Come on good design and crappy gas millage. i thought it would of rivaled pretty close to the Toyota XB with design and shape.. but then the price tag! and its not even available in hybrid! no wonder ford and chevy are going down the crapper. they dont listen to us customers! Ford has awsome vechiles over seas which would increase there sales here alot and yet they dont bring them over, and its not the safety issue as its easy to add that stuff in!

They need new managment! end of story! better material sources to get cheaper prices and give us a better deal!

Sorry Ford, i love your products, but at close to $30K for a nicely equiped i can sacrifice for the slightly smaller vechiles that get about 40% better gas milage and save about 10-15K on price point!

thanks
i assume your comments are based on your personal experience and i must respect that. i however, have a different view. i sell Ford vehicles to small and large companies. i am able to talk with the drivers of construction site trucks with 180,000 hard miles and shuttle van companies that schedule their vans to run in excess of 600,000 miles. Ford makes a high quality product that you can be proud to call your own as an american. as for the belief that foreign vehicles are far superior in quality, that was probably true 20 years ago, but the numbers no longer support perception. Ford is right there with toyota and honda for workmanship and defects. there are many reasons to spend your money with an american company. a quality product is one of the reasons

I agree with you, FORD does make good vechiles, but they crap out at 100K miles, unlike there rival partners cars that can go 200K plus (nissan, toyota), i know they all have there quirks from time to time, but come on, look at this flex, its great, but compared to the HHR, the XB it sucks! they could of made it so it can compete on gas milage and price with the competion, in my opion yes its a great vechile, fail ford will if they do not change there future designs into flex fuel/ alternative fuel vechiles so they can get better fuel ecconomy!

I live in Portland, OR. I have some questions about the Flex. When will it be available to test drive here?
Is the console in the 2nd row removeable? Or can you order without the console? I want to be able to fit two dog crates there without the console.

I like the looks, am anxious to see and drive it. Do the side doors slide open or do they open outward?

It should get decent gas mileage considering it will have as an option the new EcoBoost engines from ford the 3.5 liter V6. So if they're scheduled to get a 20% increase over standard engines I'd say 23-26 HWY I'm assuming it's a rather heavy car so it might be lower.
Very nice design! Finally a welcome departure from the jelly beans ford has put out lately. I am looking at a replacement for my aging Windstar. But since I only buy used... some of you are going to have to buy new, trade it in within a year or two, so I have something to buy!

Now if only ford would replace the gawd-awful Crown Vic with the Interceptor. And also put the Verve into production ASAP, since Ford ruined the Focus with something as simple as the little fake chrome side vents (Whoever signed off on that one at Ford should be fired).

Anyway, I like the Flex. It better get better than the lousy 19 mpg my Windstar gets.

The gas mileage would be a huge factor in what decides it for me. I like the car, but think any higher priced family vehicle better have decent if not great gas mileage. I believe your initial concept of this car did show wood panels on the sides. I think the wood panels are a great idea and you need to listen to what your customers want. A roomy family car that is good on gas mileage and fun to drive. I've had the Mini van, Explorer, Expedition, and currently drive an E150 Conversion van but I'm really sick of them all. Maybe this one will be the ticket.

I really like the look of the new Flex. It's got the edge of the 1996 Taurus wagon but in a completely different way. The only thing that would hold me back is if the throttle sticks (like many new FORD's do now) and if you can't use the transmission to downshift (like many new FORD's do now)... Get those two right and I'm trading in my Aviator.

I saw the car yesterday at the Chicago Auto....I love it. I am a car lover and like cars that look different than all the rest...the Flex offers many cool features I have to have and will be next on my list to buy so far. The way you can customize this car is awesome! Plenty of space inside! The fact it has the 7 color mood lighting, a sweet vista roof(gotta have), two different roof colors, the grooves in the door panels, refrigerated cooler in back though way too expensive at $780(nuts!), family DVD even with the vista roof, 260 HP, Sync, leather...I am there when it comes out. My only concern is how it drives...I am a Mazd fanatic and love the spunk(zoom, zoom) of the Mazda's and it has to drive pretty nicely in order for it to be a total package!!
Oh and the Verve...Ford...you ARE headed in the right direction and it started with the EDGE!!! Thanks. 42 yr old mom and car lover!!

Will my family of 5 fit in this? My wife and I are both over 6' tall and our 3 kids will be the same in a few years. I am in desperate need of finding an exciting Ford vehicle to trade my Expedition in for, but our size really limits our options and everything that fits us comfortably gets horrible gas mileage! My Expedition only gets 12-14mpg which is killing us and my wife is tired of driving a "truck". Help me out Ford!

About the same size - ~4" shorter/3" narrower but has 2" MORE headroom in the front row and ~5" MORE legroom in the second row - more than any SUV or minivan. The only car I've seen with more 2nd row legroom is a stretched Town Car!!! So unless you have extra wide stuff, it will fit easier in the Flex than the Expedition or any GM SUV.

As the Marketing Manager for Ford Flex, I would like to thank everyone for their opinions, insight and excitement for the all-new Flex. This is a great addition to the Ford lineup. <br>
<br>
I want to answer a few questions from your posts. First, the width between the rear footwells of the Flex is 41.1". I would also note that our seats in the 2nd and 3rd row, as well as the front passenger seat, all fold flat allowing for longer items to fit easily within the vehicle. <br>
<br>
Also, I encourage you to visit our Flex website (<a href="http://www.fordflex.com/?glbcmp=fv|kpearce|1|show|20080124" title="www.fordflex.com" rel="nofollow">www.fordflex.com</a>) to build your ideal vehicle. From this site, you will be able to build and view a vehicle without the optional two-tone roof and learn more about some of the surprising features we have to offer. <br>
<br>
While you are at the website - be sure to sign up for email updates!<br>

Unfortunately if this is Ford' short term vision marketshare will remain where it's at or decline further.

Ford's truck designs work well however other vehicle designs lack the lines of creativity required to bring the brand front and center. Outside of the Mustang and Edge I do not see anything that would lure a young or not as young as I used to be car buyer to Ford.

Ford needs to find a way to build excitement. Whether that's getting the cutting edge in a vehicle that is primarily powered by electricity and secondarily by ng, gasoline, diesel ethanol or fuel cells to market faster than anyone else in a package that is irresistably sporty or simply getting an attractive more affordable hybrid out in mass, Ford needs to find a way to become the buzz in order to avoid being left behind as soemthing that once was !!! "

Hire some great concept designers with a more Edgy style !!!!!! Get noticed and start people talking Ford again !!!!!

Just came back from the autoshow, you did not mention the Verbe in your note. This little car looks very exciting for new entries. My guess is that the gas mileage will be great too! Also, although not new in design, the Escape is still a very attractive option.

I think that a lot of the design work went to Lincoln, a lot happening there. It is hard to turn direction on big ships, to me, looks like Ford is heading in the right direction.

This is a real good looking vehicle. Why have they waited four years to make this since cocept and why have they changed it so much? Why isn't Ford putting the new the Ecoboost engine technolgy in this to make more fuel efficient, instead of the same engine that they have and had in the Taurus. 500 Hundred, Freestyle, and Escape. Its time for Ford to have a car (crossover) that gives more than 16 miles to a gallon. With the price of gasoline today.

To ford motor company. I have bought a 2007 Toyota Avalon. My 88 town car finally gave out. I Hate this poor excuse of a car. I believe it is their FLAGSHIP of thieir lineup. The seats are killing my back and the seating position is a very poor design. The seat cushions are too shore and seats very narrow. This is a very noisy car especially front wheel noise coiming into the cabin. Brakes are soft, headlights are very poor. the radio is a joke. I have yet to find a good seating position, after 21000 miles. I am almost sure that I am sitting 100% of the time while this junk is in motion How can you be so stupid Toyota. I would go out to my driveway and sit in my old TC. What a wonderful ride. I am going to tell why all this has occured. Toyota wants me to buy a Lexus. More money for the japanese. it behoves all of you so called engineers to stop wasting your time and put the lincolin town car seats in all your cars and vans. I will spell it for you COMFORT !!! Have you ever heard anyone say I Have worked hard all day long. I just want to go home and relax in my plastic fold up chair. NO They want the LAZYBOY I have 2 of them. Do you get my point about good seats and seating position.

I wish their was one ford dealer that could put me into a tarus without all that crap from the sales people>

I'm about to purchase a Honda Odyssey, but I'd hold off to get a Flex instead if I knew that it was 48" wide between the wheel wells in back. I don't like minivans, never have. But I need the width to carry my dogs. Lots of people have asked the question, but no answers yet. I hope someone from Ford reads this and responds. Please, don't make me buy a minivan.
