered by Microsoft Auto that provides high-speed Internet access via the Sprint Mobile Broadband Network and navigation by Garmin. It’s the first broadband-capable in-dash computer in production. This allows customers to print invoices, check inventories and access documents stored on their home or office computer networks or from the job site.
• Tool Link, a Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) asset tracking system developed
in partnership with DEWALT, and ThingMagic, the industry expert on embedded RFID technology. This enables customers to maintain real-time inventory of the tools or equipment stored in the pickup box.
• Crew Chief, a fleet telematics and diagnostics system, which allows small fleet owners to efficiently manage their vehicles, quickly dispatch workers to job sites and keep detailed vehicle maintenance records.
• Cable Lock security system developed in partnership with Master Lock®, the industry-leading lock manufacturer, to discourage theft of expensive tools too large to fit in the cab.

Ford Work Solutions features were developed through hands-on research with contractors and skilled tradespeople in multiple markets around the U.S.

What we need here in the work world is a vehicle that gets better mpg!! All the gadgets in the world won't help if fuel cost is breaking the bank!!! I sold my 08 f-250 and bought a used truck that gets nearly double the mpg --- the 6.4 is a fuel HOG!!!! 13 mpg empty is ludicrous. The truck I bought is not as comfortable as the 08 f250, but I can't afford that much fuel--- why not bring vehicles like the ford s-max diesel van from europe?? they get 40 mpg hwy --30 in town. I was in europe a few weeks ago and rode in them-- nice van!! I would buy one in a heartbeat. They are a bit larger than the caravan, ride nice and great mpg!!!!

I've always owned a ford and always will and this is just the best thing ever that ford has done ford is surely number 1. wish my 95 f-150 has this.
el topo says (June 9, 2008 at 9:49 pm):
just tell me how many hydrogen refill stations do you see out there where you can refill your vehicle and that will answer your question
dcar says (June 8, 2008 at 11:17 pm):
OK. So how about a small pickup with the new Ecoboost engines? Give it a bit of a retro-modern looking grill, step-side rear bed. Something those of us who don't need an F-150 size truck could use, and that you don't need a step ladder to climb into... enough power to do weekend trips to the hardware store or to toss a small bass boat in back and head to a nearby fishin' hole?

I've heard Ford wants to 'mid size' the Ranger... Seems with $ 4 - $ 5 gasoline, that might be the exact wrong direction to go with the mini-F-150...

all the tech is good, but if you cant afford the gas to keep it running it is not worth a damm!!!!!!!! why dont ford put into a production vehicle that runs on hydrogen instead of gasolie and get off of oil, we need trucks to keep teh country moving, and we can do that with water the tech is there we have got to use this to make the world a better place, with less emissions
James Augustein says (April 30, 2008 at 10:58 pm):
Here's the problem with the Ford Work Solutions being "affordable technologies" the price for all these in a package is going to be over 5K most estimate closer to 10K. Yeah the little gagets are cool but honestly why bother, it's just another way for for to milk us for every last cent. Now as for the comment on how ford needs to bring back the 7.3, I don't see that happening any time soon. The 7.3 can and does outlast any other deisel on the market but it lags the stump pulling power of the 6.4. If they can implant the same technology into the 7.3 that they have in the 6.4 then they would rule the heavy duty market forever.
kevin says (April 22, 2008 at 1:08 pm):
NEED TO GO BACK TO THE 7.3
KEVIN says (April 19, 2008 at 7:34 am):

Ben Mccauley says (April 8, 2008 at 11:08 am):
As a small business owner this would make a difference when buying new trucks and vans

Tyler says (March 24, 2008 at 9:38 pm):
Great idea! This is years ahead of the competition. Ford has always been number one on trucks!
Nathaniel Maxwell says (March 15, 2008 at 9:38 am):
The work solutions is a great idea as a Ford sales associates all of the customers that i have showed this to loved it.
Toolman says (February 13, 2008 at 7:59 am):
This is an exceptional step forward for the work truck. Asset control is big, and the losses are staggering. If this can save just one tool a year it will more than pay for itself. Wow.
David says (February 7, 2008 at 9:27 pm):
Ford Work Solutions is a great idea. This should be, if it is not, offered in every F-series truck, E-Series van, and any other commercial vehicle. The only improvemet is that the printer should be factory installed somewhere out of the way. As an option, of course.
