The corvette you talk about hasn’t changed its body shape at all, different headlights and minor details. The fastest corvette currently in the market is the 2008 Z06 model with a 505-hp 7.0 Liter LS7 aluminum-block engine, lame for a corvette if you ask me. While the Mustang holds an 5.4-liter supercharged V-8 producing 540-horsepower. That sounds to me like it can beat a corvette anyday. The viper in the other hand has a V10 bigger than V8 thats able to produce a an estimated 600 HP but for a price over 100k and the new trans am? Ha its a concept model just like the camaro thats been taking an awfully long time to come to production dont you think? Ford Vehicles. Drive one. In the land of muscle cars MUSTANG is king.

Yeah it’s ok I guess, but it could be faster. I was hopeing to see a jet turbine in there somehwere. Maybe a smaller version of the turbine out of the F-22’s that puts out about 9000HP. By my calculation you’d do 0-60 ion just over 2 seconds, but so the 1/4 mile in less than 4 at about 600 mph (if you could get traction that is). That car would do well over here in Ganystahn with all the oil owners they’d buy out a ton of them.

Ford, I just wanted to let you know that you have a great car here, absolutely superb. However where do you get off asking so damn much for it when I can build one identicle to it for less than 1/2 the cost. I started out with a wrecked 2007 V6 (body damage only) for $5,000 that I stripped down to the frame. I then purchased a 460HO for $9,000 and had a custom supercharger installed for $4,000. I also had a 6spd tranny built by PTP, an axle and drive shaft from Strange, and I ordered a total 4 link rear, and ind front end from Summit. With too many other do dads to mention. After 4 weeks, which is less than what it would take to order a KR, I was finished with the “guts” of the car, then came the body. I was lucky enough to have a buddy working on a body kit with a local company who hooked me up with a totaly 100% matched body kit (inside and out) to that of the KR for about $6,000. Now I spent less than $35,000 on this car, and I have entered it in several car shows as a Shelby GT500KR, and so far no one has noticed. I have won several trophies and the car has now paid for itself. If you are interested with the #s on the car how about 766 RWHP, and 802 RWTQ, this is all on 12PSI from the super charger, I plan to take it up to 18 PSI and get about 900WRHP and maybe 1000WRTQ out fo the beast. This just goes to show you that you can do a car better than the KR for less than 1/2 the MSRP of it. Don’t be fooled by this machine, you’re not paying for the power you are paying for the name, you can do better if you dio it yourself. Yes it’s very nice, but why would I have paid about $100,000 for it when I have one for less than $35,000, and have well over 200Hp more. It doesn’t make sense to me. does it make sense to you?

Hey now here’s something to think about 1 out of every 4 sports cars on the raod is a mustang. I think no one want’s to be an original anymore, lets all just follow the crowd. It doesn’t matter wheather you drive a brand new “shelby” gt 500 KR, or a 80’s model with the 4 banger, there all just mustangs. I’d rather have a more original car than what the dope next to me is driving.

Doesn’t matter how you look at it Mr. Big is right you still drive a mustang, just like my grandma does. It doesn’t matter that you have a bullit and she has a 91 W/ a V6 they are both still mustangs. I’ll be more than happy to drive my 93 RFD RX7, don’t see many of those around, and I’ll be happy to blow your bullit away with my 628RWHP. That makes me original, and I know 6 other people who have the same car you do and they also have choosen to keep theirs stock. So it doesn’t look like you are unique to me, it’s just another mustang. I will say I do like the bullit option, and at least you didn’t waist money on a GT500 or a KR.

The fact that there are so many Mustangs on the road while so many others have come and gone should tell you something too. There are endless aftermarket parts to choose from to make your Mustang unique so it doesn’t look like the next guy’s. I have an ‘08 Bullitt, and I choose to keep mine stock, which ironically makes me unique.

Wow this car is the bomb, no wait sorry I mean I wish I had a bomb so i could blow one up. This car is ugly, the mustang is already bad enough and then they went and did this to it. The sould rename this car a suckstang, or maybe a must be a POS. I have been a ford guy all my life and I have never owened anything but a blue oval. With the new generation of cars coming out this year and the next I am starting to lean towards a different brand. Ford has totaly fallen off the radar with the F150, tundra now owns them. The small car market is a foriegn monopoly, but ford lost that battle years ago. Ford has always been close to the top of the muscle car segment but yet still falls short. Ford has got to do something to save us all from a total JAP take over.

After seeing the KR it took me about a day to calm down and truly realize that one day I could like those in the past drive a Mustang such as this in 2008. Thanks Ford company for making a dream of mine come true.

I’m italian and when I saw few minutes ago for the first time the pics of the new KR, well, i was speachless….the best good looking american car in the whole history, simply amazing, especially the red colored version with the white stripes, i like the front “killer” look, its just amazing, no words to describe it, i think i could sell all my family and the God to have it just for one day, just for one day!

To KR killer up there at the top ranting about his “texas street racer group”. Did you ever think this guy with the KR isnt’t a good driver? Lost by 45 seconds? yea.. I’m sure hes probably not a good driver. Actually I wouldnt care about loosing by 45 seconds cause the KR looks like a hot blonde compared to vettes that look like a pimple on a greasy faced kid..

Sorry for bringing this into a different conversation but the Viper isnt all that great. If you think that raw speed can win the race then you are wrong i will admit that it it is fast and one hell of a car but its traction control is terrible
If you take that car into a corner more going more than 65 (if you are a good driver) its all over youd be lucky to make it out of it without a flipped car.
Now i cannot see how a Z06 and a viper can beat a KR by 45 seconds. He would have to be a terrible driver or just have a light foot combined with the fear of a teenage girl taking fast corners

I am having the same trouble as Josh is/was I can’t seem to find a dealer that won’t rape me on the price of the 500KR. The dealer prep for a couple dealers here has been in the 25K range, it’s just sickening. I asked the salesman about it and he said if i didn’t buy it then someone else would. I said I’d pay cash and they knocked it down to $98,900.99, how is this fair? i want one for what it costs, not what the dealer want’s it to cost, this is a joke, I think I might go somewhere else and buy something that I won’t feel in my ass in the morning.

I’m sorry, but the GT500KR is just not worth $100K. If I had $100K to spend on a car, I would rather buy a Roush P-51A and invest the difference. The only people who will be able to buy the KR are those who have so much money that they don’t care how much it costs. I bought a 2008 Bullitt Mustang, which is great buy considering what you get for the money compared to a Shelby GT.

Just wanted to say “good try ford” I belong to a small Texas group of street racers and recently my buddy Greg ordered himself a KR I think it was # 611. Once it was delivered he wouldn’t shut up about it. We were all tired of hearing how bad ass it was, so we went to a local drag strip and racway owned by another friend in the group. I am sorry to say that his tree and timing markers were not yet operational, so I don’t have any #’s yet. We decided to do both the strip and road course, he was up against my 505 hp ZO6, and Mike’s 610hp Viper. Now on the strip his KR held it’s own against my ZO6, I only beat him by 1 1/2 car lengths, but Mike blew him out of the water by a good 4-5. On the track we had a stagered start, we gave Greg the lead starting position. The track is only about 2.25 miles long with lots of nice slightly banked turns. We took off at the drop of the flag and Greg took off pretty good, but by turn 2 I had him on my front bumper with Mike right on my butt. I could hold the tight line better than Greg’s KR, so on turn 5 (no bank) I blew right by him, folowed by the Viper. The Viper had me 2 turns later and never looked back. Mike in his KR soon dissapeared out fo sight and wasn’t seen until the finish line. We ran 3 laps which is just short of 7 miles, the other guys in the group told us Mike was well over 45 seconds back. I lost to Mike by around 10 seconds, but the Viper is obviously a superior machine. Since Friday when all this went down Greg hasn’t said a word about his car, and thank god he hasn’t, I don’t want to take him out and whip him again. The KR is nice there is no doubt about it, but when it comes to pure performance the KR comes up a bit short. It has plenty of power but the gearing could be better and the suspention could use some work.

You guys should put a 2.0 rotary engine in that beast, then you might turn some heads. Stick twin turbos on it and you’d have 900 hp easy. I know they get worse mileage than the 5.4 but who cares this is a hot rod. If you can afford the car you can afford the 100 bucks a week to full it up. If not the rotary then how about a 4cyl twin turbo diesel, you can get 500hp and a ton of torque out of one. Now I know you guys want a piston engine, but how about you cram a 502 in there, then you might get some attention, instead of “it’s still a mustang”. You guys are bringing up the rear on this and you need to get your heads out of your —–.

Just put a programer, and a super charger on a bullet, then I took it to the dyno. The results were outstanding 496HP at the wheels, and 481 lb ft, not bad for less than 40K Now why would you pay more than twice that for the same amount of GRUNT. Fator in the 10-15% of parasitic loss and you’ve got abotu 550-570 hourses, with 530-555 torque.

I’d like to ask if anyone else knows a way to get around the dealer markup on these?? I was at my local dealer and they said they can’t get one but they can refer me to someone who can help. Two days later I get a call from a dealer in their “family” and was told they would send all the paperwork to my dealer so i wouldn’t have to drive a few hours just to get one. Well i made it down to my dealer and got the paperwork to sign, I was apauled to see the “dealer prep” was $29, 833.55. I called them to ask why the extra cost was added on, the guy told me “Well Ford’s only going to make about 1000 of these so we’re going to capitalize on this oportunity to make some extra money” This is word for word what he told me, how is good business??? Ford needs to do something about it, after the mark up the car will be $102,361.78, now I can afford it but that will be the most I’ve ever spent on a new factory american car, even my ZR1 was only 93K, this car is just under 10K more. If anyone has any advise I would love to hear it, I would like to park one of these in my garage, but I’m not going to pay 1/3 extra just to get one.

New Knight Rider?

Has you guys at Ford ever thought of putting a diesel in the Mustang. I’ve seen several times where a Diesel truck has been modified and while still a daily driver will run in the low 11’s in the 1/4. I have a friend who did some work to his 6/0 powerstroke and he pushes 690hp and just under 1000 foot pounds of torque, that will push a Mustang down the track in a hurry. Just think if his F350 ext cab long bed 4×4 can run 0-60 in 4.1, what will that do to a Mustang. I know they are much heavier than the gasers but it’s a thought.

You know you have a point, but putting such a large engine would have some weight issues on the front end. Now I could see a 4.4 V6 diesel with 500hp and 700 torque that’s not much heavier than the 5.4. Not to mention you’d get tons of looks with that awsome turbo and exhaust sound. I might just look into this idea and see what my people think.

I want some real power out of this car, drop in an LS3 and watch it blow by a regular vette Killer Reject.

looking at most of the comments on here and it’s not hard to tell that either you hate this car or you love it. I was a ford fan for many years, untill the yota’s started to take over. Now I’m a yota fan, and it doesn’t look like there is any turning back. This car might be able to get a few looks from me if the back end still didn’t look so plain. Maybe redesign the back end so that people know they just got passed by a bada** and not just another stang. I’d also like to see the 600 or even 700 hp barier broken, if not shattered.

I heard Ford was trying to put a upgraded version of the V-10 they put in the super duity trucks. If they could do that in a limited production I would do everyhting in my power to get one. My buddy Nick dropped a V-10 Viper motor in his 03 GT after he blew the motor. It is wicked fast!!!!! The KR is a nice car and I’m sure Ford put it’s best quality workers on it, but the price is way to high. I called a dealer that used to sell only SVT Fords, they told me to get one I’d have to come up with a 20K cash deposit, and $79,566.29 at signing. With an extended waranty I’d be paying over 100K FOR A MUSTANG!!!!! Does anyone see the problem with that????

Rock, what do you mean by a ho v8, i know its only a 4.6ltr engine, but if im correct, the stock 2007 GT500 came with 500 HP, and this is supposed to have 40 more hp. so that means it will have 35 more horses than a vette Z06.

I don’t know if this Cobra is any more powerful then the 1970 version I saw that had the rarest of all Ford motors in it… the Hemi 428 Super Cobra Jet. I still remember that as the baddest Mustang I’ve ever seen.

The Shelby Mustang GT500 is one of the coolest cars ever made regardless what some of you are saying. The KR is deff. cooler but it wont be easy getting one if Shelby is only making 1,000 of them.
Don’t forget that this car is a street car not a stock car used by Nascar that has 700-800hp, or a drag race car that has 1,500 to 2,000 horse power which is just insain! Who ever tries to compare the GT500(kr) with these cars is not being realistic!
The GT500(kr) should not be compared to stock cars for the reasons i mentioned. so not taking those cars into consideration, the Shelby GT500(kr) is an amazing car that truly is the king of the road!

I’m sorry I don’t see anyone comparing them to race cars. I just want ford to come out with something that can compete with my new ZR1 Corvette. I am not a “bow tie” man nor am I a “blue oval” man, I just pick what is the best sports car out there. I get a new sports car every year, I figure I have the $$$ to blow so why not. Two years ago I had a GTO with the LS2, I think it was. Well it may have been lacking on looks but I never lost against a stock GT500, or a Z06. The car was great all around, I even kept it a little longer just because I liked it so much. Now with the ZR1 I am still top dog, with 620HP for 85K FROM THE FACTORY it’s hard to beat. I will have to see what Ford comes out with in 2010, then i will re-evaluate it all over again.

My Little buddy and I were invited to a friend’s house to see his new KR. He took us out for a drive, although I had to fight for the front seat, that back was like a coffin, all tight and cramped. We took off like a bullet, and befor you know it we we running down I-124 at a solid 150. The car seemed to handle a bit rough though, my friend had complaned that his wrists were starting to get sore from all the vibrations. After our drive we decided to take a weekend trip, so on Friday the 15th we set out on a road trip. We drove (well he did anyway) 1100 miles in 13 hours, stopping for gas 5 times and eating twice. We made it all the way to Tulsa, there we stopped at a hotel. We got the last 2 rooms, My little buddy and I had to share one, but that wasn’t the first time. The next morning we got up and checked the tire preasure, and our road supplies before we headed out. We found a long strip of road outsdie of Skiatook, just north of Tulsa, and topped it out. We were a little ddisapointed to see only 179 MPH, we were hoping to hit the 190 mark. After stopping to let the motor cool down, and get some more coolant from the slight leak we caused, we were on our way. We drove over to see the grand canyon, and a bunch of landmarks in the surrounding area. After we had out fill of site seeing we wanted to do a little “comparitive driving”. We found a small town that had a sign for a drag strip for “Street Car Saturdays” and decided to go take a look. Well for 20 bucks, and signing of the waver we were in. My little buddy and I were in the stands sitting together while our friend was out racing. He did pretty good against the imports, but was outmatched by several of our fellow american muscle cars. He even got beat by a STOCK F1 Firebird, but only buy a tenth. We decided it was time to go home and get some rest, so 15 hours later here I am. In all the car rode great at highway speeds, a little rough on the higher end. Love the power, but the back seat wasn’t big enough for me a nd my little buddy to take a nap in. Ford did a great job on this car, and I would recomend it to anyone who wants a good drag car and front seat comfort. Well Thank you for for the ride, now I have to go tell my little buddy he better spend the night here, we got back right before the snow hit, and I don’t think it would be good to go out in it. Thanks again Ford for the great car, Keep up the good work!!!!!

Hey have you guys ever thought about maiking this car lighter with about the same or maybe a little more hp? You could make the car out of titanium, or reenforced aluminum, steal should be a thing of the past.

How does Ford live at night when they are being killed in the sports car market? Every year being outclasses and out proformed by Chevy. I love the mustang, I would take a bullet for one, but it is hard for me to swallow being 2nd best, and even 3rd for that matter. Please Ford do something to get the real amearican muscle car back in the lead!!!!! I am begging you to bust out a 800 hp Stang that will do 220, and 0-60 in the 3 sec range, I know it can be done I have faith in you.

I like the new look but quit skimping on the power, give us the ultimate corvette killer, 1000hp, 1000tq!!!!! I’ve seen 1 of these cars at 2 dealers, and the mark up just about made me sick. The “dealer prep” one one was 38,000 bucks, now how are we supossed to cough up the cash when we know it’s not paying for the car? If i spend around 100K, I want some serious power #’s.

What do you mean by “simple mustang”? Those don’t exist anymore, my wife and I looked at some at our local dealership and they were far from simple. We wanted a GT but with none of the fancy crap. I wanted manual windows, and locks, no cd player, nothing more than a plain jane modle, they acted like I wanted the cure for cancer. So Simple just doesn’t exist.

Where exactly are you trying to go in this car? People trip me out saying that the corvette or a charger (with the hemi engine of course) is far better than a Mustang. Stop fooling yourself. Get you a simple Mustang with a V8 engine and go on about your business. Those behind you will be snacking on your dust. Please remember this is still a street vehicle and when it revs up it, it puts other ’so called’ muscle cars to shame. Stick to the original. Mustang for life baby!!!!!!!!!!!

Is there anyone else out there who smells a “snake” in the grass??? So what’s the big stink about this so so car??? Does it have AWD, or 4 wheel steering? Can it get 30 mpg, I don’t hink so, who’s gonna buy a car now a days that doesn’t have any of these things? We want high mileage, like 60mpg would be good. If ford is so intent on making better cleaner cars, why not introduce the H2O car. I have done some research on tham and it seems like a no brainer to me. The fuel is water the exhaust is water/water vapor, and you get good power out of it. I’ve seen several cars that have been converted to H20 cars and they run great. Ford get you head out of your A$$ and get with it, no one (sane) wants a high HP gas eater anymore. Bring me the H20 car that goes 100 mi on 4 oz of water.

Well, I was out on camp St doing some nice burn outs when all of a sudden BOOM and I lost all power. I got out and looked and my drive shaft has busted in two, along with a large oil leak from the rear of the motor, I can’t see exactly where it is coming from but it looks BAD. Well I guess I better cash in on my waranty this morning. I thought if I paid $97355.62 I’d get a car that could handle some punishment. My Honda Civic R held up at 8000 rpm for 47 minutes without missing a beat, I paid just under 28K for it. Man I am sorely dissapointed at the out come of this.

Sorry hunny my civic has 570Hp and does the 1/4 mi in the low 10’s, handles the road courses like an F1. So I think you need to re-think the P-envy. Oh yeah, and my warranty will cover the damage, it’s just to bad I’ll have to wait a couple months to get it fixed.

Just wanting to let you guys know that a 6 foot 7 inch frame won’t fit in your little car. I’ve had 13 Corvettes over the past 25 years or so and I’ve never had a problem fitting in one of them. But I wouldn’t want to be caught dead in a car of such low caliber, so I guess I don’t have to worry.

They got NOTHING when you compare that junk vette to the LEGEND SHELBY COBRA KR 500! And I haven’t even brought out the heavy hitters! The FORD GT and AC COBRA’S have carved out their place in history also, what has the vette ever done. Can you say SHAKE

What kind of mileage can I get for a daily driver like this? I mean after all it is just a stang, and nothing more. Can’t pass as a high proformance car, at least not where i come from.

You guys ever going to do a high end sports car? I’d like to see “lambo” doors and maybe a v-12. Untill you do that I don’t see any reason why I should lower my standards to the Mustang.

Man this car needs a biger power plant in it. Do some work to the V10 and try to get 1000HP out of it, then stick in it the KR, I know it will fit, My buddy did a conversion with the V-10 and a turbo in his 2006 GT. He dynoed it at 895 hp, and he’s not even a gear head, just some simple welding, and tweeking, with some adapters. But the moster# was the torque at 1166 ftlbs, we live in S Cal and have yet to even had competition, Vipers, Lambo’s, Feraris, nothing has even come close, to the “2006 King Cobra V-10″ He did it all for less than 40k on top of that, let’s see if ford can do the same???

The first thing I’m doing with my KR is stripping the motor and rebuilding with a new cam, turbo’s and nitrous, ahould be around 1000hp when I’m done. Then it will be repectable.

This car sucks, omg why would I want this under powered thing in my garage. Give me 800HP and I’ll park one a my place.

The only thing I like about the KR is the rims, you can scrap the rest and it wouldn’t make a difference at all.

I had the pleasure of diving one of these KR’s at the proving grounds. Myself and a few other insiders didn’t think twice about taking this hot rod for a drive. We drove a 2.3 mi road course for about 30 minutes just to get used to the handling of the KR. After we were suficiently warmed up we hit it hard, 7 of us going around this track as fast as we could for another 30 minutes. The car handles ok but could use some refinement, the front end seems to damn near drag the ground in the corners. As far as overal preformance I’d give it a 7 out fo 10, not bad for an “american” made sports car. On the strip we did some runs at 1/8 and 1/4 mi, I wasn’t to impressed by the car but I do own a viper SRT10. On the wide open 3 mile circle track we hit some pretty impressive speeds, I had a best of 177mph. The car doesn’t like to go that fast for very long, lots of wheel shake, and vibration. Factoring in the price, I’d have to say this car would be perfect for the guy who want a cool car and who doesn’t drive it very often, this car would be best in a show room and not on the street.

if you put 6k more into this car you have 940hp with good handeling probably good enough to beat any porsche ever made and with less cost much less and btw your porsche cost around 140k this car can keep up for 1/3 of the price and i hear its 0-60 in 4.0 porsche = not quite as fast as the best and not nearly as attractive as your aston martins and ferraris

The Bozo who is parading himself stupidly by using Jay Leno’s and Bob Vila’s name to make negative comments about the GT 500KR should stick to being a clown and not a critic since he hasn’t got a clue as to what he is talking about. He probably owns a Pacer and wishes he could afford a KR. But, Bozo belongs in a Pacer, doesn’t he.

Man you sound like you’d put a super charger on a 4.6 F-150, rather than buy one with a 5.4.

The new Shelby GT 500 and GT 500KR are real collector’s cars. Ford and Shelby have hit the bullseye on retro styling and there is no shortage of power. Stacked up against the new Hemi Dodge Challenger, which is a very nice car, the GT 500 still beats it by 75 HP and the KR beats it by 115 HP even though the Shelby engine is smaller by 41 cu. in. Muscle cars are definitely back.

Most of my time is spent out on the water, but when I take a break from fishing it’s time to drive. I don’t like high dollar cars but I do like speed. Has anyone thought about a stipper model, I mean not everyone can afford a 100-150K sports car. I want want a high horse power car with just the bare essentials, no power windows or locks and for god sakes no navigation system. Who need a gazzilion watt stereo, I sure don’t, and I doubt any of you use it to it’s full potential. Give me a 500hp car that goes 0-60 in <5 seconds, and cost less than 25K. It can be done, I have friends who have built 400-600 hp cars for dirt cheap, and used top of the line parts to do it. Now I want ford to do the same. The car is OK, but you guys can do better, and for less.
