why wouldn’t you ask about the PHONE button before you bought the car—just in case??

Lisa - I didn’t ask about the “Phone” button because I also have a Lincoln MKX that has a Sync radio in it with the same “Phone” button that works. I think it should have been a safe assumption that the button works or at least had some type of funtionality, it does not.

“Sync my Ride” 2008 Mercury Mariner premier with nav system. Please?

I just spoke to a Ford rep about why my new King Ranch F150 Navigaton radio had a non-fuctional “Phone” button on it. I assumed wrong (….I know) that since it had the “Phone” button, it had Bluetooth capability. He said that Ford plans to introduce a add-on module late this year or early next year that would add SYNC my model Navigation radio. Of course, I’m assuming (again) that he is right…..

I hope that the Ford rep is correct Rick. I also have a 2008 King Ranch (three weeks old) that has a worthless PHONE button. It is hard to believe a $1,995 NAV RADIO will not include Sync or some sort of Bluetooth interface.

I have a new 08 mercury Mariner and was dissapointed I could not get SYNC with it. I knew 09 models would ahve it available but I needed a new vehicel asap. Will there ever be a retrofit SYNC for the Escape/Mariner? if not, can I go to the dealer and order a complete new unit to be installed in it? I have the Nav on my 08 model but I really want the SYNC, if they dont make it avalable I’m sure I should be able to go to the dealer and order it in parts and have technitians install it to work no? I don’t see why not. I mean if I had an 09 with SYNC and the SYNC would go all crazy and break, I should be able to get one re installed,so same thing, this makes sense..please advise thanks…and one more things, I have Audiophile system..why do I only have 5 and not 7 Speakers? pisses me off, thanks

I can’t agree more with the comments regarding newer Mustangs and SYNC. I have an 06 GT and have been curious if/when SYNC would be available, even as an add-on. I’m was suprosed to learn that the 08 would not have SYNC available. Mustang owners, or those interested in a ’stang would be a demograpic who would want SYNC.

Rob, your claims about the availability of SYNC is beyond that of which Ford is disclosing via syncmyride.com. Voice activated navigation is not the SYNC which is being supported via this forum. Please share your sources with the masses.

I just purchased a 2008 Mustang GT California Special that is fully loaded. I am very disappointed that I could not get the SYNC system in it. I have had a Bluetooth phone for 3 years now so that I could enjoy handsfree telephone in my previous Chrysler vehicles. I would certainly think that this high tech option would be offered in higher end and performance vehicles before being offered in your low end base models. I am totally pleased with my first Ford vehicle, other than the one missing important option.

Why isnt SYNC available on the Navigator?
Makes no sense why they’d offer technology like that on low end cars like Focus/Fusion/Taurus and not on a higher end model. People buying higher end cars want technology. Ford is always lagging the other makers in technology options. They need to start looking at other luxary cars and what their options are and include them in their vehicles or customers like me will look elsewhere.

Ford is now confirming that during calendar year 2008, SYNC will become offered on even more products, including the all-new 2009 Ford Flex and F-150; the 2009 Ford Escape; Escape Hybrid; and 2009 Ford Expedition. The 2009 Lincoln MKS will be launched later this year with SYNC as standard equipment, and SYNC will be added to the 2009 Lincoln Navigator. For Mercury, SYNC will be added to 2009 Mariner and Mariner Hybrid.

It IS offered on the 2008 Navigator. Sync is STANDARD on all 2008 Lincoln models.

It appearsto be an interesting and well accepted system.

This is something that NEEDS to be offered in the MUSTANG. No question. Someone that buys this car, would be More interested in this technology! Don’t dissapoint the loyal Mustang owners and future buyers!

I have a 2007 Ford Edge and want to know whether Ford plans to provide retrofit for Sync for a car like mine?

I bought a fully-loaded MKX 2 months before the Sync was announced. My dealer didn’t say anything and wanter $800 to put a Bluetooth adaptor in my car. This was my 5th Lincoln in a row. I am now told by the dealer there are no plans to retrofit. NEVER AGAIN!

Be careful with Fords marketing of the Sync, My Samsung phone which is less than one year old will not sync, my 2 year old Ipod will not sync, customer service and the sync rep tell me that maybe, someday there will be a softwear update that will enable my devices. I’m not holding my breath. Dont rust there printed material nor there website info on compatablity

If your cel phone has blue tooth compatibility, Sync SHOULD work with it in some form. That’s not to say that all phones will work nor that all features are supported on all phones but that’s a phone issue not a Sync issue.

Ford even has the ability to update the sync in a vehicle by the end user with just a flash drive. If your iPod doesn’t work is IT running the latest iPod software?

Some one please answer me why in the world Ford is not offering the Sync on the Mustang, this is crazy your best car and not being offered as an option

I suspect packaging the equipment in the instrument panel and steering wheel are the limiting factors in getting Sync into the Mustang. I’m not sure, but I’m sure it takes up more room than a standard radio. That being said, the Mustang needs to have it in the near future. On a related note however, I was dismayed to hear that at a local dealer here in Arizona, the sales personnel on the floor, along with the sales management available, had no idea what Sync was, what models it was available on, or any litearture on it. They referred my friend who was shopping at the time, to Ford’s website to get his own information. The dealer experience has to improve.

It could be because the Mustang sells well enough without Sync, so they are adding this popular feature to other Ford vehicles first to try to make them more attractive to buyers. That’s just a guess, by the way. I’m dying for a new Mustang but I really think I’m gonna hold off until they make it available with Sync.

I agree except, if you notice, the Mustang has a unique steering wheel. I suspect it will be offered on the all new 2009 Mustang but who knows?

The current Mustang is more of a low tech car (and I don’t mean this in a bad way) which, for example doesn’t have automatic headlights. Even the F-150 has automatic headlights once you get into the XLT model. The fact that they offer a Navigation radio in the Mustang though SHOULD allow them to offer Sync if they wanted to….
