Could you not bring over a diesel version of this vehicle which I feel sure would sell like hot cakes to those of us who want a roomy car with good economy?!! The Freestyle was a nice vehicle but you never marketed it, and you didn't offer a range of engines like you would have done in Europe. The times are a changing and you you people are not keeping up with the changes over here.

This car is a solid honest vehicle--I hope Ford can find a way to keep this thing alive. Trying to make station wagons appealing has always been a chore I'm sure. The new design from the Freestyle was a step up for sure--even though that design was fine in my book (hated the name Freestyle though) I say jack it up a notch and call it the new Expedition!

Why does Ford not advertise the Taurus X? It must be given more exposure. I own a 2005 Freestyle and think it is a great vehicle. Since we don't make the Van anymore , this is a great substitute. Even the Freestyle was never exposed to the public . In fact the name plate was confusing (with the Freestar)Who ever coined this name, made a blunder. A new vehicle should have had a unique name to go with it. Even my fellow retirees kept referring to it as the Freestar. I certainly don't see any TV exposure.

I LOVE this new Taurus X! Yes, I would agree that the name is a little less to be desired (why not just "Crossover"). We have looked at mini-vans and all sizes of the SUV's from 6 different manufactures and this is the ONLY vehicle that my husband (who is 6'4" and a double amputee) could easily get in and out of and then the added benefit of the drop down floor boards for your feet is GREAT!! I personally like that it is more like a car, than a van. Keep up the great work Ford!

Why is Ford making these hideous creations?

As a thirty year old with no kids, I have no choice but to look at the Japanese cars. Besides the Mustang, there is not a single Ford vehicle I would be proud to own right now. And that hurts to say, having previously owned a Taurus SHO, 5.0 Mustang, and two Thunderbirds.

Get rid of this yuppie design team you have Ford, and quit thinking that everyone wants a "Crossover", to me they are nothing more than a wally wagon space ship.

Please change the name from Taurus x anything but Taurus, it does not attract the family man with children, or anyone else for that matter!! We thought the name Freestyle was perfect for this great vehicle, why would you want to change it?

I wonder why no American auto maker wants to make a family style station wagon! we hate SUV's and mini Vans!!! But what other choice is there?

I like that the Taurus x is bigger then the freestyle and also has more room then a freestar. If the name was changed to windstar it would sell more. A big improvement from the freestyle and freestar . so i guess this temporary minvan replacement

I have considered buying the 2007 Freestyle...I like it's interior and exterior styling compared to minivans, and I like that it looks more like a wagon than an SUV. However I have some reservations based on what I have read about the horsepower. When I saw that the 2008 Taurus X would be virtually the same car but with more horsepower it made me much more confident in my decision to buy. I have to say though that I strongly dislike the "Taurus" name that they are giving it. I know it may be ridiculous to base a car decision on a name but when I think of "Taurus" I just think of a really generic ugly looking car, and I'm afraid you may lose many younger married couples with children because they don't want to even check out the new Taurus X. The Taurus may have been a really reliable/ most sold car in the past but the Freestyle is new and different and deserves a different name. It's just not a Taurus and people in my generation don't want to buy a Taurus. If someone told me they wanted me to come see their new Taurus I would be thinking negative thoughts from the get go. I like the Freestyle name but if it needs to change to help with marketing it should not be Taurus X.

Our family has a 2006 Freestyle Limited. It has been a great vehicle and has a high quality feel to it. I worked for a top 5 dealer in the U.S. for 7 years and have seen my share of issues with some other Fords. The freestyle has not given me any negative issues to even think about. I believe that this is a great vehicle for many types of people and Ford has made a change for the positive in its line of cars with this one. If you are considering a crossover vehicle, you need to give this car a test drive. You will feel the quality right from the start. Also offers many options for the money. I am proud to own a Ford and always have been. I also own an F150 which has not failed me to date. Thank you Ford for great vehicles and let the public know that you still make quality vehicles by new introductions just like the Freestyle and Taurus X.

We are Ford owners. I drive an 05 Freestar, my wife drives an 05 Freestyle (leased). We were elated to hear that Ford will continue to produce the Freestyle as we realy like it and will lease an 07 next spring. The only concern we have is the name, Taurus. It may have been a success for Ford, but it was yesterday's success. Ford has to look forward and think about today's and tomorrow's success. That means coming up with new ideas and not reaching back to something that was. People want something new and fresh, including the names of vehicles.

Come on! What are you doing? You put a new grille on the Freestyle and think nobody will notice? If the first Freestyle was a sales trainwreck, what makes you think that re-naming it and changing the front end will make a difference? The original Freestyle looked like a 1988 Escort station wagon on steroids. Now it looks like a 1988 Escort station wagon on steroids with a different grille. And it still won't sell. That's because there are so many other better looking and more powerful crossovers out there to choose from. What Ford needs is the Territory from Australia. The Ford Territory comes in either REAR-WHEEL-DRIVE or AWD with either a 255hp 4.0L DOHC INLINE-SIX engine or a 362HP Turbocharged 4.0L DOHC INLINE-SIX engine. Both mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Did I mention that the Territory was REAR-WHEEL-DRIVE. I'm sure I did mention that the Territory is REAR-WHEEL-DRIVE. I wonder if I am using the phrase "REAR-WHEEL-DRIVE" too much. I don't think so. Ford needs to get the phrase "REAR-WHEEL-DRIVE" into its collective head. Because REAR-WHEEL-DRIVE is what the people want. That's why GM is going to have at least nine (9) REAR-WHEEL-DRIVE vehicles in its line by the end of this decade. That's why Chrysler will have at lease six (6) REAR-WHEEL-DRIVE vehicles in its line by the end of the decade. Unfortunately, projections suggest that Ford will have no more than one (1) REAR-WHEEL-DRIVE vehicle, the Mustang, by the end of the decade. What's wrong with this picture? Ford needs to wake up and smell the REAR-WHEEL-DRIVE competition. The rest of the automotive world is returning to REAR-WHEEL-DRIVE in droves. Believe it or not, even Hyundai is poised to build a new REAR-WHEEL-DRIVE sedan in the next couple of years. You know if Hyundai is going REAR-WHEEL-DRIVE, there must be a market trend going in that direction. Come on Ford, throw us driving enthusiasts a bone here. I want a REAR-WHEEL-DRIVE sedan with a big, honkin' V-8 under the hood. Where can I get one? Chrysler? Yep. The 300, Charger, and Magnum. GM? Yep. The CTS, STS, G8, Impala, etc. Ford? Nope. The Mustang has two doors, and the Crown Vic, Grand Marquis, and Town Car are underpowered and still built on an obsolete 1979 LTD chassis with a straight axle rear suspension. Pathetic. If Ford doesn't do something drastic soon, they might as well let Toyota buy them out and get it over with.

And it still won’t sell. That’s because there are so many other better looking and more powerful crossovers out there to choose from. What Ford needs is the Territory from Australia.
I'm not getting the whole "ugly" thing. It's a bit plain (and I guess in the minds of Ford designers more "solid" looking) to be called ugly or beautiful.

I'm actually a bit concerned about the increase in power. The original design had it right. Listening to people who seem to enjoy living off the gas welfare that people with more economic vehicles provide is the wrong way to go. Ford had a relatively gas efficient vehicle with a third row. So what if it labors to go 80mph down I-10. Don't mess with it. Leave the "zippyness" to the likes of the Fusion or Mazda 3, that's what they're made for. If you're worried about "blending" with traffic in a hurry then take heart in the fact that the current 3.0 beat out the Mercedes engine in the Pacifica in 0 to 60 tests. The engine as it is now is adequate for the needs of the selected audience. Ford should have just left it alone and put some genuine brand-building money behind it. It could have had an identity of a vehicle that provided the perfect balance between comfort and economy. Instead Ford is selling out to gearhead wannabes that are going to cost me and others like me more money at the pump.

I completely agree with the use of the 3.0. We just traded our Freestyle for an MKX and I'll take the Freestyle (including the name). I really think Ford should not get caught up with the "auto media critics". They pronounced the 500/Freestyle DOA but they really don't know much about the average U.S. driver. Bring back the 3.0 as an option and stop messing with product names! The return of the Fiesta! Reaaaaly Alan, you can do better!

Though this Taurus X is a rebadged Freestyle, I think it's a great idea (both the vehicle and the rename). Crossovers are great - they get better mileage then an SUV and they are not as ungainly as a minivan. Taurus sold well for 12 years and everyone knows the name. Joe average car buyer will recognize the name and is not going to care that this was the Freestyle - Ford should have done this in the first place. I think it will do well.

To me, Ford let the Taurus "wither on the vine" for too long, so the name is a negative for both vehicles. The Falcon, Fairlane, Futura, Galaxy and Thunderbird have better histories. Call the Focus the Falcon, Call the Fusion the Fairlane and call the 500 the Galaxy 500. Build a world class sporty 2 door off of the Galaxy 500 platform and call it the Thunderbird. I own a Fusion...I think it should be called a Fairlane as Fusion is to "Psuedo-modern".

F150 or Explorer.....that is what I drive. Until I took a Freestyle(Taurus X). Now, I do work for a Ford dealership but do have access to any vehicle I want...except Lincoln. My last four vehicles....Freestyles. I am certainly not a minvan person, or a car person. I think the Freestyle looks like an SUV, feels like an SUV, drives like a car, has the space of a minivan and most important........the best fuel economy I have experienced in years. Don't knock it until you try it.

What's up with the name changes Ford? The Five Hundred being renamed Taurus, Ok..I'll give you that one. But honestly though, the Five Hundred should have been introduced as the new TAURUS from the being. NOW...the Freestyle, being renamed the TAURUS X... that's a stretch!! By changing the name of this "unique" cross-over vehicle, it now looses its FREEDOM appeal and is thrown in the shawdow of its big brother name sake, Taurus. The "former Freestyle" is a very worthy vehicle coming from a rich history of innovations. But I feel that Gen X is going to say NEXT when it comes to the Taurus X!!
