Celebrating the fortieth anniversary of the 1968 Shelby Cobra GT500KR, Ford and Shelby Automobiles will unveil the 2008 Shelby GT500KR at the2007 New York International Auto Show. Just like its 1968 namesake, the 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR builds on the strong foundation of the Shelby GT500. Packing 40 more horses under its custom-designed carbon composite hood, the GT500KR is the most powerful production Ford Mustang ever produced.

“I’m proud to once again be a part of an historical moment, bringing back the ‘King of the Road’ Mustang, and collaborating with Ford SVT and Ford Racing,” said Carroll Shelby. “I’m committed to continuously upping the ante when it comes to performance, and it’s great to be doing it with Ford.”

The 1968 Shelby Cobra GT500KR was a mid-year introduction, based on the 1968 Shelby GT500. Ford added ‘Cobra’ to the Shelby’s moniker to help usher in the beginning of a new performance era at the company. The Cobra name referred to the new 428 Cobra Jet V-8 that was planted under the KR’s custom fiberglass hood. It was the engine that would once again vault the Mustang to the head of the pack.

“The return of the Shelby GT500KR further establishes Mustang as the true king of the pony car segment,” said Robert Parker, manager of Ford Car Brand. The Shelby GT500KR will be produced in an exclusive run of 1000 units and will begin arriving in Ford dealers in the spring of 2008.

Hey how about you offer a "Nice" people package rollin on 24's and 4 12's beatin the trunk lid apart. I'd love to see this ride pimped out with a hydrolic lift kit. Throw some neons under that body and watch it light up the streets. Just a thought from one of your boys down here in D-town Il.
Mr. Big says (May 13, 2008 at 12:50 am):
Hey now here's something to think about 1 out of every 4 sports cars on the raod is a mustang. I think no one want's to be an original anymore, lets all just follow the crowd. It doesn't matter wheather you drive a brand new "shelby" gt 500 KR, or a 80's model with the 4 banger, there all just mustangs. I'd rather have a more original car than what the dope next to me is driving.
Ken S. says (May 14, 2008 at 10:05 pm):
The fact that there are so many Mustangs on the road while so many others have come and gone should tell you something too. There are endless aftermarket parts to choose from to make your Mustang unique so it doesn't look like the next guy's. I have an '08 Bullitt, and I choose to keep mine stock, which ironically makes me unique.
Anthony Spendlove says (May 9, 2008 at 4:01 pm):
that is a really fine mustang you got
vern says (May 4, 2008 at 8:08 pm):
look you knuckleheads, ford DID BUILD A HEMI! AND IT KICKED THE CRAP OUT OF ANYTHING MOPAR EVER BUILT! If you have to be this proven to you go to the ford website and look through the engine sizes for the early 70s.the SCJ engine was a monster.
vern says (May 4, 2008 at 8:03 pm):

John M. Butler says (May 3, 2008 at 12:12 pm):

more like a nightmare
vigo says (April 8, 2008 at 2:50 am):
Wow this car is the bomb, no wait sorry I mean I wish I had a bomb so i could blow one up. This car is ugly, the mustang is already bad enough and then they went and did this to it. The sould rename this car a suckstang, or maybe a must be a POS. I have been a ford guy all my life and I have never owened anything but a blue oval. With the new generation of cars coming out this year and the next I am starting to lean towards a different brand. Ford has totaly fallen off the radar with the F150, tundra now owns them. The small car market is a foriegn monopoly, but ford lost that battle years ago. Ford has always been close to the top of the muscle car segment but yet still falls short. Ford has got to do something to save us all from a total JAP take over.
danny says (April 27, 2008 at 9:26 pm):
shut up that car is the bomb
Shelby says (April 7, 2008 at 10:57 pm):
Ever since I was born, me and my dad have been obsessed with Shelby's models (hence my name). And these new models could not be any better, this is fantastic! I can't wait 'til I can see one of the Shelby GT500KR!!!!!!!
Anonymous says (April 5, 2008 at 12:49 pm):
