Ford Interceptor Concept
Posted January 6, 2007 at 7:29 pm Make a Comment

“The Ford Interceptor concept has the soul of Mustang but combines ‘Built Ford Tough’ attitude with the sporty elegance of ’60s Ford sedans,” said Peter Horbury, executive director, Design, The Americas.

Exterior design elements, feature substantial, sometimes brutish, surfaces and sections and the traditional rear-wheel drive proportion that includes a short front overhang, extended dash-to-axle ratio, low cabin and higher beltline.

As a nod to performance purists, the ultimate muscle lies under the powered clamshell “shaker” hood, which caps a thoroughly detailed engine compartment.

Making this a Ford are signature design touches, including the horizontal three-bar grille that is structurally integrated into the bumper beam as well as professionally applied “squircles” – or professionally square circles – inside and out.

The concept’s minimalist interior is sleek, focusing the driver’s attention on the speedometer and tachometer, whose needles start at center and move opposite each other.
The audio control panel and climate controls are hidden – but deployable. And the gated six-speed shifter is exposed, just waiting to be thrown into gear.

I love it. When can I have one.
mike says (August 12, 2008 at 7:03 pm):
Ford should make this car and put it on market. Stay true to the concept similar to GM and the new Camaro and you will have a grandslam with this one.
Jonathan says (August 12, 2008 at 1:26 pm):
The exterior looks great!! But....the interior is too gaudy. Ford needs to create ideas from Volvo, and bring a mercedes feel interior into their products. A perfect example is the E-class mercedes. The ford taurus has a simular exterior to the E-class mercedes but the interior is grandma looking!!!
kenneth l says (August 8, 2008 at 10:29 pm):
please make this car

These are the reasons why Ford the stock F is going down and becoming worthless.
Alejandro Echevarria says (August 3, 2008 at 1:23 pm):
I will definitely buy the Interceptor, i currently own a Crown Victoria, and i would buy this car in a heart beat. Looks are great, performance sounds excellent, this is a truly all American vehicle!

BUILD THE CAR DAMNIT
James says (August 1, 2008 at 5:07 pm):
If you cant build this car with more than 350 HP, dont bother. Some of us are tired of coming in last. The car looks great just put some power under the hood. Ford will always be my #1.
kenneth says (July 31, 2008 at 11:57 pm):

I Love this car!! I have wanted a more powerful FORD 4 door car. I was going to settle for the Dodge Charger, but.... if you throw this puppy out i wont have to sacrifice my love of Ford vehicles
FAIRLANER says (July 30, 2008 at 1:22 pm):
BUILD THE THING ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IM SICK AND TIRED OF THIS CRAP YOU SHOVE DOWN OUR THROATS THAT COULDNT OUTRUN A SNAIL AND LOOKS ABOUT AS APPATIZING AS A CRAP SANDWICH!
YOU WOULD THINK TOYOTA OVERTAKING YOU WOULD'VE LIT A FIRE UNDER YOUR COLLECTIVE ASSES, BUT NOT WITHASTANDING THE MUSTANG, IT HASNT. IF YOU DONT BUILD THIS, IT WILL JUST REINFORCE MY THINKING THAT FOR IS DEAD! I DRIVE MY VINTAGE FORDS WHICH INCLUDE A '62 GALAXIE 500, '64 FAIRLANE 2DR SEDAN, '64 FAIRLANE 2DR HRDTP; '64 FALCON SPRINT, AND A '66 MUSTANG 289 HRDTP. I WILL NEVER GET RID OF THESE CARS, BUT IT DOES MAKE ME VERY SAD THAT FORD IS NOT AT THE TOP OF THE GAME LIKE THEY USED TO BE. SEE, ALL THE CARS I HAVE LISTED HAVE ANOTHER THING GOIN FOR THEM OTHER THAN HORSEPOWER.....CLASS!
OTHER THAN THE NEW MUSTANG, EVERYTHING ELSE YOU BUILD IS UGLY. ITS NO WONDER YOU ARE NOW #3 IN THE U.S.!!!!!!! #3?? ARE YOU HAPPY WITH #3?? IT SURE SEEMS LIKE IT! THIS INTERCEPTOR IS BEAUTIFUL!! BUT HAVIN SAID THAT, THIS CAR IS LOOSELY BASED ON THE 427 CONCEPT FROM ABOUT WHAT? 5-6 YEARS AGO??? CHRYSLER ALREADY BUILT THEIR VERSION (READ: RIPOFF) OF IT AND IT HAS DONE PRETTY WELL. BUT YET AGAIN, FORD IS LATE TO THE PARTY. SAD.

WHY CANT YOU PEOPLE REDESIGN YOUR CARS TO HAVE CLASS?? I.E.- FOCUS, TAURUS, CROWN VIC, ETC. IN MY OPINION, OUTSIDE OF THE MUSTANG, THE BEST LOOKIN VEHICLE IS THE FLEX! AT LEAST IT STANDS OUT FROM THE REST OF THE MUNDANE JUNK BEING PUMPED OUT OF YOUR FACTORIES! YOU PROBABLY WOULDNT BE POSTING HUGE LOSSES IF THE CARS LOOKED BETTER.
Jay Vandersall says (July 29, 2008 at 2:46 pm):
build it
John Dough says (July 29, 2008 at 12:21 pm):
Cops will stick with fleet vehicles. This concept has been created for the true American Muscle Sports Car Enthusiast! As a matter of fact, a reasonable release date will stop plenty of Challenger purchases. Henry Ford would be proud. Great innovation!
F U T U R A says (July 29, 2008 at 1:37 am):
If this were to be the "new" Crown Vic, they'd have to raise the roof line. Cops would never be able to get a handcuffed criminal into it the way it is now.
Crown Vic says (July 23, 2008 at 8:47 pm):
Ford has a good idea, but it needs to be toned down a good bit. Keep it exciting on one hand, on the other hand keep the current Crown Victoria in mind, functional, reliable, and for a V8 motor fuel efficient! Front end could use some work (modern design for good air flow) along with a better more functional/comfortable interior and seats. Keep it on the Panther platform because it has proven to be "Ford Tough". This is a great start to a new REAL full size, RWD American touring/sport sedan. Since the Crown Victoria is no longer available to the public (fleet only) could this be coming soon? If not put the Crown Victoria back on the market. If it makes it to the market could it replace the P71 a few years later?

I recently took a job selling Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury Vehicles. I agree that this car has amazing styling. It would do very well...but most concept cars never make it to the market without evolving into something completely different. I believe that Ford needs to introduce a vehicle that can compete with the Prius. It sounds as if the price of gas won't be going down any time soon, and this is one way to stay ahead of the game.
