I have always been a lover of Mercury vehicles. When I was born I was brought home from the hospital in a white 1955 Mercury Monterey 2dr with a post. I have always said, I took one look and have been in love ever since. I have owned several. Saying I love Mercurys means I will compliment what I like but I will also get screaming mad at what Ford does and doesn't do with Mercury. I am glad to see the extra effort put into the front end changes over the Montego and the rear end changes. Moving the license to the bumper, is back to where is was before it was discontinued. What a shame it is that the roof lines aren't different, from the beginning, with the new body for the Montego and Five Hundred. Look back at the entire Sable / Taurus history and they have different body panels and roof lines. WHY REGRESS NOW??!!

Maybe tied for first in importance, is MARKETING!!!! Has there been any advertising of the Sable??? I have not seen any TV or print, and no radio commercials! WHAT IS UP WITH THAT!??? I would love to give Alan and Bill an earful about that!!! Market share won't even stabilize if nobody know the cars are in the showroom for sale! I hate hearing Taurus radio spots saying it is "THE" safest car on the road. It should be a joint ad when safety is being touted!! I drive a '99 Sable LS (49k miles..beautiful car) now and would love to get an '09 model, but maybe I would be buying an oddball that I have to explain to everyone what it is......as nobody will have even seen any on the road. I have seen only one on the road in Sacramento and zero for Ford Taurus.
I read that over 500 improvements have been made. IT would be excellent to advertise what they are!!!

SOMEBODY get Alan in front of a PC and have him read these coments!

I'm strongly disappointed with this one, Mercury. I really do like the front of the car and how you can make such an old people car look so young. What I dislike about it are the horrible taillamps! Ugh! I really hate how they drag down the rear of the car. They make the whole rear look like it's melting to the ground. The inside is nice, though.

I really like the '08 Mercury Sable. I absoultely love the Milan's headlight and glad to see them used again however can look a little too much like the Milan and could maybe of been modified slightly. I really love the new taillights and thought they were more futuristic but reminded me a lot of the Accord (althought the Sables are much cooler). I'm also glad to see Mercury getting its own style rather than a Ford design with a different grille and a few tweaks hear and there. Keep up the great work.

Looks real classy but I prefer the Montego tail lights. Now with the AWD IRS geometry in place put in a Mustang V8, SC'd would be fine (sitting north and south) 6 speed manual, a slight body kit and some good looking wheels.
I like the new look of the 08 Montego/Sable. I think it'll sell a lot better than the 08 Five Hundred/Taurus. It has a classier look and the exterior changes fit better overall than the redone Ford.
I just viewed the 2008 Sable at the New York International Auto Show. Compared to the 2001 and 2002 Sable LS Premiums I own, I like what I see. The car has a fresh look, is incredebly roomy and versitile (fold-down R/F seat & can swallow a 9 foot 2X4 with the trunk closed!). The only thing that Ford can improve on is additional equipment value. If the 2008 Sable/Taurus can be offered with the equipment level of the old LS Premiums (moonroof, auto. climate control, leather interior, CD changer, etc.) it will be unbeatable for the price and will give the imports a new benchmark to aim for.

It took ford from 1996 to 2003 to get the sable to shift correctly and my 2005 is outstanding, then they pull the plug! I purchased a 1996 Sable and the transmission would shift and almost throw driver and passengers through the windshield at 96,000 miles the transmission had parts fall into the pan. I purchased a 2003 what a great improvement it was, and the 2005 just outstanding. The 500/Montego is a wrong move the car is uncomfortable the center console is a joke. Now they put in this transmission that does not shift and the engine has to rev up instead of letting the gears do the work. I do not need a taller car just another 2005 Sable looking vehicle with a change to the front or rear style and a trunk that the lid is deeper at the opening. Taller cars more wind resistance and lower mileage. Need to get rid of the suv look this car looks like the old sab. My 2003 and 2005 both out perform my sons Montego/500, nice car but not the value I saw in the sable. You still have time before the metal presses start rolling to rethink this one.

When introducing the Five Hundred / Montego twins, CEO Bill Ford said it was an intermediate step between the Taurus/Sable and the Crown Victoria/Marquis that would provide a higher class of vehicle to compete with the competition. That is why the Taurus/Sable line continued for 2006, but the loss of fleet/rental sales meant trouble.

If Ford knew this change was coming, why not announce it at the Detroit NAIAS in January? And then quickly swapping badges to a 'historic name from Ford's past'! Excuse me, but Ford's new CEO needs to check back to the 60's for the real historical names of 500 and Montego.

As a result, either the 08's will be decontented to meet the rental/fleet segment, and those who bought 06/07 FiveHundreds and Montego's just saw a huge depreciation in their cars.

Ford made a bad move that's going to hurt them in the long run (if they last that long

If Ford knew this change was coming, why not announce it at the Detroit NAIAS in January? And then quickly swapping badges to a ‘historic name from Ford’s past’! Excuse me, but Ford’s new CEO needs to check back to the 60’s for the real historical names of 500 and Montego.

As a result, either the 08’s will be decontented to meet the rental/fleet segment, and those who bought 06/07 FiveHundreds and Montego’s just saw a huge depreciation in their cars.

Ford made a bad move that’s going to hurt them in the long run (if they last that long
