2009 Ford Edge
2009 Ford Edge

The 2009 Edge Sport makes it debut at the 2008 Chicago Auto Show. Designed appeal to customers who want a sportier custom look and feel, Edge Sport keeps up with customers’ interest in personalization and industry shows like the Specialty Equipment Market Association Show in Las Vegas.

The Sport model – which joins the SE, SEL and Limited models in the range – makes the Ford Edge the first vehicle in its segment to offer a customized model. Its design and features like VistaRoof™ and SYNC helped make Ford Edge the nation’s top-selling crossover.

Edge Sport stands on available 22-inch polished aluminum wheels or the standard 20-inch premium painted wheels with branded center hubs. 40-series Pirelli Scorpion Zero tires complete the look. This marks the first time that a 22-inch wheel-and-tire combination has been offered on a crossover. The eight-piece Edge Sport body kit includes a unique front air dam, side skirts, lower door caps and a rear skirt, all finished in body color, instead of the dark lower on other Edge models. The front air dam features integrated fog lamps and a lower grille insert.

“The aftermarket industry has grown to a $40 billion annual business, and crossovers are the fastest-growing vehicle segment in the U.S.,” said Mark Fields, president of The Americas. “We want customers to know that Ford can customize their Edge – right at the factory.”

The 2009 Ford Edge Sport will be available in the fall of 2008.

I really, really like the Edge. But I have to agree with everyone...you need to make it a hybrid sooner rather than later.
edge says (June 30, 2008 at 5:19 pm):
make it a clean diesel. NOT a hybrid
Ewby says (June 23, 2008 at 11:26 pm):
I hate to beat a dead horse, but i too will not purchase an Edge unless it is a hybrid. And I really, really like this vehicle. I have to have a hybrid for all of the driving i would need to do for work. I hope that i don't have to get the toyota highlander (which is already in a hybrid), i would much rather have the edge.
DUCKRACER says (June 18, 2008 at 5:25 pm):
I want an EDGE with the 3.5 EcoBoost!!!!!!!
al says (June 16, 2008 at 7:35 pm):
Make the hybrid Edge now...
mark jordan says (June 9, 2008 at 10:04 am):
get the edge to 24 city and 32 hwy and you will sell a ton of these but rt now makes no sence to buy or trade the publice is just doing other things with money .
Sue Link says (June 6, 2008 at 9:26 pm):
I waited for the 2009 models to buy a Ford Edge, because Ford offers the Escape in a Hybrid, so certainly Ford would know that the Edge would sell better in a Hybrid. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!! I also would like the front passenger seat to fold down w/out having to purchase the leather seat option. I will wait until the 2010 models come out to see better fuel efficiency in the Edge. The vista roof is a great option, but the price is way more than its competitors similar roof options.
Tom says (June 3, 2008 at 8:16 am):
Long-term cost and environmental impact are debatable. I've owned a VW Beetle TDI since 1999 - it has 165K miles on it and still going strong. The price premium was $1200 and I estimated at the time that I'd have to own the car for almost 5 years in order to break even. Obviously, things worked out well for me. The benefits of a hybrid are similar - if you are looking at only out-of-pocket savings then you're going to have to hold on to the car for a while. Of biggest concern is the battery pack itself, it's projected lifespan and its possibilities for recycling. On the other hand, try to project resale value in, say, 5 years. If gasoline is priced in the 7-9 dollar range, how easy will it be to unload that 24MPG Edge? Ask today's Hummer owners if they're getting top dollar these days. I'm shopping around to replace the Beetle now and, frankly, I've not seen anything that fully meets my needs. I like the Escape Hybrid but I can't find any in the area and it's a bit uncomfortable. The Edge with the Escape's Hybrid drivetrain would be great.
MAtthew says (June 3, 2008 at 12:25 am):
PLEASE make an Edge Hybrid or electric Edge!!!! It's about time. And two years from now is way too long!
John Vardaman says (May 31, 2008 at 12:52 pm):
24 mpg will not cut it. Why doesn't Ford and 90% of the rest of the auto industry get it? It isn't just about the environment...no one can afford to buy a new unless it will decreasee their gas consumption. Hybrid is a proven technology as is diesel and there are multiple other drive train platforms out there that are viable and could be put into production if some car company was really bold and visionary. Look at what the Prius did for Toyota...what would a fuelcell Edge do for Ford?
C says (May 29, 2008 at 11:36 am):
I really want an Edge but I'm waiting until it becomes a Hybrid. Anyone looking for an electric car might check out the Aptera being built by a California company and scheduled for 2008 production...very very cool!
Terry says (May 22, 2008 at 1:56 pm):
Make a Diesel version with AWD and you have yourself a sale. Otherwise the Edge isn't worth it for only 24 miles per gallon highway.
Ms. California says (May 20, 2008 at 11:47 am):
Why doesn't Ford get it? I feel like we are reliving the 70's again. HYBRID, HYBRID, HYBRID Cross-over vehicles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Julie says (May 11, 2008 at 6:55 pm):

ashley mcalpine says (May 10, 2008 at 6:04 am):

Steve says (May 7, 2008 at 11:34 am):
Hybrid, Hybrid, Hybrid PLLLEEEAAASSSSSEEE!!!
Ali says (May 7, 2008 at 10:54 am):
This is a really cool car! I would definitely drive this.
