I've owned and driven the F-150s since the 1979 model. Every time ford has changed its looks the better it gets. I drive a 01 f-150 S/C with 198.000 miles on it. I wish I could get my hands on this one during truck month because it makes my blood boil. As far as HP. The dodge hemis are eating them selfs at ariund 45.000 miles and the things nasty to even look at. I'll keep my 4.6L until I drop dead. As a man once said, the only hole my ford won't get me out of is the one they put me into. Great job FMC.
The F150 Diesel CrewCab (improved version) will offer the fuel economy of a 4.4L diesel engine with the relaible level of torque for chores that fall under those that would require a F250 or F350. Meanwhile, the F150 offers the smooth ride of IFS and a better fit in the garage. IT IS NOT A SUPERDUTY BUT !!!! NOT EVERYBODY WANTS OR NEEDS A SUPERDUTY. Alot of people need more torque than the gas engine half tons but not as much as the superduty trucks. I have a full time job keeping folks safe and a small side business with a tractor/loader that weighs 7500 total incl the trailer.
I also have two young kids that I want to take on trips to Disney, Busch Gardens, etc etc etc. There are ALOT of guys just like me who want/need more torque but not as much as the superduty. I tested the Toyota Tundra Crewmax with my loaded trailer and it was an embarrassment for the salesman. My 1998 F250 Lite Duty with the older 5.4L was clearly superior at towing. I wasn't biased. I wanted the crewmax but the 5.7L crewmax was totally exaggerated. It was fast with no load but a truck needs to be able to pull. The diesel F150 will rule this segment. BUT, Ford needs to get that 1/2 ton diesel out there by mid 2009 or Toyota might beat them to the punch. If Toyo gets their Tundra with the 3.9L CAT diesel out first, Ford will be like a wrestler starting on his back. Ford needs to let the Lion Diesel out first so consumers can see them out on the street towing loads. This builds consumer confidence and that is what sells a truck. If I had a choice between a Peugeot /Lion diesel 1/2 ton and a CAT 1/2 ton, I would lean toward the CAT powered truck simply because Peugeot is known for building lite duty maintenance nightmares. I hope Ford will get that diesel on the street by March 09 or it's going to be a much harder road for them. Conversely, if Toyo gets the CAT 1/2 ton out first, I'll give it another tow test.
First off let me say that you sir are a liar. There isn't a Yota dealer out there who is going to let you test drive a Tundra with a trailer to pull behind it. Furthermore I have a 2007 Tunda that I bought in late 06, I pull a 36 foot flatbed trailer loaded with 3 JD 797 Mowers, and 2 JD 3320 tractors. I've been doing this for years with my F250 with the 5.4, and let me say it wasn't an easy chore. I bought the Tundra to be my daily driver but early last year my 250 took a turn for the worst, right infront of a semi hauling a mototr grader. After that I decided to use the tundra, and it worked great, and for the whole Spring, Summer, and Fall last year I used it for my business. I had the oportunity to take the load to a weigh station just to see how I was doing. The capacity of my tundra is 10,200 pounds, I was shocked when the scale showed 11,760 punds, so what ever you were drive sure as hell didn't have the 5.7 IFORCE motor in it, that is if you drove anything at all. Now I do agree that Ford should hurry up with the diesel, I would be the first in line at the dealer, well if it wasn't Jackson Ford here in Decatur. I am looking forward to the small diesel market boom that is expected. I am rooting for Ford on this one and I hope it works out that I can get one when the time comes.
I have a 1982 F150, a 1996 Ranger, and a 1999 F250. My wife drives a 1999 Mercury Cougar. Every vehicle we own is made by Ford. I do admit, the body design of this new 2009 F150 takes a bit getting used to, it sure is different, but it fits every need... to the step on the side, to the Bed extensions, ect...
It does have a way of not letting you forget you're in the 21st Century! WAY TO GO FORD!!!
I have been driving a 2004 F-150 since nov of 03, and I've been holding out on the diesel, for a couple years. I have put 603, 755 miles on my 5.4, and let me tell you that's alot of gas in 4 years. I've had the motor rebuilt 4 times, and re machined once, due to some excessive wear and tear. But now it has more power than it ever did before, and runs smooth as silk, with that more power came less mileage, down to a solid 13 on the highway down from 14.1. I had to add another tank just to stay out on the road longer. A diesel would realy help me out a ton, but i don't need a 3/4 ton truck. What I have now is a 2wd reg cab long bed, I don't need anything more, but I do need the 8 foot bed. These guys out there talk about needing a ton of truck shoved into a half ton, but what they want is the 3/4 ton "muscle" in a 1/2 ton. If that is all they want why not go buy a Tundra, they are meant to handle what you want for the 1/2 ton price. Most of us will never use our trucks to their fullest potential anyway, those who act like they need it are just trying to show off. I don't need a 400HP engine, my 300 is just fine for pulling a trailer or just cruising the open road. You start pumping tons of power out and you'll loose the reliability factor. Just leave the truck the same, and drop a small v6 diesel in it, that's all anyone ever needs in a 1/2 ton. I'm 42 years old, and with a good diesel I might never drive another truck.
I have been driving a 2004 F-150 since nov of 03, and I’ve been holding out on the diesel, for a couple years. I have put 603, 755 miles on my 5.4, and let me tell you that’s alot of gas in 4 years. I’ve had the motor rebuilt 4 times, and re machined once, due to some excessive wear and tear. But now it has more power than it ever did before, and runs smooth as silk, with that more power came less mileage, down to a solid 13 on the highway down from 14.1. I had to add another tank just to stay out on the road longer. A diesel would realy help me out a ton, but i don’t need a 3/4 ton truck. What I have now is a 2wd reg cab long bed, I don’t need anything more, but I do need the 8 foot bed. These guys out there talk about needing a ton of truck shoved into a half ton, but what they want is the 3/4 ton “muscle” in a 1/2 ton. If that is all they want why not go buy a Tundra, they are meant to handle what you want for the 1/2 ton price. Most of us will never use our trucks to their fullest potential anyway, those who act like they need it are just trying to show off. I don’t need a 400HP engine, my 300 is just fine for pulling a trailer or just cruising the open road. You start pumping tons of power out and you’ll loose the reliability factor. Just leave the truck the same, and drop a small v6 diesel in it, that’s all anyone ever needs in a 1/2 ton. I’m 42 years old, and with a good diesel I might never drive another truck.

This F-150 is cool looking, but Ford said that the 2009 F-150 was going to have either 400,390 or 360 HP, Now we have to wait. Come on Ford Motor Co. let get on the ball now. Look at Dodge RamCrew 380 Hp
Yes the new ford gots killer looks, but ford never said anything about there hp, there other web site out there that have said they have the real out put of hp, 325 hp and 380 lb of tq is that true only ford knows, all I hope for is that six speed trany give this new truck the performance that it needs, here are some numbers on the other trucks nission titan 317hp-380tq 5 speed 3.42 gears towing 9200-9400 payload 1300-1850 pounds 0-60 in 6.9-7.5 1/4 mile 15.1 at 90 mph, toyota tundra 381hp-401tq 6speed 4.30 gears towing 10000-10800 payload 1150-2050 0-60 in 6.5-1/4 mile 14.7 at 94 mph those are some impresive number from over seas, so maybe there is some hope with the 325hp and 380tq that is rumored look at the titan number its a 5speed and it has a smaller rear end hopefully for put in bigger gears maybe start with 3.73 all the way to 4.10 or 4.20 that would be nice my 06 crew cab with the 5.4 has a set of ford racing 4.10 and on 22s I can feel the power to the wheels and the improved towing we all know that toyota has the american companys on the car area lets not let them take our bread and butter sometimes we got to go all out and this is one of those times lets not stop at 31years at the top lets go all the way to 100 hell make for ever and ever when it cames down to it ford you cant lose the truck war this is were you guys shine and where we as ford truck lovers shine, and the only thing we need to put the last nail in the cofen is THE HP
Starting in Jan of 09 I will be replacing my fleet of trucks, right now I have 31 F-250's, most of them are crew cabs, and 26 f-150's all reg cab, and about a dozen ranger ext cabs. I own a home renovation/salvage compnay who has expanded into more areas than I could have ever imagined. What i would like to see from Ford is an f-150 crew cab long bed 4x4, with a diesel. I don't need the 3/4 ton trucks I currently own, but for the milage I had no choice. As for the ranger, I could cut back to maybe 6 or so and replace all my others with the F-150. I love this new truck, but I can't afford to upgrade all my reg cabs for 3/4 ton giants, that's what I will have to deal with when the begining of next year comes around. If ford had the model I wanted it would be a no brainer. I now have to look at Toyota for my trucks, they are cheaper and they seems to take what I give them, plus they have the long bed on a double cab, which is just as roomy as my crew cab 250's. I would also be willing to sacrifice not having a diesel for the quality of a Toyota. If ford doesn't help me out I will have to go somewhere else. I hope Ford get's their heads out of their but and gives us the f-150 we all want.
Please explain how they are liars, and I have priced these trucks, and the bottom line shows a clear advantage to the "toy" you speak of. $31,678 for the ford ext cab (to small, way smaller then the tundra) long bed 2wd xlt, with the options I want, and with the same options a Tundra dbl cab long bed SR5 was $28,973. So who has the advantage????
The only thing I have to say is to the pepole at ford, I dont know were you guy get your info about what truckers want, I'v read some articules were you say truckers want towing and hauling performance rather than hp and tq for off the line performance well that not true if that were the case there would'nt be so many pepole buying after market part for there ford trucks I have a 2005 crew cab with a 5.4 and I love the truck but the performance on the truck sucks it the slowest of any truck out there even trucks with the 4.8 or 4.7 that chevy and dogde have and lets not talk about toyota my friend has a 2007 harley davidson with the 450 hp and 500 pounds of tq and we raced a 5.7 max crew tundera quess what we lost and he was so mad that he traded it in for a 2007 tundera I'm just mad why does ford always have too came last in that department why due we still have to wait a few more years to get something out there by then the f150 we not the #1 selling truck and by then toyota and nisson and every other company we have something better but I guess for dont care so maybe I sould due like many other ford truck drivers did jump the wagon
This IS the truck of the Americas, wait... This IS the worlds best truck no comparison. Options of the new 2009 F150 are going to be available some time in the fall. Like other engine options just wait. Tundra has been in the making for years. Look at fords Inovaion in just 4 years from the 04 model. This is Ford... A set of standards that no GM or other foreign metal pile will ever brake. This is Ford. Built Ford Tough.
I agree with all of you, on the f-150, ford sets the bar when it comes to trucks, but they'll wait until one of the others come out first, i sell fords and the diesel is asked for 5 to 1 here in texas, the s-duties are monsters, but the F-150 having a diesel would take ford over the top, and none of the other guys would be the competition, THE TRUCK WOULD BE THE ONLY COMP IN THE WAY THEY SELL IT, ford is typical in the way they present a truck, just like the STANG they'll never increase horsepower and add more engine combos, they let it go as long as they can, if they added the 3.5L 265hp engine and a true 6-spd to the Fusion, and a 6-spd to the MKZ, they couldn't build them fast enough to keep up with demand, like i said i sell fords for one of the biggest dealers in texas and i write basically everything down when talking to customers, and the diesel is a gimme, ton of profit and the premanent king, same thing with the mighty Mustang the 5.0 cammer 450hp, 6-spd, a 5.4l with 500 hp min, and a SVT of all 3 would be great, to bad most of this won't happen. The Asian Car Companies are still ahead in every cat, other than the truck and SUV expedition, but they can stay ahead, stop playing games and bust out the goods.
I am going to be retiring in the near future and am looking for a !/2 ton, 4x4, crewcab, diesel pickup that will get mileage approaching 30 mpg, empty, and still have some decent towing capability. Alan, if you can do that at an affordable price, and I don't doubt that Ford has ability to do it all, you will sweep the competition from the field of play. I saw what you could do at Boeing and I am expecting to see great things happen at Ford. I have two Ford pickups in my driveway now, a '71 and a '93. I'd like to try to squeeze in a third one - it's up to you, Alan!
I have to say as a loyal Ford truck owner for 20 years now I absolutely love this new truck! I looks better than anything else out there hands down. The only change I want to see is the 6.2L Hurricane V8. We are being ambushed by that piece of crap Tundra. They should take every one of those junks and ship them back to Japan where all of our jobs and money are going. We need the 425hp engine NOW not 2 years down the road when we lose the 31 year best selling truck on the planet award!!!
I say this as a former Ford Employee (3 years)
The Current truck is better looking
The engines won't be competitive for 2 years
Not competing with CrewMax
No F-150 tows 10k well, regardless of what Ford says.
The frame and the access features help, but it's all window dressing, and Ford knows it.
don't see anything here that will slow Tundra's market share gain.
The Ram is FAR sexier, more powerful, and interesting than this truck. Even a better NAIAS intro! The RAM will at least hold it's share.
GM and Ford are losing share, and I don't see anything here that will stop that.
Verve - Hit
F-150 - Swing and a miss
This truck was rushed to market, and won't be ready for 2 years.
The 2011 truck better be a Messiah!

I have only had one new vehicle in my life. That was a 1988 Mustang LX with the 5.0L engine. I loved that car. Ya'll may not believe this but I put 446,000 miles on that car, never rebuilt the engine but did have to put in a rebuilt rearend. Now I am thinking about buying a new F-150. I like the way the 2008 Ford truck looks, and from the pictures here I really like the 2009. In my opinion, Ford builds the best looking truck on the road both the F-150 and Super Duty. I also think it is one of the weakest trucks on the road when it comes to horsepower, at least in the F-150. Jim is right. Where is the diesel engine? Diesel engines are running cleaner than ever, have better fuel economy and tons more torque. Look at the Super Duty. Im not sure but I would bet they sell diesels 3 to 1 over gas burners. Where is a 300 HP diesel with say 500 Ft lbs torque for the F-150? Yes I know the diesel is more expensive, just ask any Super Duty owner, but somebody likes diesel. Just ask any Powerstroke , Duramax or Cummins Turbo man what they like. Put a diesel engine in the Ranger, Explorer and Focus. Don't wait until Toyota does it first. Is Ford just trying to hold its own against the competition or is Ford trying to increase market share? I think just hold its own. It's kind of like the mom and pop store that trys to stay in business after Walmart comes to town. If they stay in business, its because they have got to be better. The Walmart that Im speaking of is in Texas building some pretty darn good trucks. Yes I am disappointed that no diesel engine has been offered in the new F-150, and I'm still shopping.
OK It seems as if ford can't please everybody. But the new truck looks really nice. Ford has been doing a good job to make there trucks look good from the basic model to the high end model. you cant say that for any other truck manufacture. Have you seen a bare bone GM Or Tundra. they look uuuuugly with smaller wheels and there bodys are to fat. Also the 5.4 engine can go beyond 500 HP (FORD GT) so if they want to make it competitive they certainly can do so.. Not to worry Grasshoppers!!!!!
Put the diesel in there or watch Toyota take more of the market share. The interior looks overdone, and too much for a pick-up. I don't like the gauges either.

Front end looks great, the way the tails protrude onto the side of the bed is too toyota-isk.
The truck looks good, but you (Ford) really need to put a diesel into the F150 or you WILL LOSE market share to the company who does. I have owned Fords all of my life and I am true Ford Blue but I want a half ton diesel. Thanks, Jim
First off let me tell you I like this truck ok, not great but I don't hate it. The headlights and tail lights should go, other then that I like the look. Having said that there are a few things I see that can be a problem with the new 09 F-150. You say there is more power but the engine is almost entirely unchanged, I think 310-315 horses sounds about right for the 5.4. Now how well is that 315 hp and 350-360 lbft going to pull this much larger and heavier F-150. I have an 06 chevy silverado ext cab long bed 4x4 w/the 5.3, and let me say I'm not a fan of chevy's at all, but it's what I could afford when I needed a new truck. I have raced (red light to red light) many other trucks of similar size and power. Of these other trucks I've gone head to head with ford's the most, some w/ mods some w/o. I was beaten once buy a regular cab long bed 07 w/ a 5.4. I supose it's due to my truck being just a little bit lighter, but I could be wrong. Now as far as a diesel in an F-150, I'm all for it, but I wonder how people will like spending 40K on a 1/2 ton truck, with all the bells and wistles maybe even pushing the 50K mark. Ford could do us all a favor and back off on their pricing. I work in a production factory for a large company who makes constuction equipment. We build units that sell well into the hundereds of thousands and even millions of dollars. However we produce most of these items for 40-60% of the sale value, and in some cases even less. The line I used to work on cost the company about 150-200K per unit, but the lowest priced one at a dealer was 300K. You can't tell me that Ford needs to sell a truck for 50K to make a dollar, I know, well we all should know better. I'd love to have 300hp and 450 lbft in a 1/2 ton but I could never part with that much $ for one. Also who wants a truck that is so nice inside you don't want to get dirt and grime in it. I'd like a nice economical interior, with some extras, that's all. That reminds me of the comercial where the guys are loading rocks and what not in the bed, then they get in and one of them get mud on the dash. He gets hit in the head cuz the big tough guy doesn't like his truck to get dirty. In all I have to say Ford did a good job on this truck, the looks are ok, but I know you can do it better for less. I'll keep my eyes out for the diesel in the near futre (I hope), I just hope it doesn't bankrupt me.
Would have been real nice if Ford MO CO could have released this truck with an optional V-6 or small V-8 twin turbo diesel. Include stainless 4" duel exhaust (thats what alot of us will do right after buying it anyways) The economy and towing power of a diesel is what I am after. I drive a super duty. Not because I need the heavy duty truck, but because I want the diesel towing fuel economy.

Ford MO Co- PAY ATTENTION, CHEVY IS GOING TO RELEASE THE CHEVY SUBURBAN THIS YEAR WITH A DOWN SIZED 4.5 LITER DURAMAX.

I am a big Ford fan and I hate to see Chevy "one up" us they will run away with first prize if Ford doesn't get on the ball.
I love the new look of the F-150. I have a 07 now and its a bad motha but i wish the 09 was here so i can trade for it now. Tundra looks tough but it not that impressive, the interior is garbage and the little good stuff about it was all copied from the #1 truck
What is up with ford stamping crap designs into the tailgates? It started with the "superduty" stamped into the gate of the bigger f series trucks, and now look at the poor f-150. I would be embarrassed to drive away from anyone with a tailgate that looks that mashed up. Thousands of pickup drivers use the tailgate to place company logos and lettering. Ford has effectively made every single truck other than theirs more desirable on that fact alone. If I want a froo-froo truck, I will buy a Honda Ridgeline. I want a truck that looks like a powerhouse, not a cheap chunk of cabinetry. Get it together Ford!
nice, but what we really want is boxside exterior storage bins for fishing poles, hunting, jobsite stuff.
it can be done with today's tech and still have the exterior of the truck look sharp,,i need at least one on each side 40 inches by 12 inches will do,have them secure at 4 points with color keyed hardware.the first manucaturer to do this will corner the market.
I am currently watching the auto show on NBC. I will also say that owning a '54 truck, 5 '68-'72 trucks and have had numerous other and working on a new powerstroke, i'm a pretty big fan of Ford Motor Company. I am now concerned though with the way Gm is running awy with the industry with their flex fuel and alternate fuel vehicles. I know that Ford will still be an industry leader with their full size trucks and sports cars, but they could be the absolute best . I feel what Ford needs to do, coming from a western country living, mountain loving, adventure seeking family, is make their vehicle affordable to drive. Oil prices will now not go down and therefore makes it that much more difficult to justify driving. Where Americans used to be able to afford to fill up and go for an adventure in there F-250, now we have to take the minivan(not much of a man vehicle). Ford should increase fuel economy drastically. We know that it can be done, We are just waiting for our car company to step up. It's like being an Oakland Raiders Fan. No matter What you still satnd behind them every year, good or bad. Same goes here. I won't drive a chevy truck if it was given to me. My brother betrayed me by buying a Dodge Mega cab for the room. Ford could easily increase fuel economy and increase the comfort. I know that the engineers could buckle down. Bio diesel, ethonol, electricity, and hydrogen are all viable solutions. See what can be done. Thanks from all of us.
Finally, the new 09 F150 is cleaned up and looks much nicer, it needs a 6.0 v8 as an option also and a 6 speed automatic.

What about getting rid of the ford ranger and bring back the F100 as a mid size truck with a v6????
If you guys want more power then there is an F-250 and above! This is an F-150 that is fantastic with the right balance of power and comfort for the model! It looks aggressive and puts the competition aside! Great job on this one.
i've owned 9 ford trucks since 1976. I'm not impressed with the interior on my 2007. Was really hoping the 2009 was going to be a good looker. guess I was wrong. Have a close family member that works at ford and i get a plan. think my next truck will be a different brand.
Why in the heck does a F150 need 400HP?? Ford shouldnt' be worried about that.
Ford has the F SERIES, and GM has the Sierra SERIES. Not just one model, ala Toyota/Nissan.

If your such a power hungry, towing, hauling freak. Step up to the plate, and put your money where your mouth is. The PSD and V10 are what your looking for.

Quit pissin and moaning about a 1/2 ton truck being under powered.
Toyota have a 380 hp truck, I do not see you complain about Toyota Truck. As a matter of f
