Chip Foose and Ford Design the Toughest F150 Ever

“Overhaulin’” star Chip Foose—Hot Rod Hall of Fame’s youngest inductee and Hollywood’s custom vehicle builder of choice—makes his stamp on a Ford favorite by designing the 2008 Ford F-150 Foose edition. Foose’s design visually lowers the truck, giving some hot rod style to the iconic American pickup.

At last year’s Specialty Equipment Marketing Association Association convention, the Ford truck team issued Foose a challenge: “We asked [him] to design a tough, muscular street rod based on the Ford F-150 FX2 Sport pickup that will knock the socks off even the most hard-core boulevard cruiser fan,” says Ben Poore, Ford Truck group marketing manager. “And let’s make it available in less than a year before the 2007 SEMA show.” The process was easier than it sounds, Foose says, because he had a great canvas – the Ford F-150 – to work with. It was also a labor of love. Chip Foose’s personal primary ride is a souped-up 2005 Ford F-150 Lariat.

Less than five months later, Ford and Foose are revealing the low-slung, production-intent Ford F-150 Foose Edition show truck, a precursor to the truck that will bow in the fall of 2007 as the most powerful and fastest half-ton production truck on the planet. The intercooled, supercharged Triton® V-8 pumps out 450 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 500 pounds-foot of torque at 4,000 rpm.

The 2008 Ford F-150 Foose Edition will begin life as an FX2 Sport model from the Kansas City Assembly Plant. The unique Foose elements will be customized at a modification center before being shipped to Ford dealers. The truck will go on sale by early 2008.

I've owned a great number of performance vehicles, even trucks. Recently, I owned a Dodge Daytona w/ Factory headers, ram cool air intake, Magna flow pipes, and mod. suspension in 4 x 4. BUT, I agree w/ an earlier comment, weight/size is the enemy. Too many large trucks that require large engines for power. Update the Ranger and put the mustang engine in it. Good performance - Good fuel economy - (5 speed please) less competitors in the market place. For a limited addition, a 4.6 SC w/ 420HP, 20" wheels, posi-T 3.73, cat back exhaust, lower suspension and GREAT SHOCKS, engine bracing, LG anti-sway bars...HOT Paint! would be a great project for Steeda.

bmillw says (November 13, 2008 at 7:06 pm):
O.k, here's the deal with this truck. I am one of the mechanics that installed the supercharger system. The engine is the standard 5.4 Triton. The supercharger is from Roush, not Saleen like someone posted. The reason the suspension is not lowered like the original show truck is that Ford had some durability issues with it, so they decided to use the same suspension, front and rear, as the Harley Davidson F-150. You have to remember that this is still a production truck and due to delays between Ford and the company I worked for we had very little time to assemble these trucks. I agree that a lowered suspension looked better. Hope this sheds a little light on these trucks.

i have an 07 FX2 Sport, i don't suppose there is any way of getting this upgrade done to mine is there. i saw one of these in my home town this morning and really loved the look with the look. i had never heard of it until then so i naturally had to google it.

NIIICE!!!
James says (October 14, 2008 at 10:11 pm):
Man, I agree that they need to bring back the lightning.
Proud owner of one. says (October 14, 2008 at 9:23 pm):
I did take the plunge and bought one. When i got it i was surprized to see it did not have the stance of the one shown at the auto show photos. When i asked Chip Foose about the differences i found he said it was up to Ford weither or not they followed the exact rendurings or not. So since then i have had a Roush lower kit put in and a couple of other things like a Leer cover and bed rug and now it looks real cool. Oh the other thing cool about it is the fact that my wife really likes it also. Look out when going down the road because it is truely very fast and you do not really think you are going as fast as you think.
ashley says (October 14, 2008 at 2:03 pm):

HUGO the ex-ford engineer, its a good thing you retired
ford hasn't manufactured the 5.8L for over ten years now. last year was a 97 f250. Get your facts straight before you post. and i agree they need to install rear sway bars from the factory. Its a great lookin truck and i wish i could afford one.
Anonymous says (September 25, 2008 at 9:23 am):
this truck is sick, id love to test drive it any day and claim it as my own. keep up the good work
HUGO says (September 24, 2008 at 2:01 pm):
IM AN EX-FORD ENGINEER AND THE 2008 FOOSE F150 HAS AN 5.8L V8.
rusty says (November 22, 2008 at 9:49 pm):
hugo, u r an idiot ford hasn't used the 5.8 in anything for quite some time.
Anonymous says (November 16, 2008 at 11:58 pm):
no wonder your an ex-ford engineer
powerstroke says (October 4, 2008 at 1:44 pm):
No, this has the standard 5.4L 24-V Triton V8. They just put a Saleen Inter-Cooled Supercharger and a custom catback dual exhaust to get it that 450hp and 500lb.-ft. When I turn 16 I hope I can afford one of these bad boys.
scott bickert says (September 23, 2008 at 10:42 pm):
This is a sweet ride what is the total production like how many made. Does anyone know???
proud owner of one says (October 14, 2008 at 9:15 pm):
1500 made for production in north america and canada.
Anonymous says (September 23, 2008 at 12:53 pm):
It's a 5.4L triton V8. Always has been. It's the same engine that's in the Shelby mustangs.
Anonymous says (October 26, 2008 at 7:25 am):
They all have the same 5.4 motor. The difference is the bolt on parts and tuning. And for those who don't know moters , a 5.4 and the 4.6 is the same core block. This truck turns more power than the Lightning and the Cobra R did.
