Lincoln MKT Concept
Lincoln MKT Concept

Lincoln announced the MKT, a new luxury utility concept, at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. “The MKT demonstrates how else we could grow the Lincoln lineup,” explains Mark Fields, Executive Vice President, Ford Motor Company; President, the Americas. It takes the dramatic design language of the MKR concept vehicle and recently-announced MKS sedan and translates it into a more spacious vehicle.

The design of this concept features the dramatic double-wing chrome grill and full-width LED tail lamps that Lincoln-watchers now find familiar. Winged doors and a single-piece, transparent windshield/roof provide the bolder cues expected of a concept vehicle. Going inside the luxury tourer, Lincoln’s theme of responsible luxury is brought to life with the hand-knotted banana silk rug and chromium-free leather captain’s chairs.

Taking this theme one step further, the concept is powered by a 3.5-liter engine utilizing Ford’s new EcoBoost engine technology. The technology is a combination of direct injection and turbocharging that offers sustainability on a mass-market scale. In the MKT, this translates into the concept’s V6 engine delivering 415 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque that would otherwise require a 6.0-liter V8.

Love this truck... looks able to do battle with the Infiniti FX.

The MKT will not replace the Town Car, It is a croos over based on the Flex's chassis

only con is overpowering front grill which detracts from otherwise artistic lines.much to massive
Tyler says (May 3, 2008 at 5:56 pm):
Now if only Lincoln would make a production version of their MKR concept, the MKT, MKS, and MKR will dominate BMW, Cadillac, Mercedes, you get the point.

this is a pretty cutting edge design to say the least---not quite sold on the short rear section part but all in all a pretty nice design exercise.....
Cajun_Mike says (March 17, 2008 at 1:49 pm):
well, according to Autoblog.com, this concept has now been greenlit for production. Kudos to Ford for going for it. Now, do not dumb the concept down, do not try and cram a third row of seating. Do not underpower this thing. Get serious about competing in the luxury crossover market with this thing. That means, a V6 with close to 400hp and even an optional small block V8. Set your sights on the 2009 Infiniti FX. Make sure the Zero-to-60 is no less than 7 seconds for a sport version with 21-inch wheels. Paddle shifters, AWD, big brakes. Don't hold back. If you build it , people will come and they will gladly pay. Also, please do not put some small motor in this thing and then say a bigger motor will come in year two. Do it right the first time. People who want to buy luxury vehicles want power and luxury. Let the secretaries buy the MKX.

Re: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln_Continental http://www.killerridez.com/1969_lincoln.htm http://autoshows.ford.com/204/2008/01/13/lincoln-mkt-concept/ Hey By, Thanks for the link to this site. I like the old Lincoln's. 61 is my favorite though I never have seen one modified that looked better than the original. Guess its time to roll up my sleeves and have at it. The newer Lincoln attempts leave me a bit cool. I don't see the elegant, masterful persona these cars use to exude. That show car, although new, looks like it was done back in the early 90s with a interior nod towards Italian design . .and the front end.....sorry, but its so over bearing it just doesn't give the rest of the car to catch up stylistically....nice tail lights though. Last but not least why does FMC insist that Lincoln compete in this so called utility vehicle market....interestingly this car is called a concept utility vehicle, but I'll be darned it I know where the utility is. Perhaps is a game and we have been chosen to find it. Later, Lav

Lincoln, PLEASE build this vehicle in all it's grandeur just as it appeared at the N.A.I.A.S this past January. This vehicle would be proof, that Lincoln does and can build vehicles that are seductive and therefore prove to the automotive industry and the public for that matter that Lincoln is back...
LeavetheExplorerAlone says (February 14, 2008 at 1:43 pm):
The only problem i have with this car is.. that it hasnt rolled off the assembly line yet!
Pasquale Longordo says (February 13, 2008 at 11:53 am):
I have been in automotive design my whole life and all though you may think I am being biased here because I am a true fan of Ford TRUCKS ONLY and Lincoln needs something out of the box. I currently drive an Infiniti FX45 and have had them for 6 years 3 total and its amazing. So its nice to see that an american version of a sporty HIGH PERFORMANCE CUV is making headway. Because certainly no other company could make one other than Infiniti. Dont take it personally Cadillac SRX GM cant make everything nice..... They have to make some total mistakes. In summary its beautiful and I would absolutely consider it. With some tweaking to the front grill (looks like a pontiac grill) and to large of a rear end (takes away from the LED lamps that should actually accentuate the rear focal point of the vehicle..GOOD LUCK
Bob Prys says (February 10, 2008 at 6:06 pm):
Oh my God! the front grill and the front seats are horrible! Please don't do this, if this is the future of Lincoln, count me out!
elfoxman says (February 12, 2008 at 8:38 pm):
BRING IT ON, LINCOLN... and Bob, go to Buick, you'll like what they have to offer
M Henson says (February 2, 2008 at 3:26 pm):
Please keep the production MKT as close to the concept as possible, both inside and out. If it is a warmed up Flex or Freestyle, it won't sell. Keep the 4 passenger version, let people that need the extra seats by the Navigator or loaded Flex. I wan't this car, please build it!
Corneliu Streanga says (February 2, 2008 at 1:46 pm):
Will Lincoln MKT replace the so popular Town Car? MKS looks a litle to short for the needs of limousine industry.
Cajun_Mike says (January 25, 2008 at 12:06 pm):
I currently own a 2004 Lincoln Aviator with only 35,000 miles on it. Great vehicle but no longer in production. I want a midsize SUV or CUV to replace it. I have new car fever now. There is not a single vehicle currently available from Lincoln that I would purchase. If this MKT were available, I would not hesitate to purchase it. If Lincoln says it's going to be made and gives a date that is no later than mid-2009, I will wait. Of course, Im' waiting to see what the Infiniti FX37 looks like at the Geneva Auto show, but if they are as ugly as the spy photos on the net, I will pass. Alan Mulally, get this MKT into production fast and please give us a version that has a zero-to-60 in the 7-second range.
manson elsbree says (January 24, 2008 at 5:04 pm):
Looks like Ford still hasn't found a stylist with an ounce of talent and time is running out.
Blunt Sage says (January 24, 2008 at 9:41 am):
This and the MKR would be platforms that will bring Lincoln back from the ashes. Keep the bean counters away and build them as is. They will be a showcase for technology and design that can flow down to the other Ford lines, Mercury in particular.
Mike Weavers says (January 24, 2008 at 7:47 am):
Just visited the North American auto show on Wednesday and thought this concept was fantastic and a vehicle my family and I would seriously look at as both a luxury car and useful all around vehicle, depending on towing capacity. Your online pictures don't do it justice for how sharp it looked in person. I would vote for it as best concept that should become a reality. On another note I am a fan of convertibles and noticed that your display of Mustangs was poorly executed and devoid of any convertibles. Additional positives are that your Lincoln Navigator (long wheelbase) and your MKZ and Ford Edge are very impresive vehicles and I would consider any one of them as a future vehicle purchase. The one thing that disappoints me about all the manufacturers and all the auto magazine editors is that they think I want a vehicle with lots of horsepower. People drive torque. not horsepower. I pull my boat and my camper with torque. I never really understood it until I saw the difference in towing capacity with a diesel versus a gasoline engine in the same vehicle. Wouldn't mileage figures go up if manufacturers stuck with reasonable horsepower? Todays vehicles may deliver more "performance" but no better mileage than vehicles of 20 years ago. Best of luck in future designs.
Rene Zoe López Pizano says (January 23, 2008 at 4:48 pm):
Built it! But do it for 6 passengers with AWD.
Chris Moss says (January 21, 2008 at 11:52 am):
FINALLY!!! Something that looks, and is what Lincoln should be. They have finally hit the mark with this one. and the MK R I have seen the MK R in person and it is an amazing car. Both vehicles need to be produced...just as they are. PLEASE LINCOLN... DONT CHOP UP THIS BEAUTIFUL CAR FOR PRODUCTION!!! This would be a MAJOR shakeup in the luxury market and its just what Lincoln needs right now. This car is simply Lincoln and is not mistaken for anything but that. Its sexy, elegant, and HOT!!! Move over Cadillac!!!
