Ford Interceptor Concept
Posted January 6, 2007 at 7:29 pm Make a Comment

“The Ford Interceptor concept has the soul of Mustang but combines ‘Built Ford Tough’ attitude with the sporty elegance of ’60s Ford sedans,” said Peter Horbury, executive director, Design, The Americas.

Exterior design elements, feature substantial, sometimes brutish, surfaces and sections and the traditional rear-wheel drive proportion that includes a short front overhang, extended dash-to-axle ratio, low cabin and higher beltline.

As a nod to performance purists, the ultimate muscle lies under the powered clamshell “shaker” hood, which caps a thoroughly detailed engine compartment.

Making this a Ford are signature design touches, including the horizontal three-bar grille that is structurally integrated into the bumper beam as well as professionally applied “squircles” – or professionally square circles – inside and out.

The concept’s minimalist interior is sleek, focusing the driver’s attention on the speedometer and tachometer, whose needles start at center and move opposite each other.
The audio control panel and climate controls are hidden – but deployable. And the gated six-speed shifter is exposed, just waiting to be thrown into gear.

Gary Del Valle says (May 12, 2008 at 11:27 am):
First let me say that as a loyal Ford customer for many years I have been involved in the purchase of thousands of Crown Victorias over the years. I must say that I love the look of the new concept car, however the picture of the interior concerns me due to it having a center console. Will thier be a bucket seat option for the placement of equipment ?? I also want to reming Ford that anytime the interior dimensions of a vehicle are changed it impacts the purchasing agency because we then must purchase new consoles, cages, etc. Thanks for taking the time to review my comments.

I am 34 years old, was raised in a Bronco, my first car as an adult was a Taurus, God and my F-150 saved my family's lives a year ago in a horrible accident, and now we drive an Expedition EL. I hope to add the Interceptor to this story!

Fabian says (April 26, 2008 at 5:57 pm):
Sorry Ford, you are hopless. I saw this car in a Robocop movie, they were trying to be ironic on the fact that americans like big bad cars. I also saw a similar design in a Simpsons cartoon. If I'm not mistaken this is the kind of ideas that make you loose 12 billion.
Regs says (April 24, 2008 at 3:27 pm):
Personally, and I emphasize personally, exterior styling wise I find this vehicle to be very bland and uninspiring. I tend to like more shape, facets and curves to create visual interest and a sculptured feel. None of that is here so for me it's very hard to get excited about this concept. Definitely others do differ and taste is always subjective. Of course looks is only sheet metal deep and the other half of the experience is driving one. However, with gas prices heading to $4 plus as quickly as this does 0 - 60 it's not likely I'd drive one much less consider buying one. It looks like the type of gas guzzler whose time has past. I do believe in Ford as a forward thinking company and I'm sure they'll readily and easily adapt this car to whatever new technologies come up. Good luck with the new addition to the family.

how much is it

The Interceptor is a BEAUTIFUL car!! I really hope Ford builds it. I would definitely purchase one! One suggestion, I would love to see a true hardtop with no pillars.
Rob says (April 21, 2008 at 2:22 pm):
Build the Interceptor, and I'll buy it... even with the four doors, it'll be more convenient for my family of four anyway. Plus, its a car, a real honest to goodness car, not a minivan, nor a cross-over, but something that actually looks like it would be fun to drive. Make it a two dour, four seat, keep it rear wheel drive, call it a Thunderbird and I'll put down a deposit... and wait patiently for it. I prefer rear wheel drive, and while the Mustang is a nice automobile, it just isn't practical for my needs. Once my kids are grown, perhaps I'll buy one, but that is at least 10 years from now. Produce the Interceptor, and I'll buy one when it is released. I have always loved Fords, my grandfather sold them for over fifty years, and I basically grew up in his dealership, but I haven't seen anything terribly exciting come out of Dearborn in years. Please don't make me buy a G8 from Pontiac.
FRED MCGEE says (April 17, 2008 at 9:45 pm):
It would be nice to have it Hybrid
John Tebbs says (April 17, 2008 at 2:24 pm):
Ford has a great line up of trucks, however what I don't get is the fact that they desperately need more attractive cars beyound the Fusion and don't do anything about it. I own 12 ford trucks and have little to no selection of cars to chose from at Ford. Toyota has three small good gas milage cars and two to compete against the Fusion. Ford needs to wake up. The Flex and interceptor are misconsieved. I can't see a reason why anyone would want these. I hate to see Ford fail as an American icon. I wish I could get an audience with the board of directors and help them see what they are doing. I think I could do a lot to turn them around.
Hotrod says (April 14, 2008 at 4:50 pm):
BUILD IT.......................... BUILD IT..................... We got a T-bird SC its a awesome car
Harvey says (April 14, 2008 at 12:19 pm):
I really love the look of this thing--its absolutely beautiful.....unfortunately with gas prices rising to new heights it doesnt make a bit of sense to build or own---I would love to see this built but when gas is 5 bux a gallon these babies will be staying on the lots. too bad.....because its such a wonderful design
toby says (April 7, 2008 at 8:34 pm):
This is a must build for ford. I hope the company can see that.
darkness says (April 4, 2008 at 1:00 pm):
the car is a little to big but is it true that the company is going to blow a lot of money producing these cars.....police departments are glad that these cars are there.....if the state provides more confidince in letting these cars go down the street and getting wrecked and smashed up....the dodge charger the most fast and moviable car in southwest va...... gives me a nice look...so what states is the big amounts of cars are going to apear at in searl years..... I give the car 4 out of 10 rating thanks lord darkness
fordfreak says (April 1, 2008 at 8:56 am):
there are 699 comments that have been posted but not one has been answered by FORD about weather they are going to build it , the ford CEO when he took over could not believe that the car wasn't even built already. Now with him in charge will it be built? He likes it but will the been crunchers let him?
