I have seen Ford product shift from huge overhang, weight to fluent lines and power without mileage sacrifice. This Lincoln is a cut above in styling and like some competitors products, you either like it or not. I like it quite a lot but I know I'll never afford it. That is the difference that sets luxury performers apart from the crowd. Lexus, Infiniti, Mercedes 450, not all can afford but the desire is there and so true with these hot rod Lincolns we are seeing. I see more Lincolns now on the road than the Japanese counterparts so I'm thinking what an exceptional product that people are willing to part with that kind of money to get above the old benchmark. I think Lincoln is headed in the right direction with this crossover design. They(Ford) just needs to get it available and not hesitate with a great idea as was the status quo of other exceptional future vehicles that were late to production(T-Bird).

Jennifer, I agree with you. I just leased a new Infiniti FX50 for three years. If this vehicle gets made and it's darn close to the concept, it will be my next vehicle. However, if they buckle to crybabies and do not provide any oomph to the engine, it will be a dud. The vehicle needs an engine or an optional engine that has a zero-to-60 of somewhere between 5.8 seconds and 6.9. If not, it will fail miserably compared to the competitors. Acura is coming with a FX competitor, so is Lexus. People are prepared to spend over 45k for a luxury midsized crossover vehicle, but they demand sport, performance and luxury. 20 inch wheels, true dual exhaust and a technology package that can more than keep up with Infiniti, Lexus and the rest. Like I said in an earlier post, the MKX is for the secretaries and such. This vehicle needs to be for the difference makers. ;)

well, according to Autoblog.com, this concept has now been greenlit for production. Kudos to Ford for going for it.

Now, do not dumb the concept down, do not try and cram a third row of seating. Do not underpower this thing. Get serious about competing in the luxury crossover market with this thing. That means, a V6 with close to 400hp and even an optional small block V8. Set your sights on the 2009 Infiniti FX. Make sure the Zero-to-60 is no less than 7 seconds for a sport version with 21-inch wheels. Paddle shifters, AWD, big brakes. Don't hold back. If you build it , people will come and they will gladly pay.

Also, please do not put some small motor in this thing and then say a bigger motor will come in year two. Do it right the first time. People who want to buy luxury vehicles want power and luxury. Let the secretaries buy the MKX.
Hey By,
Thanks for the link to this site. I like the old Lincoln's. 61 is my favorite though I never have seen one modified that looked better than the original. Guess its time to roll up my sleeves and have at it.
The newer Lincoln attempts leave me a bit cool. I don't see the elegant, masterful persona these cars use to exude.

That show car, although new, looks like it was done back in the early 90s with a interior nod towards Italian design . .and the front end.....sorry, but its so over bearing it just doesn't give the rest of the car to catch up stylistically....nice tail lights though. Last but not least why does FMC insist that Lincoln compete in this so called utility vehicle market....interestingly this car is called a concept utility vehicle, but I'll be darned it I know where the utility is. Perhaps is a game and we have been chosen to find it.

Later, Lav

I have been in automotive design my whole life and all though you may think I am being biased here because I am a true fan of Ford TRUCKS ONLY and Lincoln needs something out of the box. I currently drive an Infiniti FX45 and have had them for 6 years 3 total and its amazing. So its nice to see that an american version of a sporty HIGH PERFORMANCE CUV is making headway. Because certainly no other company could make one other than Infiniti. Dont take it personally Cadillac SRX GM cant make everything nice..... They have to make some total mistakes. In summary its beautiful and I would absolutely consider it. With some tweaking to the front grill (looks like a pontiac grill) and to large of a rear end (takes away from the LED lamps that should actually accentuate the rear focal point of the vehicle..GOOD LUCK

I currently own a 2004 Lincoln Aviator with only 35,000 miles on it. Great vehicle but no longer in production. I want a midsize SUV or CUV to replace it. I have new car fever now. There is not a single vehicle currently available from Lincoln that I would purchase. If this MKT were available, I would not hesitate to purchase it. If Lincoln says it's going to be made and gives a date that is no later than mid-2009, I will wait. Of course, Im' waiting to see what the Infiniti FX37 looks like at the Geneva Auto show, but if they are as ugly as the spy photos on the net, I will pass. Alan Mulally, get this MKT into production fast and please give us a version that has a zero-to-60 in the 7-second range.

Just visited the North American auto show on Wednesday and thought this concept was fantastic and a vehicle my family and I would seriously look at as both a luxury car and useful all around vehicle, depending on towing capacity. Your online pictures don't do it justice for how sharp it looked in person. I would vote for it as best concept that should become a reality. On another note I am a fan of convertibles and noticed that your display of Mustangs was poorly executed and devoid of any convertibles. Additional positives are that your Lincoln Navigator (long wheelbase) and your MKZ and Ford Edge are very impresive vehicles and I would consider any one of them as a future vehicle purchase. The one thing that disappoints me about all the manufacturers and all the auto magazine editors is that they think I want a vehicle with lots of horsepower. People drive torque. not horsepower. I pull my boat and my camper with torque. I never really understood it until I saw the difference in towing capacity with a diesel versus a gasoline engine in the same vehicle. Wouldn't mileage figures go up if manufacturers stuck with reasonable horsepower? Todays vehicles may deliver more "performance" but no better mileage than vehicles of 20 years ago. Best of luck in future designs.
