I ordered my Bullitt in July of 2008 and it was at the dealership in a week. I watched the dealership owner call in his order for the car with me standing in front of his desk. Apparently at that time there were no parts problems. My car is number 5740 and it came with all the options available and I paid MSRP.

I brought the Bullitt to the attention of my local dealer and they ordered one, not specifically for me. I received a call a month later saying it will be in on the next Friday. I got a call on Saturday saying it is here so I took my 8y/o grandson to go look at it. After a brief test drive and dicussion with my wife I got serious and signed a few (dozen) forms. My price was 1000 above invoice and for some very strange reason, there was a $1500 rebate that day only. My s/n is 3798. Since I picked it up there have been 2 major road trips fron central Washington. The first to Medford OR, about 1300 miles r/t. The second was to Vegas, almost 3000 mi r/t. There are some very long, empty, straightaways in Nevada. 60 mph seems really slow now. I had owned a 68 fastback 289, 4sp, with Hooker headers until entry into the Coast Guard. Other than satelite radio, my Bullitt is basic. Fast and Fun!

I’m 28 years old French fan of the Mustang since I was 10… The ‘66 to ‘68 are those I love the most, but 2005 model is realy the one I’d like to have now !!
I use to practice Touristen Farhten on Nürburgring North Loop and I see some ‘Stangs there sometimes, it’s really a marvellous car, and the ‘08 Bullit is the best tribute that Ford can make to the original Bullit’s Mustang.
I hope there will be another anniversary model for the centennial !!

The 89 mustangs were fun cars but the 390 was always a dog, slow. The optional 427 wedge in 66-67 fairlane, ir comets were the hot ones, The 427 fords of 63-67 were hot, but heavy,not so fast. A 16 year old could buy plyounth race hemi in 64,for about 4,000 dollars, and have the fastest production car ever,it was very limited production but obtainable. The Max wedge was the hottest muscle car ecer, in large production,62-64,automatic was best bet for drag racing,chvy nova,camaro,396,375 hp was close, ls6 chevelle equal.

I’m imprrssed wit6h the Bullet. The original #90,mustangs were really Dogs, very slow. I’m talking from experience. The shelby 350’s weren’t quick either. The cobra was the hot dog of all. I was at the Factory at Los Angeles Air Port, met Dick Gulstrand, and Traco Engineering,in Culver City. My sister was a secretaey for Carroll , and my friend was a mechanic in Venice, where they modified the mustanhs. They were fun, quick, and really right for the time, but not fast. The Buillet now or any gt mustang now, is truly faster than all the old muscle cars, out of the show room,except the max wedge cars of ply or dodge, chevy camaro and nova, or 68-70,or ls6,chevelle of 70. Those were the fastest. All others needed modifications to compete with those cars. The 68 Buillet was a dog, it was just a movie chase scene, nothing to do with performance. The stret hemi cars weren’t fast either,66-71,unless modified. Some dealerships would sell you a big block chevy, pull the motopr, and put a 427,or 454 in it with the big hp,425-450,they were true screamers. So kids, fast for you,isn’t fast to a true or experienced, drag racer. And burning rubber is the last thing a race driver weants, making smoke is just show-off points. The buillet and Gt are great performance with 281 cubes, versus past 396, 427, 455 cars. The 428 mustangs ran ok, but still not equal to the before mention4ed cars. I had 2 gto’s they were great mid sized muscle, but not that quick, until modified Be thankful ford has given you the opportunity to have good performance now, Chevy might rule with new camaro with 420 hp, no super charger,get automatic for racing, get 4.10 gears, and 3000 rpm, converter. real hot,but car too heavy,as is challenger, but they will run good. enjoy,while we can

Tom, I agree with you about the ‘69/69 GT-390 mustangs being very doggy in performance. I know because I had a ‘68 which I made look like the movie Bullitt car. Heavy car, slow shifting 4 spd tranny and the long stroke 390 took awhile to wind up. I also had chevies, dodges, plymouths, pontiacs and other fords which I “time trialed” down a straight 1/4 mile track and on road race courses. Those older cars were heavy and needed a big bore of 427 or more to get good performance. They also needed alot of suspension and other work to really make them “race-ready”. I really like our #373 ‘08 Bullitt and it would have run circles around my ‘68 GT-390. One of my most fun straight line cars to drive was a very massaged ‘64 Plymouth Belvedere coupe (B Body) 426 hemi car, but it was not stock by any means (about 540 hp at the rear wheels) Ahhh, the smell of nitro methane in the morning at the old Orange County Raceway in Irvine, CA — I still cherish those days. Everything now comes in kit form, bolt on, etc — not like the old DIY days.

Bought mine in March, #2264 and love it. Lots of power and it wants you to light the tires. The sound is unbelievable. I get lots of compliments on the sleek and classy styling. Great job Ford. Used to own a 96 GT with Boss graphics, great car but love the new retrostyling of the Bullitt.

Paid a deposit on one this morning I can’t wait to get it Dealer said it should be in by the end of the week, they’re scouring other Ford Lots to find one, will make a great companion to my “other” bullitt, a ‘68 i had rebuilt to resemble the original. I think i can die happy now

One statement sums up my first 700 miles: excitement every time I drive. Thank you Ford. I have been waiting for this car ever since my dad bought an automatic 302 Cougar in 1968 and I had my eyes on the 351’s and 390’s with a Hurst manual. The Bullitt is is everything I was looking for and more. To anyone on the fence - move now while you can. You won’t be dissappointed. I find that I don’t miss my 300ZX at all!

I love the Bullitt, but be carefull. Ford is having a problems with the Synchro from second to third gear. Less than 1200 miles and they are rebuilding my transmission. #335

OMG I have a cherry red v6 2000 mustang but the bullitt kicks ass! i’m only 18 so cash flow isn’t good enough to buy one…maybe in ten years for the fiftieth aniversary. but i have found my dream car.

How many hub caps will it have, if I remember correctly Steve McQueen’s Mustang lost five or six in the famous chase scene.

Steve McQueen’s ‘68 GT-390 “Bullitt” mustang didn’t have hubcaps, persay. It was equipped with American Racing 5 spoke mags (alloy). The Black Dodge Charger was the one that was losing the hubcaps. There must have been a lot of retakes in the filming of the chase scene because sometimes there are hubcaps on the Charger that had been lost earlier in the chase. Plus, the whole rear quarter panel of the “Bullitt” car is really messed up before they ever show contact. Every time I watch the chase scene I see something I missed. gmpy47

I just Bought my bullitt and LOVE it!!!. Its my first Muscle car since i was 17 and its my first Ford. The power is AWSOME, even though its only 315hp, it rocks for the looks i get in it. Its a complete sleeper and keeps me inline with those state guys. oh mine is #2025

I’m back and happy to report I still have my license! I’ve managed to put about 700 miles on it since December! There’s only one thing I like better than driving it and that’s surfing and that has been my main distraction since April.

The car has received lots of attention, even from the beamer/audi/chevy/dodge charger folks. The understated appearance is what seems to bring out the most favorable comments.

The first three gears are very strong…. head snapping on 93 octane. It is very nimble taking hard corners… it wants to be pushed. But the tires are a little disappointing, not as sticky as I would have liked… that will be fixed. The ride is tight and would be a problem for me if I used it as a my daily ride, especially with the terrible roads in NJ. I won’t talk about the exhaust rumble other than to say it gets people looking, but by then it’s too late… I’m gone.

Planning to add a little more zip via a SC. Waiting for FRP to introduce a Roush unit that will fit w/o having to rework the shock tower strut. Design, I’m told, not yet finalized and actually may require a new strut. Need to be prepared for those retro hemi-chargers, which also look very cool!

my 65 mustang convertible is the quintisencial mother of all mustangs, I whouldnt trade it for all the audi’s and beemers out there. go Ford! were both looking good at 40.

Ford’s stock is at $10/share. Buy an Audi instead of this “midlife crisis mobile”.

How may German’s would love to get their hands on 2008 Bullitt and run it on the Autoban? Ford did a great job of re-introducing the sleeper muscle car that is incognito in plain sight until you light it up and lay down a twin strip of rubber (traction control off) while burning 87 octane fuel. Most of the Audis that have decent acceleration need premium gas to perform. ‘nuf said….gmpy47

Amen to enjoying your BULLITT! I would much rather drive my BULLITT than a darn Audi. In addition any one of my other vintage muscle cars would smoke the Audi.

I brought my bullitt back in March #3155. It has 300 miles so far. Anyone notice surface rust on their exhaust sytems? I thought the exhaust was to be stainless steel one? Also, does the exhaust sytem get better sounding with the more miles u put on her? So, it seem the same as my 05 GT was!!!

I bouth the bullitt in March, love the car. Has anyone put a supercharger on their’s or anyone know anything about changeing the chip for a little more power Thanks

I’m currently looking at adding either a HP Performance Stage II (67mm) single turbo, or a Kenne Bell 2.6L twin screw supercharger to #3518.

If you go with a TS or Roots type, you WILL need to adjust the strut bar to make it fit, period. Turbos and centris will, obviously, fit just fine.

Don’t run more than 10-11psi of boost without swapping out the powdered steel pistons and rods for forged pieces. You’ll royally mess up your engine!

I have had my Bullitt since June 2, and have loved every mile I have put on it. FYI, it is #2865!! Heads turn everywhere I go, and have only seen one other one on the road. I found out about a car show on 6/20/08 at 4 in afternoon, entered car in a car show the next morning and never did get it as clean as I should have, but took 3rd place and had an automatic 2 point deduction for no fire extinguisher. What an awesome first Mustang I bought….just writing this makes me want to go for a cruise.

Didn’t the original Bullitt have balls? What kind of pansy crap is 315 horsepower. That equates to about 250 at the wheels. Ford should at least mildy supercharge it and give buyers some real incentive. My 05 Procharged is putting 530 RWHP and makes this car look like something for little girls. Wake up Ford.

I agree with your reasonable statement. Most young kids today have no idea about performance. The top muscle cars from 60’s was the Max- Wedge Plyounth,or dodge,of 62-64,then the $09 chevy of 62-64,and Ford Fairlane,of 66-67,with 427 wedge. Then the 70 cheny nova,with 396,375 hp, and also 70 Chevelle,454,ls-6,450hp. Tne plyounth and Dodge had limited edition Race Hemis in 64-65,you could drive on street,but limited numbers. The street hemi of 66-71 were slow,unless modified.,as were most other muscle cars, like buick,455’s, ford mustang,390,gt’s. All those cars were 14 sec cars,unless highly modified. The real fast cars out of showroom were the ones i statted first. Most all mustangs didn’t run that well, even 428 was only 13.50’s the 429 was almost unstreetable, the Boss 302 was better.The camaro with 396,375,was equal to nova,or chevy 2. So, I say this buillet is a tremendous deal in performance,at 281 cubic inches,better than big block fords, dodges hemis,or 4-door chargers today,ugly 4-door. The new challenger will be awesome, but is too heavy as a racer,they will make lighter version for racing I believe. New camaro also will be awesome, but too heave, because boyh yhose cars use parts from existing cars, but I think camaro will be quickest with 420hp. Drag racers would be smart to buy automatic for racing, it will save you money on parts, and be more consistent. We aren’t Ronnie Sox,so save your transmissions. Automatic cars own the drag strip. Plymouth rules with Torque Flite trans, in 426,max wedge, the hottest muscle car ever,on par with Thunder Bolt Fairlane, and Ls6Chevelle

I second the reply to horsepower comment. I think the reason Ford produced (with Shelby) a 500hp and 540hp mustang is so that people who wanted that kind of power in their Pony they could pay their money for it. The Bullitt, for me, represents the thrill I had as a 12 year old watching McQueen pilot his 68 Mustang GT 390 around San Francisco looking super cool. I promised myself that one day I’d own a car like the one I saw in the movie and Ford made that possible with the 08 Bullitt. I think for those of you who never saw the movie, you just don’t get this. I don’t some you ever will. Great job Ford on this edition of the Bullitt. I thoroughly enjoy mine.

Yes the original did, as does the 08/09. Here we go again with the horsepower thing. This car is a limited edition anniversary model of the original. It is not intended to be anything more. With it’s engineering it is quicker then the original. It is 2008…not 1968. I don’t care if it has 315 at the wheels, flywheel or in a magazine. This car is a great ride…great acceleration…great trans…excellent/excellent handling and an awesome exhaust note in keeping with the movie. If I wanted 500 hp I would have bought the GT500 for $75,000. If I smoke my tires in a burnout is the smoke any different then your 530hp car…..if I go 150mph in my Bullitt does it feel any different then 150 in yours….so you get there a few seconds sooner…big deal. Tell me where you can go other than a track to experience the difference in the HP so many speak of. I am never going to hit 200mph unless someone can gaurantee that no deer or vehicle is coming in front of me much less the police citing me for wreckless driving and throwing me in the can…That being said I might tweak the #1144 Bullitt I own with a supercharger …..because I can, but that is no reflection on FORD and what they have produced in the Bullitt. Not every car they produce can have 500 hp like the red with white stripe GT 500 or the blue with white stripe GT 500 or the white w/ blue stripe or the black w/white stripe GT 500. You want a GT 500…buy it….you want a KR…buy it….you want a Bullitt….buy it…..but always remember….you think you got the fastest,baddest car…..just blink your eyes and there will be a car that will be looking at you in the rear view mirror. It might not even be made in this country! The DARK HIGHLAND GREEN BULLITT is the best look in a car as I have seen in years and the heads that turn prove it….

I’m a 20 year old soldier in the US Army, and dropped damn near all of my enlistment bonus (got in on a special program) to buy #3518. I saw the movie when the 05 came out, as my mom always loved it AND Mustangs (to the point where she owned a 65 coupe, and had a boyfriend with a Boss 429). Fell in love with Mustangs then.

So when I got my $40,000, I passed right by the bank, right by the flashy STis, EVOs, RX-8s, all that import garbage, and picked up my very first Pony. Hopefully I’m not the only one out there like that…

I’m 55, and feel many of the 2008 Bullitt owners are old dudes like myself. I drove cars like that when I was young, mostly Z-28’s, and was somewhat hesitant to stick my toes in the water again after all these years. But it was like a duck in water, the thrill was back. You’re never too old for a muscle car if that’s what you grew up with. Way to go.

Love the car, have had #4505 for about a month, 2100 miles and it just runs like a dream….had an 06 gt and there is just no comparison. thanks ford, have only seen one other bullitt on the road so far.

Bought #4858 a month ago, and I am in love!!! This is by far the best of the three Mustangs I have owned. This one has found a permanent home!

I am a proud owner of Bullitt #3964…..She is my garage queen….I love her and have only about 200 miles on her….i got her in April….this is THE BEST CAR EVER!!!!!!!!

is 87 octane gas recommended by Ford for the bullitt?

The Bullitt page says that the spark auto adjusts so you can use 87 octane without harming the engine.

The 2008 Mustang manual recommends 91 octane gas for the Bullitt, but it will run on 87 octane without damaging the engine. From my own personal experience, I believe my Bullitt runs better on 91 octane. I can’t believe this car hasn’t sold out yet.

When will Ford dealer reps begin the manual allocation of the 2,100 production run for 09? My dealer has my deposit but no one knows when I can order the champagne!

25,000? I agree, someone is dreaming. I got mine at Ford Employee Discount cost and it was still 27,400. I have read on other posts of people paying as much as 4,000 over sticker for these cars, so I know I got a great deal!

I bought my Bullitt 2249 in February 08 from a dealer in Springfield VA. It performs well and looks great. I have less than 700 miles on it and have recently noticed an annoying bird-chirping sound coming from the driver’s side of the car, which I suspect is either a bad bearing or ball-joint. It gets progressively louder the longer I drive, suggesting that heat exacerbates the problem. I am curious to know if anyone else has experienced this.

For gripes - what’s with the air-pump for a spare tire and the blinker signal “sound” (tacky)!… And I never got the Bullitt DVD, which I understand was supposed to come with the car.

Tom, if a noise is bugging you take it to the dealership and have them look at it, its under warranty. The trunk is small and the tires on this car are pretty big so that put a “space saver” pump instead. I know someone who bought a spare through the dealership if that really bugs you. Last, the movie did not come with my bullitt. My advice, buy or order the digitally remastered version of the film - the chase scene looks and sounds awesome! Have fun!

Finally, Someone realizes that these imports are costing us our jobs and homes to say the least. Keep up the good work Ford. I still drive a 68 Ford 390. 11,00,000 miles on it. American made. maintanace and care is the key. Nice mustang!! Have an 82 GT and a 95. I plan on keeping. thank you! Paul.

I have had my 5 SPeed 07 Mustang GT now for a full year and it has been the best driving year of my life. It has some great company in my garage with my 64 1/2 289 4BBL Mustang convertible with original Gold Annodized V8 emblems on it. It was manufactured April 2, 1964 and never left Detroit until September 1964. I wonder who drove my Pony in Detroit…. mayb
