With the North American debut of Ford’s Verve Concept, Ford announces a new vision for its future: small cars and sustainability. It shouldn’t come as a surprise to people who love Ford’s European small cars like the Ford Focus, Fiesta and Ka. “Ford’s small cars are loved in Europe and Americans love our European small cars,” says Jim Farley, Ford’s Group Vice President, Marketing and Communications. “Our global scale helps us develop and test products that we can bring to—and change—the North American market.”

Both four- and three-door Verve body styles were unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, as an introduction to a family of small cars set to debut in Europe and Asia beginning later this year and in North America in 2010. The four-door is the basis for the production vehicle that will be sold in North America. The European three- door is being shown to test market reaction to the body style. If it’s well received, it could be an added to the Verve product line.

Ford is building on decades of small car leadership in Europe as it develops new small cars for North America to appeal to customers who value technology, design and fuel efficiency. “The Ford global design team remembered, not so fondly, the econo-boxes of the 1970s and created the Verve concept as a vision of just how good a small car can be,” said J Mays, Ford’s group vice president of Design and chief creative officer. “Verve aims to ‘right’ North American buyers’ earlier small-car experiences by offering a product that changes customers’ views of small cars from ‘cheap’ to chic — and from affordable to desirable.”

This car rocks! Ford finally took the hint and brought us some pizazz from Europe. Just wish it could be here sooner. Now Ford... How about that UK Mondeo or better yet a Aussie Falcon. I think the Falcon would make a great SHO!
Anonymous says (May 9, 2008 at 6:09 pm):
need it now ASAP
KeMi says (May 9, 2008 at 10:56 am):
Why is Ford releasing this car in Europe and Asia first. Americans are looking for an alternative to the imports that have style and I think this is one such car as are the other European Fords that do not make it to this side of the Atlantic. A little note, if were a hybrid I would not think twice about buying one.
LB Nkonki says (May 1, 2008 at 6:03 am):
I've been saving for almost a year now,why wait please put the 3 door verve on market starting with SA this year and I will order now.
Scott says (April 27, 2008 at 11:41 am):
Please bring the hatches - my 2001 ZX3 has 150,000 trouble-free miles.... need to trade in. Hatchbacks give SUV-like versatility that compensates for the small overall size of the vehicle. I'd like the 3-door, but my kids say I have to get the 5-door.
Fabian says (April 26, 2008 at 5:07 pm):
This is a good looking car. 2010 is too late. It looks like my Mazda CX7,.... a coincidence?
Art says (April 25, 2008 at 7:02 pm):
I agree that ford should introduce the verve NOW or ASAP..I don't want a Honda I want this Car
Mark A. DiMento says (April 25, 2008 at 11:32 am):
The Verve is one sharp Car. Any chance it will be available in North America prior to the year 2010? I would like to purchase an American Car but I can not wait until 2010. Any thoughts?
AJS says (April 24, 2008 at 5:13 pm):
This is a stunning car, hands down. The problem? FORD IS MOVING TOO SLOWLY by waiting until 2010 to make this available to U.S. buyers. In the interim, Honda's 2nd-gen FIT will already be on sale as well as a host of of sub-compacts. People aren't going to wait a year if they need a small car now. Get the lead out, Ford, and do what's right by giving this car to us now!
DLB says (April 24, 2008 at 12:29 pm):
The front of this car is awesome, kind of Aston Martin meets Puegot... but doesn't the back remind anyone of short-lived (and ironically named) Ford Aspire?
Ed says (April 13, 2008 at 4:14 pm):
When can I order Verv? This is a stunning design. I can't remember a time when I wanted a FORD. I want one now. Please get it to the market SOON!
Robert R says (April 10, 2008 at 1:18 am):
WOW, this car looks awesome. Please Ford, DO NOT change anything on this car! As soon as they come out here I’m snatching one up for myself. I hope it comes in Vista Blue.
John says (April 9, 2008 at 9:22 pm):
Ford needs to bring this car to market ASAP. Replace the old escort and bring in the European escort. This car and other innovative models would bring Ford back to the forefront of the auto industry.
Mike says (April 5, 2008 at 3:36 pm):
My daughter and I saw this at the Dallas Auto show. Partially because of the color but mostly because of the styling, this was one of the most stunning cars in the hall. I don't know if the finished version will be as outrageous but Ford should consider keeping as much of this in tact when it goes on sale as possible, at least in the form of options. Boldness of this sort will be rewarded by a buying public that is sick and tired of tan and grey interiors. Color! Bring it!

Earl Bardsley says (March 31, 2008 at 9:00 pm):
bring the 3-door to the USA and I will buy one!
Keith says (March 30, 2008 at 2:25 pm):
Bring a 5 door hatchback to the USA, and I'll ditch my foreign car in a heartbeat!!
Cozmo says (March 26, 2008 at 11:58 pm):
The interior looks straight out of Tron. Kudos o all those involved. I'd prefer blue to the red, but it is cool indeed.
Peter says (March 25, 2008 at 8:51 pm):
I saw the Verve at the NY Auto Show, and I was really impressed with the body style. I also liked the ruby red paint. I hope that you produce this car soon. I also hope that you offer it (including the 4DR) with a manual transmission and a European tuned suspension.
Tyler says (March 24, 2008 at 9:45 pm):
Looks like a Nissan or Honda. Please bring something like this to the states sometime soon!!
