The new F-150 works hard, and that’s something Ford wants you to know just by looking at it. “This is a truck. It’s got to look tough,” says Patrick Schiavone, Design Director for Ford North American Trucks.

Part of this attitude comes from the team that worked on the truck, which also worked on the 2008 Super Duty. It’s first evident in the grill, with its size and its wide chrome girders. “We call it Modern Tough,” says Schiavone. They then gave the F-150 a more upright design and firmer, straighter lines. A more pronounced fender further contributes to the aggressive stance of this working vehicle.

The rear view of the F-150 is also distinctive in its own right. Deep horizontal grooves evoke the design of the F-series during the 60s and 70s. Even without a badge, you know it’s a Ford truck.

Wanted to purchase an 08 F-150, Lariet package in Redfire only, no accent color, but was stuck with black interior. with 40/20/40 seat. Seems there was none to be found Would like to see a grey leather interior with the Redfire and 40/20/40 seat arrangement with seat control on driver and passenger side in the 09. Hope 09 team will take this consideration

Ford has to kamikaze the market with a blitzkrieg of diesel half tons that nobody saw coming before 2010. As Toyota sleeps, the Ford war machine sneaks up and invades the enemy encampment, taking back ground and sending Toyota screaming to development on the CAT tundra. The mighty CAT torments the defenseless tranny and pretzels the 2 piece aluminum driveshaft as Ford F150 Diesel owners pull over to offer what help they can to those caught in a trap of 60 months of payments . The Ford owners take their highway friends' kids to school, help them get groceries and give them canned goods but in the end, the tundra owner looks over and upward from his submissive (soccer mom elevation) position and hates the F150 because it is so hot and he knows he has many more payments on this feminine bucket of undersized parts. F150 Poetry is offered freely.

Funny how he mentions tough in the opening and then goes on to use words like luxury and styling.. they make some good trucks but to me it's all about drive train and reliability all around..

the new truck is ok . one problem i have is im a real world guy my truck looks good and works hard also. one of the biggest think i wish is a bigger creww with a 8 foot bed.my05 fx4crewis great .but like most peaple have said more power .... please bring the new boss 7.0L to the f150 . longer bed . locking diffs would be great . or an affordable fx4 off road with at least 6"lift and 35" tires. i drive my truck all week at work and off road on weekend with my dirtbikes. more room more power tahst it . let the horsepower wars begin

Come on ford you have it backward 700 watt radio and a 300 hp out dated motor why not change it around to at least 400 hp and then you will have a truck. Who need a recording studio in a truck an not enough power to haul it around.

FORD stop putting Pirelli Scorpions on offroad models, they are crap! Try some Cooper Zeon's something with some tread and longer tread life. My 06 FX4 the Pirelli's only lasted 20K miles.

Let's not forget that the real purpose of a truck is its utility value. When it's necessary, you can carry large, bulky items in the pickup bed. If the truck looks good while working then that's a bonus. This new F-150 does both. The most innovative feature is the fold-away step and assist handle in the tailgate. To keep the record straight, I'm a truck guy and I'm a Ford guy. I drive a 1996 Ranger 4x4 and my company still operates a 1970 full-size Ranger which we use everyday.
Fred Howard says (January 13, 2008 at 2:18 am):
I personally did not feel any excitement on the new F-150. In my opinion this has been Fords, problem since the early 90's . I wish FORD, would submit all new vehicle design changes for a vote by all employees. (Yea or Nea) Ultimately they will pay for the designs success or failure.
