i just saw this at the LA Auto Show. i liked it. it appears really tall and bulky for the segment of the auto world that i think this car is targeted for. im sure it will be introduced as a crossover of some sort, but i still liked it. it provides a style that ford lacks at this moment. and cars like this, and the new ford idea of sustainable, small, and affordable, may be the saver of Ford at least, if the other american companies don't follow suit. the only thing besides this car that ford is missing, is the new and upcoming less expensive, smaller box-ish suv. honda- element, Kia- is getting the soul, scion- xb, nissan is bringing the cube, and i believe there was one im missing, but sooner or later, ford will need to try that new small box suv segment as well. this car needs to be introduced as soon as possible, and with as much of the show car qualities as possible. i am an aspiring auto designer, and i liked this car. maybe needs to be ford-ified on the front end. (use the ford front grill or something0.

Ford, I just saw the Verve concept up close at the LA auto show. I have seen plenty of pictures on the net, and I love it, but it looks even better in person.

My reaction? I looked at my girlfriend, and the first words out of my mouth were, and I quote: "Ford better build this f---ing car!!!!!"

The verve is better looking than ANYTHING Ford has on the road today in America. This car is so far superior aesthetically that it makes you wonder what the US designers and marketing geniuses were smoking when they approved the current Ford line-up.

I am not particularly into cars this small, but honestly I would buy this thing. It is classy and sporty at the same time. And if you don't fark up the interior it could be a tremendous hit. A TREMENDOUS hit!

Ford, if you don't build this car, as is (at least on the exterior) then I will have no choice but to see my stake in your company and to continue supporting foreign car makers. There is absolutely no excuse for not building cars this attractive in the US.

BUILD THIS CAR!!!!!

I have been a Ford product person for sometime now and presently in the market for a new car next year. Unfortunately, for the money and value, I am strongly leaning to Honda. Ford.....Please don't wait another 1-2 years to bring out the Verve.....I will not wait forever. Give the people what they want....more standard options without having to pay extra dollars....it can be done.

I desperately want to support the Ford Company with my next vehicle purchase. The last car I bought was a Highlander Hybrid for 31K with 25K miles on it instead of a new Escape Hybrid for 25K because I was afraid that after I rolled off the lot I would loose a bulk of my monetary investment and the repair records for the cars were not even comprable. I want to support the Ford company with my next new car purchase but I need a good reason to purchase it NOW not three years from now when the Japaneese companies have already come out with the concept years prior. If you put out an electric vehicle like the Fuse NOW, the country and people like myself would be grateful. I just don't understand why the world's first car company can't break all the rules, make an electric car a priority and put it into production before the Tesla company takes the whole market. I don't understand why Ford's hybrids don't out perform and cost less than the Japaneese versions with a bumper to bumper warantee that makes buying foriegn an obvious mistake. TEAR UP THE RULE BOOK, write a new one, get these products out and make America proud to by American again.

Ford,
Some keys to success:
1) Update your models within 4 years; don't stretch it out as long as you do (ie Ford Ranger has the same styling since 1993; the Focus went 7 years (2000 - 2007; don't even get me started with the Taurus) without serious updates.
2) Fuel economy...don't brag about 30 MPG; 30 MPG is not good enough. When you put hybrids in the Fusions, Focus', Verves, etc., then brag.
3) Bring new cars to market sooner. How can you increase market share when your competitors already have the concepts you speak of on the road now?
4) Have a line up which will appeal to younger drivers (affordable and stylish). You have too many cars outside the reach of people of limited means. Give these people a reason to join the Ford family, especially at a young age, and get them to want to stay within the family regardless of age or status.
5) Lose the conservative styling. Get the designers who created the Edge and Verve to lead and approve the design for other cars. Retire the designers of the Taurus and Lincolns.
6) Make more of your options standard equipment. People like a lot of standard equipment but do not want to be gouged.
7) Improve quality. I do think it has improved. Use quality parts from suppliers. When you see a specific part failing repeatedly from a supplier which increase customer repair bills; hold these suppliers accountable; make them pay or find a better supplier.
8) Lincoln should be the flagship and should have a look of their own instead of a rebadged Ford. Not sure what the marketing strategy is for this line up. I am sure the Fords are built on the same line as the Lincolns, but feel Ford should adjust their marketing by saying Fords are built on the Lincoln assembly line instead of saying Lincolns are built on the Ford assembly line.

I wish you would bring out the Verve now to the USA.

I am open to comments.
I do not think it is fair not to have a 65 mpg diesel powered car available to consumers and then public transpertation and Commercial tractor trailers all run on diesel .. I would go to europe and purchase if available to do so .. nice car..

In 1982 I rented a Ford Escort in Portugal.
I loved it. Great handling, great brakes and frugal. Returned to the US and went to my local Ford dealer to buy one. It was a totally different car.
The US version was a cruel joke compared to the Euro model. I sure hope this new car will be the Euro spec model.
Twenty six years later they might make a sale with me. WOW, twenty six years. How many other sales has Ford lost in 26 years?

"Always Late" should be Ford's theme. All the cars people in the U. S. are screaming for are somewhere in Europe.
Since Ford had dropped making the Focus ZX-3, The Verve will probably replace my 2000 Focus ZX-3. My Focus gets 23 mpg in the city.
I've been a 'Ford Mann' for over 40 years.
I've repaired them.
I've sold them.
My company runs 4 cars:-
A Ka
A Mondeo Zetec S TDCi
A Honda Civic (Fiesta replacement)
and a BMW (Mondeo replacement)
Why the change?
In a nutshell, poor dealer service!
(waiting for a return phone call (3 days) because they are too busy)
Mondeo Alloy rims coroding away.
Mondeo injector fault ( off the road for 3 months)
For 1 month I was haveing to use my wifes car.
For 2 months A Fiesta basic loan car.
I might add that even small company directors do not like useing Fiestas when they have paid for a top of the range Mondeo.
I don't want or expect you to post this. I don't even expect a reply, but I would'nt want to loose even one customer .

FoMoCo definitely needs to bring this car to NA, but seriously someone needs to consider renaming the vehicle. "Verve?"
How about something that off-sets the feminine suggested maroonish red? Something to bring it back into the realm of androgynous, since obviously the target market appears to be women.
Something that would take college student's eyes away from the Honda Fit or Toyota Matrix. The Matrix is ugly as sin, but even referring to it instantly conjures up the image of Neo killing Agent Smith.

That's why I suggest a slight change to: "Vendetta."

If Ford had been focusing on this kind of car, or even just marketing the same cars they sell in Europe, they wouldn't be getting their butts kicked by Toyota. We saw many really cool Fords on a recent trip to Europe and we all questioned why it is taking so long to get them at home. Also, many of the cars were manual transmission, which was also a treat, especially with the small motors. Come on Ford, get with it, or you will be left in the dust.

The Verve needs to happen now, not in 2010. Why is American industry so incredibly slow to respond the those needs and desires of the Americal public. With the American car industry its typically too little too late. In WWll the Germans went from concept on paper plane to a production jet in SIX WEEKS. If those freaks could do it why can't sane, supposedly technically superior car companies respond in time periods that at least SOMEWHAT correspond? The Verve is NOT "too little" but to take YEARS to go from concept to showroom just amazes me to no end. It's inexcusable. The auto industry needs to get a lot more serious about uni-platforms that can readily accomodate new engines, transmissions, skins and electronics. In doing so truly QUICK changes can be made and models more suited to the changing needs and desires of the public can be met and accomodated. Look, I practice medicine for a living, I am not an engineer or an industialist however common sense tells me that there is a log jam somewhere in this industry, whether it be stodgy stingy accountants, overly proud intransigent designers, overly cautious executives or whatever BUT whatever it is it needs to be cleaned out and a more streamlined more efficient paradigm of concept to production needs to be put in place. Lee Iococca needs to come in with his machete and do some serious trimming. The orient is not afraid to do what I am commenting on. Take a look at the Accura TL. Talk about a hot car. Just try to buy a used one -- gone in 60 seconds!. So then, what do the other Jap companies do in a fortnight? they come out with copy cats and they sell like hotcakes. What do American car companies do? the REFUSE to copy the Japs (foolish pride) and instead come out with behemoth bloated horribly designed (albeit with some FEW notable excetions; a few Fords, Caddies and Saturns) cars. Snap out of it Detroit, SELL CARS not American designs. American designs, for the most part, are out of touch, sloppy archaic and in numerous instances stupic looking (and looks matter). While Caddy has some hot lookers Lexus, Infinity and Accura are all POURING hot looking sophisticated beautiful cars into our markets at a rate that is frightening. Listen up Detroit, we Americans WANT TO BUY YOUR CARs BUT give us cars that LOOK HOT, and drive well and trouble free. Swallow your pride, reinvest in NEW designs consistant with what both Europe AND the Orient are putting out. American design, with some exception, STINKS!

Hype, Hype, Hype. When the heck are we going to see 100mpg? we were getting 42mpg in our 87 Cougar with a 3.8L engine and plenty of room, size, and power. Now we have to drive dwarfed cars that look like a circus act and cramp big time just to get 30mpg. If anyone really cared, we would get the 100mpg. And how about solar powered/solar charged gas-free clean green cars for at least the run to work and local. Wake up car builders, us customers are going to be building our own cars soon. 20-45k for a hybrid, NOT!

Come on, move it people! Gas at $4.00 a gallon small wonder your profits are carving new rings in to h*ll. At this point anything I can say will be redundant but for starters I will admit that I love my 06 zx3, great handeling and not bad milage, but I would like to see better. When I saw your 2008 line up I was shaking my head in dissapointment, sure the 08 focus sedan is a nice car, but it is years behind its compeditors. Vehicals of simalar size and maker come in different useful variations and offer better milage, for starters Yaris hatch and sedan, corolla (matrix), civic (several models available), fit, smart fortwo, Mini (clubman), and even the Aveo. I acknoledge that ford is doing a much better job addressing the issues than in the past but progress needs to be accelerated.

Love the look of the Verve. It is young and refreshing and definately an eye catcher. However, you desperately need something on the market that will at the very least get 40 miles to a gallon. Please Ford; I am and always want to be a Ford owner. I think Ford would get the gold medal.... if you can produce the look; along with quality and fuel efficiency. I think it is also time for Ford to express their pride in the quality of what they are building and extend their car warranties. This will tell consumers how much you believe in your product. Don’t let other car manufacturers knock you out of the Ballgame; stay competitive in the arena. Carry on your focus of what Ford’s original roots brought to consumers…..Why the very first Ford was ever made.

My ZX5 lease is up at the end of June. No hatchback in sight and forget trying to up-sell me on an Escape or Edge. I want a hatchback. Makes the Caliber look more appealing every day. For shame. The ZX5 was a great car but the miles are getting too high to keep it. I don't understand you guys and this hatchback thing over in North America.

I watched the Town Hall last week and can only shake my head. Gas prices didn't just go nuts. You guys went all-out truck in the Nasser days. Greedy greedy greedy.

Well, off to a Dodge dealership I guess. I can't believe it, I can buy A-plan and still don't have anything to buy from Ford. I'm shocked but know I am not alone. Give us the cars we want. Simple... someone needs to answer for it.

Ok Ford, you've given up on the balance of 2008 because you don't have product to sell in the US at $4.00 a gallon...

Oh wait!!! what about the product I specified back on January 26, 2008?? You're building it in Europe but not in the US...

My 2003 ZX3 now has over 170,000 miles and it's worth 20% more than it was back in January... but I can't buy a comparable new Ford.
Capitalism rules. IF YOU CAN'T DO IT HONDA WILL...and from where I sit that's a damn shame.
