Lincoln MKT Concept
Lincoln MKT Concept

Lincoln announced the MKT, a new luxury utility concept, at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. “The MKT demonstrates how else we could grow the Lincoln lineup,” explains Mark Fields, Executive Vice President, Ford Motor Company; President, the Americas. It takes the dramatic design language of the MKR concept vehicle and recently-announced MKS sedan and translates it into a more spacious vehicle.

The design of this concept features the dramatic double-wing chrome grill and full-width LED tail lamps that Lincoln-watchers now find familiar. Winged doors and a single-piece, transparent windshield/roof provide the bolder cues expected of a concept vehicle. Going inside the luxury tourer, Lincoln’s theme of responsible luxury is brought to life with the hand-knotted banana silk rug and chromium-free leather captain’s chairs.

Taking this theme one step further, the concept is powered by a 3.5-liter engine utilizing Ford’s new EcoBoost engine technology. The technology is a combination of direct injection and turbocharging that offers sustainability on a mass-market scale. In the MKT, this translates into the concept’s V6 engine delivering 415 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque that would otherwise require a 6.0-liter V8.

Just saw this awesome concept at the Miami Auto Show. This is the hottest thing I've seen in a while. The technology and the styling are exquisite. The announcer that was talking about the car said that they will be doing a production version. I hope they don't change too much.
M.Ramsey says (November 6, 2008 at 9:58 am):
I like the new mkt ,I hope when it goes into production that there will not be many changes to the body styles. And I hope there can be more horsepower and more fuel efficient at a affordable price
Mark Lendearo says (September 6, 2008 at 9:17 pm):
Excellent luxury car. The best I have seen yet. I hope to own one someday soon. I have never seen a luxury car so beautiful as this one. I want one and I am waiting to get behind the wheel of a MKT.

This is the future of luxury. I love the look and the smooth angle less flow of this car................wish i had one. Thumbs up to lincoln

I have seen Ford product shift from huge overhang, weight to fluent lines and power without mileage sacrifice. This Lincoln is a cut above in styling and like some competitors products, you either like it or not. I like it quite a lot but I know I'll never afford it. That is the difference that sets luxury performers apart from the crowd. Lexus, Infiniti, Mercedes 450, not all can afford but the desire is there and so true with these hot rod Lincolns we are seeing. I see more Lincolns now on the road than the Japanese counterparts so I'm thinking what an exceptional product that people are willing to part with that kind of money to get above the old benchmark. I think Lincoln is headed in the right direction with this crossover design. They(Ford) just needs to get it available and not hesitate with a great idea as was the status quo of other exceptional future vehicles that were late to production(T-Bird).
tim alonzo (ford retiree) says (August 22, 2008 at 2:39 pm):
when will they become available ?
jennifer ramsey says (August 11, 2008 at 5:17 pm):
i dont care what people think. this car is hot!!! evrybody who thinks this car is ugly is just jealous because they cant have it.. Great job whoever invented this car!!!!
Cajun_Mike says (August 18, 2008 at 4:47 pm):
Jennifer, I agree with you. I just leased a new Infiniti FX50 for three years. If this vehicle gets made and it's darn close to the concept, it will be my next vehicle. However, if they buckle to crybabies and do not provide any oomph to the engine, it will be a dud. The vehicle needs an engine or an optional engine that has a zero-to-60 of somewhere between 5.8 seconds and 6.9. If not, it will fail miserably compared to the competitors. Acura is coming with a FX competitor, so is Lexus. People are prepared to spend over 45k for a luxury midsized crossover vehicle, but they demand sport, performance and luxury. 20 inch wheels, true dual exhaust and a technology package that can more than keep up with Infiniti, Lexus and the rest. Like I said in an earlier post, the MKX is for the secretaries and such. This vehicle needs to be for the difference makers. ;)
jennifer says (August 11, 2008 at 5:04 pm):
this car is absolutly gorgous! This will definetly make heads turn! i want this car
cristobal says (June 13, 2008 at 5:16 pm):
Love this truck... looks able to do battle with the Infiniti FX.
brandon reder says (June 4, 2008 at 8:55 am):
The MKT will not replace the Town Car, It is a croos over based on the Flex's chassis
mike says (May 20, 2008 at 4:37 pm):
only con is overpowering front grill which detracts from otherwise artistic lines.much to massive
Tyler says (May 3, 2008 at 5:56 pm):
Now if only Lincoln would make a production version of their MKR concept, the MKT, MKS, and MKR will dominate BMW, Cadillac, Mercedes, you get the point.
Harvey says (April 14, 2008 at 12:54 pm):
this is a pretty cutting edge design to say the least---not quite sold on the short rear section part but all in all a pretty nice design exercise.....
Cajun_Mike says (March 17, 2008 at 1:49 pm):
well, according to Autoblog.com, this concept has now been greenlit for production. Kudos to Ford for going for it.

Now, do not dumb the concept down, do not try and cram a third row of seating. Do not underpower this thing. Get serious about competing in the luxury crossover market with this thing. That means, a V6 with close to 400hp and even an optional small block V8. Set your sights on the 2009 Infiniti FX. Make sure the Zero-to-60 is no less than 7 seconds for a sport version with 21-inch wheels. Paddle shifters, AWD, big brakes. Don't hold back. If you build it , people will come and they will gladly pay.

Also, please do not put some small motor in this thing and then say a bigger motor will come in year two. Do it right the first time. People who want to buy luxury vehicles want power and luxury. Let the secretaries buy the MKX.
DONATO RUFFO says (October 6, 2008 at 6:31 pm):
I AGREE, DO NOT SCALE IT DOWN TOO MUCH IF AT ALL. IF A POTENTIAL CUSTOMER IS WILLING TO PAY LET THEM BUY WHAT THEY WANT. NOT EVERYONE NEEDS A SEVEN PASSENGER. IF I WANT A FOUR AND AM WILLING TO PAY FOR A SPECIAL PACKAGE THEN LET ME. BMW 7 SERIES HAS AN OPTIONAL FOUR THOUSAND DOLLAR SPECIAL PAINT SCHEME AS A SPECIAL OPTION. IF A CUSTOMER WANTS A CONCEPT LOOK A LIKE AND IS WILLING TO PAY FOR ALL THE HIGH TECH OPTIONS AND A FOUR OR FIVE PASSENGER INTERIOR THEN LET US.

Hey By,
Thanks for the link to this site. I like the old Lincoln's. 61 is my favorite though I never have seen one modified that looked better than the original. Guess its time to roll up my sleeves and have at it.
The newer Lincoln attempts leave me a bit cool. I don't see the elegant, masterful persona these cars use to exude.

That show car, although new, looks like it was done back in the early 90s with a interior nod towards Italian design . .and the front end.....sorry, but its so over bearing it just doesn't give the rest of the car to catch up stylistically....nice tail lights though. Last but not least why does FMC insist that Lincoln compete in this so called utility vehicle market....interestingly this car is called a concept utility vehicle, but I'll be darned it I know where the utility is. Perhaps is a game and we have been chosen to find it.

Later, Lav

Lincoln, PLEASE build this vehicle in all it's grandeur just as it appeared at the N.A.I.A.S this past January.

This vehicle would be proof, that Lincoln does and can build vehicles that are seductive and therefore prove to the automotive industry and the public for that matter that Lincoln is back...
LeavetheExplorerAlone says (February 14, 2008 at 1:43 pm):
The only problem i have with this car is.. that it hasnt rolled off the assembly line yet!
