Viva la Mustang! Giugiaro Interprets Ford Icon

The 2005 Ford Mustang captured the hearts and minds of fans and future owners when the all-new model debuted. But the proportions and design of Ford’s first purpose-built muscle car in 30-plus years caught the eyes and sparked the imaginations of a pair of the world’s leading coachbuilders in Italy as well.

“When we saw the new Mustang, we knew two things: It was the best we’d seen since the original, and we had to get our hands on one,” said Fabrizio Giugiaro, styling director of Italdesign – Giugiaro S.P.A.

So in early 2005, Giugiaro pitched J Mays, Ford Motor Company’s group vice president, Design and chief creative officer, on his idea to do an Italian job on the beloved Mustang. The result: Mustang by Giugiaro – a one-of-a-kind concept powered by Ford Racing technologies, marking the Italian coachbuilder’s first reveal two months ago at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Just imagine what its going to cost you to replace that one-piece windsheild/roof/rear window...if you get it vandalized or get rock chips in it. Gosh it would break your wallet. Like buying this car is going to leave you any spending cash when you're done. Nice design though. American engineers designed a muscle car. The Italian designed a sexy car. I personally prefer the sexy Giugiaro design myself. It has more power than the Mustang GT and I am sure it can walk circles around the GT 500. If this is where the new mustang design is going ... CONGRATS FORD. Finally a car that can compete with the styling and performance of the new Camaro and Challenger models! BRAVO FORD, BRAVO!

danielJ says (August 21, 2008 at 12:03 am):
This car is hot, but the Mustang is a true American Muscle Car - not some foreign sportster. I truly hope FORD is not headed in that direction.
Lea Ann says (August 19, 2008 at 4:52 pm):

i think you guys at ford really need to step up with yours vehicals, i mean only 300hps out of the mustang there's 4cyls that are doing better, it carries that pony badge for a reason realy open it up push it to the max for power and torque, and as for the focus realease a 300hp awd rally edition out in canada and the us while making them very affordable. i know you can do it you guys have the potential
Ponygirl01 says (August 5, 2008 at 4:00 pm):

Three comments, one; I have withdrawn my boycot. Two; how much is this hunk of metal going to go for. Three; What happened to the Ford 1600?
corey says (July 24, 2008 at 6:35 pm):
you all should have come out with this in sted of the 05 models i mean really the 05 model mustangs wont be able to conpete with the 2009 camaros comeing outnot even the shelby gt 500 well be able to you all need something more like that
Oyama says (August 13, 2008 at 6:44 am):
look closely, it somehow resembles the 2005 mustang, after all, the designers inspiration WAS the 2005 mustang. read the article.
Edwin says (July 23, 2008 at 4:00 pm):
Wow, this is beautiful, hope you build it.
Amber says (July 20, 2008 at 8:38 pm):
I WANT THIS CAR!! ORANGE IS MY FAVORITE COLOR!!
Taimur Tahir says (July 19, 2008 at 2:02 am):
I say that this websit e is fit for haven. the car is fine. looks great. looks white in color. the doors are made of solid steel. it looks like great wood work has gone into making this car. the engine looks nice. looks like about 1800 cc. one can make aobut 200 miles wihtout any thing happening to the engine. the reliability is nice much better than previous cars. ford is a good company with some good models and good engines and other stuff. their engines are world renown for their relaiblity and ability to perform under a lot of pressure. the exterior is nice the hood is solid.
jeffery alger says (July 17, 2008 at 4:33 pm):
i really like the mustang i have a 2007 now this one here is really nice and sweet the only thing i dont like about it is the glass roof take that away and it woukd be awsome.
Tyler says (July 14, 2008 at 10:59 am):
Wow i have to just say good job to ford. Now people you can not lie this car just takes your breath away, and the orange just makes it look even better. Now although ford is startin to fade a little they just kicked it up a notch, i wish they would just choose better people to advertise instead of the dixie sluts because i liked it when Toby Keith did it for them. Still amazing car and well done.
arobb says (July 14, 2008 at 12:24 am):
Ford has lost ground to too many other manufactures over the years. Aggressive styling, higher quality interior materials and good fuel efficiency are some of the reasons why many European and Asian car makers have been propelled ahead of our domestic product. If they made this car with at least the same current fuel efficiency standards, I'd definitely consider it over an Infiniti G37 or Lexus IS 300. But imagine the sales of this car was made as a hybrid like that of the hybrid Altima and got around 26-28 mpg city.
david says (July 7, 2008 at 2:02 pm):
I like the car but if thay used the shelby gt 500 kr engin then ther talking about a car
