Mustang with glass roof
Mustang with glass roof option

The Ford Mustang gets a whole new outlook with a glass roof option for the 2009 model year. This option comes in response to drivers’ increasing desire for natural light in their cars, particularly as their commutes get longer. It also offers a convenient midpoint for those looking for the view of a convertible with the climate-control and structural integrity of a traditional coupe.

The roof is made of specially-formulated glass that blocks infrared rays, protecting both the car’s occupants and its upholstery. This glass also reduces vehicle cool-down time by 50 percent. The model incorporates a retractable blind that may be used to block the sun and provide privacy.

The new roof will be available as an option on both the V-6 Mustang and Mustang GT beginning in the summer of 2008. This brings the number of roof options available on the Ford Mustang up to three. The model joins the 2008 Mustang Bullitt and 2008 Shelby GT500KR, adding variety to the Mustang stable for its 45-year anniversary. The glass roof option will cost $1,995, or half the cost of the convertible option.

lil' e says (September 27, 2008 at 3:35 pm):
YOU ARE SO LUCKY IF YOU HAVE THIS CAR! this is one of the most awsome cars ever and that would be great to own one. it would be like a convertable without the wind screwing up your hair. it would also be really fun to look up when its raining and feel like your outside but really you have an air-conditioned comfort zone. just put in a tv and a bathroom and i'd have a new house! : P____________<3 lil' e

Joe says (August 19, 2008 at 2:07 pm):
Dan, the modern 4.6 liter has more horsepower than the old 5.0... why would you want bring that back??
Varnum says (August 17, 2008 at 2:13 am):
This car is amazing!!!! i just bought one last week and the glass top was a great touch! that was the only reason i got the 09 instead of just getting the 08.
Rich says (August 12, 2008 at 10:00 pm):
can you say 1954 Skyliner, Ford still looking to its past.
I have owned mine since 1968( my first car )
Joe says (August 19, 2008 at 11:26 am):
Rich: I don't get what your point is? Of course they are looking to the past. That is the whole premise of this car (retro styling cues, modern technology)
Ebony Howard says (August 10, 2008 at 12:19 am):
This is soooo flyyy.... I seen the glass roof on the Scion, but not on the Mustang... I am at a lost for words... I absolutely love the concept, and will be looking further into getting a Mustang with this feature.
FRANCHESKA says (August 6, 2008 at 2:01 am):
I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED THE MUSTANG AND AS A MATTER OF FACT I WILL PLANNING ON BUYING ONE THIS MONTH...BUT SINCE I SEEN THE GLASS ROOF I THINK I WILL WAIT.....I LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!!!!!!!
Jenn Dios says (August 2, 2008 at 10:13 am):
I love it, its very classy. Im very happy its available for the V-6 as well as the GT. It makes it more affordable. I love it.
lil'e says (July 30, 2008 at 8:31 am):
Ok, doesnt it kinda defeat the purpuse of a convertable? Well, i guess its a good thing because it has the feel of a convertable but if your going somewhere nice, your hair or somthing wouldn't get messed up... i can't imagine how it must be cleaning bird poop off that! = D its worth it!
bree says (July 29, 2008 at 5:48 pm):
altho im totally 4 it, u cant get that wind in ur face feel....that kinda sucks. other than that i love it!!
Santa Cruz Ted says (July 25, 2008 at 12:44 pm):
Hey, Kudos to Ford for at least thinking outside of a hard-top! I like the look, a perfect fit in a sunny state (i.e. California). Those mid-westerners can stick to the hard-tops if they're worried about rain, sleet, hail, tornados, etc. If you're worried abut security and burglaries, don't get a Mustang (get a Saturn). My Mustang is only driven on fun, cruzin, outdoor days, I always keep my eye on her. Mustangs should never, NEVER be an everyday auto. If you want an everyday car, get a BMW (like I did).
phil says (July 19, 2008 at 4:29 am):
To the guy who wants a t-top: You obviously are not a mustang lover. Mustangs do not have t-tops -- never have and hopefully, never will. Hard top Vettes from the late 60's and early 70's. Trans ams, Camaros. These cars look good this way probably because they were made this way. 40 years later, it would not be natural. As for sunroofs on mustangs, let's face it -- except for mustang II's - which is the equivalent of those awkward, pimple ridden, years we would all like to forget. It would have been better if Mustangs had become extinct after 1973 - and brought back in 2005. Yes -- '05. I say this having had a real 70' Boss 302 (which foolishly sold and traded for a '74 Mach 1). See what I mean by those awkward years? Our brains aren't fully developed yet! I was still in high school and got tired of 9 mpg. I thought 20 mpg would be a good thing. I instantly missed my Boss -- The 80's were not much better and even though the 90's 5.0's have a strong following -- THEY ARE NOT MUSTANGS!!!!

COMES NOW, THE 21st CENTURY, my wife had to have an '03 GT -- it's nice; its fast; it's very dependable; IT IS STILL NOT A MUSTANG!! It's a Mustang's first cousin however... I have a Crown Victoria and a Vette.

COMES NOW THE O5's. THE MUSTANG LIVES!!! I AM NOW A BELIEVER IN REINCARNATION!! I'M IN LOVE AGAIN. I AM GETTING A GT500!! SUPER SNAKE THAT ORDER, PLEASE!!

MY ONLY COMPLAINT IS YOU CAN'T CUSTOM BUILD LIKE YOU USED TO. I WOULD LOVE TO SAVE ABOUT $10K AND LEAVE OUT A FEW UNWANTED OPTIONS. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE MANUAL WINDOWS -- I HAVE NEVER MET A MANUAL WINDOW MALFUNCTION. I WOUJLD LOVE TO KNOW MY TRUNK IS LIKE A STRONGBOX... IF SOMEONE BREAKS INTO THE CAR, I WOULD LOVE FOR THE TRUNK TO STILL BE SAFE, AND NOT BE ABLE TO BE OPENED W/ A BUTTON. IF IT IS A CONVERTIBLE, THE SAME W/ THE TOP. ARE WE PERCEIVED TO BE SO LAZY BY CAR MAKERS THAT WE MUST HAVE THESE THINGS? ALSO, I AM NOT A FAN OF A THERMOSTAT SYSTEM A/C. HOW ABOUT A MANUAL - ON/OFF, LOW, MED, HIGH? THE SAME GOES FOR THE WIPERS, MULTI-CD CHANGER. AS A CONVERTIBLE LOVER -- WHY ISN'T RAIN RESISTANT FAKE LEATHER AND RUBBER FLOORS AVAILABLE? WHO CARES IF IT RAINS -- LET IT GET WET!! WET IS GOOD -- CARPETING IS JUST GOING TO GET SOGGY AND SMELL/ STAIN, ETC. MY CAR IS MY HOME SOMETIMES. I EAT, SMOKE AND SPILL -- WHY DOES THIS HAVE TO MEAN THE CAR IS SUDDENLY TRASHED?

THERE ARE THOSE WHO WILL BUY A HIGH END CAR LIKE A GT500 SUPER SNAKE AND 10 YEARS LATER IT WILL SMELL LIKE NEW W/ 2100 MILES, NEVER SEE RAIN, ETC.

ME? -- I AM GOING TO LET THE VERY LAST HORSE GET A WORKOUT !! EVERY CHANCE I GET, I'M GOING TO SPIN THE TIRES, SLAM ON THE BRAKES --- I'M GOING TO ENJOY IT TO THE LAST DROP!!! HOW ABOUT A PAINT JOB YOU CAN SIT ON, HAVE SEX ON -- TAKE INTO A PARKING LOT AND IF YOU COME ACROSS AN INCONSIDERATE @!##*!!, YOU WON'T CONSIDER THE PAINT JOB RUINED BECAUSE IT SHINED LIKE GLASS!!

A REAL DRIVER'S CAR.....

ARE YOU HEARING ME FORD???
john says (September 24, 2008 at 9:47 pm):
erich is right. i even owned an '86 with t-tops 5.0L. the car would absolutly run
Joe says (August 19, 2008 at 11:48 am):
Thanks erich, I was about to make that comment.

True "car guys", the ones with gasoline running through their viens would NEVER... say it all together now... EAT, SMOKE AND SPILL IN A CAR!!!!
erich says (August 16, 2008 at 11:54 am):
mustangs had t-tops in the mid-80's...do your homework.
johnny boy lynn says (June 23, 2008 at 8:13 pm):
hey this might sound a little stupid compared to other questions but i live in miami and its pretty hot down here so if it gets hot one day, r u just gonna burn in your car or is there something u can do (cause tints arent so good)
