2009 Ford Flex
2009 Ford Flex

Alan Mulally, Ford’s President and CEO, rode onstage in a 2009 Ford Flex to kick off the 2008 North American Auto Show for Ford. The crossover made its debut at the 2007 New York Auto Show. It will be one of six new products that will be available from Ford in 2008, reaching Ford’s goal of having a 60% new showroom in 2008.

The Ford stand at the NAIAS features a Flex Design Studio with two books showing images of the Flex and its different styling options. Customers are able to choose colors for the Flex’s roof from ten options, including monochromatic or two toned. The Design Studio books show how the Flex evolved from the 2005 Ford Fairlane Concept to its current look: a crossover with room for style as well as seven.

The 2009 Ford Flex will be available in mid-2008. Watch this space for updates.

I purchased the FLEX in Late August. It is one great vehicle. It replaced my Freestar. I miss not having the directionals on the side mirrors. Other than that it is one fabulous automobile. Rides and handles like a sports car.

Come on good design and crappy gas millage. i thought it would of rivaled pretty close to the Toyota XB with design and shape.. but then the price tag! and its not even available in hybrid! no wonder ford and chevy are going down the crapper. they dont listen to us customers! Ford has awsome vechiles over seas which would increase there sales here alot and yet they dont bring them over, and its not the safety issue as its easy to add that stuff in!

They need new managment! end of story! better material sources to get cheaper prices and give us a better deal!

Sorry Ford, i love your products, but at close to $30K for a nicely equiped i can sacrifice for the slightly smaller vechiles that get about 40% better gas milage and save about 10-15K on price point!

thanks
Tim and Lori Garver says (June 28, 2008 at 4:01 pm):
We saw it in person and really like it but with the price of gas make it a hybrid to increase mileage and we'll reconsider. For the time being, we'll stick to our 2006 Hybrid Escape.
tom briggs says (June 25, 2008 at 9:01 pm):
When is Ford going to come out with an electric car. I am tired of Ford and GM having our sons and daughters die for oil. Their inefficient vehicles are making me sick. I am a shareholder and want to see some return on my investment.
Scott says (September 21, 2008 at 10:45 am):
I agree that the price is a bit high but to say that Ford and GM are causing people to die ffor oil is just plain rediclous and insults the intelligenge of anyone looking at this sight for true comments about a vehicle. I am a veteran that fought for this oil and I don't remember the management from Ford or GM sending me over seas.

FORD: First on Race Day....... Ford owns all those foreign cars....... FORD DRIVE ONE
Thorsten says (June 11, 2008 at 6:56 am):
Awesome. We are discussing wether we should trade our 2006 F150 HD or our Edge. I guess at the end we'll have three cars.........
Harvey says (May 5, 2008 at 2:31 pm):
well I was just kinda scanning thru the net and stumbled in to the Scion owners website.......oh man they HATE this car!!! what a bunch of spoiled babies!!!
they think Ford ripped them off or something---they are just slamming Ford left and right....I think they are mad because their new box now looks like crap---Hilarious!!! I think the Flex is gonna kick some Scion booty to be honest!!!! I do take serious issue when they say Fords are cheap and poorly constructed---they have no idea what they are talking about---I'll take american made any day !! Maybe they should all move to Japan if they love it so much!

i assume your comments are based on your personal experience and i must respect that. i however, have a different view. i sell Ford vehicles to small and large companies. i am able to talk with the drivers of construction site trucks with 180,000 hard miles and shuttle van companies that schedule their vans to run in excess of 600,000 miles. Ford makes a high quality product that you can be proud to call your own as an american. as for the belief that foreign vehicles are far superior in quality, that was probably true 20 years ago, but the numbers no longer support perception. Ford is right there with toyota and honda for workmanship and defects. there are many reasons to spend your money with an american company. a quality product is one of the reasons
jd says (July 7, 2008 at 10:39 pm):
I agree with you, FORD does make good vechiles, but they crap out at 100K miles, unlike there rival partners cars that can go 200K plus (nissan, toyota), i know they all have there quirks from time to time, but come on, look at this flex, its great, but compared to the HHR, the XB it sucks! they could of made it so it can compete on gas milage and price with the competion, in my opion yes its a great vechile, fail ford will if they do not change there future designs into flex fuel/ alternative fuel vechiles so they can get better fuel ecconomy!
Kenny says (April 9, 2008 at 10:24 am):
i will defiently be buying one when it comes out! It is very sharp!
Nancy Ingram says (April 5, 2008 at 9:56 pm):
I live in Portland, OR. I have some questions about the Flex. When will it be available to test drive here?
Is the console in the 2nd row removeable? Or can you order without the console? I want to be able to fit two dog crates there without the console.

I like the looks, am anxious to see and drive it. Do the side doors slide open or do they open outward?
Jery Mudge says (March 26, 2008 at 2:38 pm):
What is th sell price of the 2009 Ford Flex standard with only airconditioner and radio
D says (March 22, 2008 at 6:17 pm):
When will it be available? My lease is up in two weeks on my Explorer and I am interested!
Please advise?
Thanks,
D
Raul says (March 24, 2008 at 12:28 pm):
Well if you want the Flex, you are going to have to wait a couple of months before you can get your hands on one. The Flex is going to hit showrooms around the end of May or somewhere around June.
Luis says (March 20, 2008 at 4:36 pm):
It should get decent gas mileage considering it will have as an option the new EcoBoost engines from ford the 3.5 liter V6. So if they're scheduled to get a 20% increase over standard engines I'd say 23-26 HWY I'm assuming it's a rather heavy car so it might be lower. The car itself though is beautiful a welcomed changed over minivans. I'd say this will be the trend setter for minivans once it's out.
Mike L says (March 17, 2008 at 2:34 pm):
Very nice design! Finally a welcome departure from the jelly beans ford has put out lately. I am looking at a replacement for my aging Windstar. But since I only buy used... some of you are going to have to buy new, trade it in within a year or two, so I have something to buy!

Now if only ford would replace the gawd-awful Crown Vic with the Interceptor. And also put the Verve into production ASAP, since Ford ruined the Focus with something as simple as the little fake chrome side vents (Whoever signed off on that one at Ford should be fired).

Anyway, I like the Flex. It better get better than the lousy 19 mpg my Windstar gets.
george smith says (March 19, 2008 at 10:22 pm):
since i am a car nut and keep a vehicle only a year or so (unless i fall in love {1995 Lexus SC 300 coupe - 2005 hummer2 - 1993 lexus 400 - 1959 Elva Courier (race prepared) - 1999 first addition denali yukon} with the car, then i put it in the warehouse and visit it often}, i want what i see of the Ford Flex. It will be my first ford since the early thunderbirds and mustangs. So, its possible mine will be ready to sale in 12 months...or possible that it will go to the warehouse with my other treasures. Anxious to know when deliver begins. george h
Tom Mangini says (March 15, 2008 at 5:42 pm):
I really like the look of the new Flex, but I have a few questions before we run out and buy one. First, what is the projected gas mileage? Second, is it flat-towable, as in behind a motorhome? Thanks, Tom
