Ford and the hip-hop guru of car customization DJ Funkmaster Flex are turning the Funkmaster’s red hot Ford Expedition concept into a limited-edition production SUV. The stylized version of the full-sized SUV, dubbed the 2008 Ford Expedition Funkmaster Flex Edition, will hit Ford dealer showrooms this fall.

“Once Ford and I finished the concept Expedition, we knew we had something serious! It was poppin’!” said Funkmaster Flex. “We then started showing it at auto shows, to dealers and to my fans and realized we hit on some themes that we could turn into a limited-edition production ride.”

“Funkmaster Flex is finding ways to connect with new customers,” said Barry Engle, general manager, Ford Division Marketing. “He is a perfect fit for the Ford brand because he brings so much energy and enthusiasm to the table. He knows what customers want and he can really deliver.”

Ford research shows that nearly half of all new-vehicle buyers are adding unique touches to their vehicles and Expedition is no exception. Funkmaster Flex, a major influence in hip hop culture, has developed a young fan base of urban automotive enthusiasts who take pride in their personal style. Last year, Ford opened its Dearborn design studio doors to Funkmaster Flex to look at how to customize the new Expedition. Flex went to work with Ford designers to create an expressive concept that delivered the Expedition’s SUV authenticity with a unique urban style and presence.

The limited-edition run of Expedition Funkmaster Flex Edition, based on the existing short wheelbase, Limited model, will arrive at dealerships in the fall of 2007.

FMF owner says (August 25, 2008 at 1:23 pm):
just got it, LOVE it, rides amazing! All the FMFs do not have all the same features, mine doesn't have these wheels, but a different chrome rim...I love the navi system and the red painted interior pieces...
c r says (August 10, 2008 at 11:45 am):
I just got it and it's the bomb. I'ts not the FMF package but it has all the features I was looking for like rear camera and DVD Player and Navigation with touchscreen and beautiful colors. 0% interest and low payments i'm all for it. I know gas price is high but this is not bad for the size it has. Please do not call it an ugly box because it is a great family box...lol
Fabian says (April 26, 2008 at 5:52 pm):
Ford......you just do not get it.....
Ghetto is not good.
enough with the flex idea, it is jus a square box with expensive and ugly wheels.
Debbie says (May 14, 2008 at 10:41 pm):
Fabian, I drove this vehicle today.......awesome. By the way the Element and the Scion are UGLY Square boxes. Your comment shows you've never driven this vehicle.
rhond lunceford says (March 4, 2008 at 4:16 pm):

Anonymous says (February 13, 2008 at 7:32 pm):
awesome, now theres a cool car for the people who like a little extra
Michael says (January 19, 2008 at 6:56 pm):
Im sorry, but this truck is freakin ugly! come on, orange and black is ok but not for a family truck, how many soccer moms are you going ot see driving this, i saw this truck in person at the dealership today and i was laughing my tokus off. its a halloween prank right, look nothing against f.m.f but come on, the only reason he backed this ford was because he got paid a bag load to endorse this truck. come on ford how about a cheaper jacked up f-150 or a cheaper jacked up f-250 that the younger crowd can afford.
Tony says (January 16, 2008 at 12:01 am):
Where is the MCLOVIN version?
JAHZEEL ADAME says (January 3, 2008 at 6:55 pm):
LOVE THE PAINT SCHEME... WUZ UP WITH THE RIMS? THEY LOOK LIKE HUBCAPS. THIS TRUCK COULD USE SOME MORE TECHNOLOGY INSIDE OF ITS CAB.
DreDee says (July 24, 2007 at 9:59 pm):
In Response to Chris S.,

Yea I think Ford need to get on the ball also with the Focus, I have a 2000 ZX3 along with a supercharged 95 mustang myself & I've been waiting for them to at least come out with a Turbo charged Cosworth version of the focus....It's a great platform and once again ford is sleeping on it like they do with all good things.
Jimmy says (June 30, 2007 at 3:53 pm):
I'm sorry but its not a great looking truck all ya'll did was use the old body from that bigger truck you had that you stop makring and I don't like nuthin about it FORD was doing great but this truck will most likely be worthless
Ben says (June 27, 2007 at 9:26 pm):
I find it amusing that people are complaining about the price of gas after an auto manufacturer designs a great looking concept vehicle. If you desire "making the Focus a real player" this vehicle is not for you, DON’T BUY IT!! Buy an eight thousand dollar Kia. If you appreciate outstanding design, and don't have to worry about the cost of gasoline; you'll be with me in hoping this vehicle goes to production.
Junooni says (June 25, 2007 at 11:01 am):
this is wat the big 3s need, bringing hip-hop culture into rides
Marco says (June 15, 2007 at 1:57 pm):
Yeah looks great. This is something I really need.
This will look great parked in my driveway each day as
I ride my bicycle to work and around town. Since the boys at Ford wont catch on for at
least another 7yrs (that the current design cycle time)
I'm sure this baby will be getting at least 12-14mpg. How sad. Not since Jimmy Carter forced better gas
milage from 5mpg to 15mpg in the late 70's has the (Formaly big 3) raised the bar on their own.

You got one thing going for you though, you won't get any competition from the foreign guys. They
know better.
Chris S. says (June 12, 2007 at 1:19 pm):
What a waste of time and money. Spending money on a niche vehicle that has little staying power with $3 a gallon gas. How about investing that money into making the next Focus a real player???
ejoesama says (June 2, 2007 at 9:05 am):
great looking truck, wish it was lowered even more, also the supercharged v-8 would be nice as well
Alfred Gemler says (May 16, 2007 at 9:31 am):
Style may be ok,but why not concentrate on fuel consumption ?After all how many hip hop artists will switch from Mercedes,BMW Jags to Ford trucks or SUVs
Christian Trent says (May 15, 2007 at 6:02 pm):
This ford expedition is very nice. I mean just look at it. Two tone outside color. Black and orange. That is very cool. The interior is also cool with the orange dash board and the FMF logos in the seat head rest. The thing that I don't like about this expedition is the rims. Instead of those rims they should put 5-8 spoke TIS or DUB rims. I can't wait to get my hands on this expedition. This will be a big impact on the hip hop generation and the younger generation. I really like this. Can't wait to test drive it. Hope the price is right!
Bennie Hicks says (April 26, 2007 at 9:33 am):
Over all I like the FMF Expe, especially The Interior with the very cool FMF logo in the seats. I would like it better if the contrast line came forward instead of going over the hood. Other contrasting color combos would be good too, like metallic blue or red on top over silver or gold on the bottom similar to the Shelby Expe showtruck from a few years back. Big 4.5" or 5" dual exhaust tips out the back one on each side of the spare would give it that muscle car look. Some better looking wheels are needed also. Something like the '02 or '03 Harley wheels in 22" (chrome and a slightly concaved face), not too big or too small. The new Harley wheels are 22"s but they look too much like regular 150 or Expe wheels just bigger. Some new wheels like the '96 or '97 Mustang GT with a machined finish done up in 22s would be cool too. Optional carbon fiber trim. Also keep the price out of the stratosphere like most of the other customs, sort of like a sportier alternative to the XLT or Eddie Bauer ( STX or FX2/4).
