Lincoln MKR Concept introduces a new engine technology that delivers V-8 power and performance with V-6 fuel economy. The new technology, TwinForce™, will appear on future Lincoln and Ford vehicles.

TwinForce uses direct injection technology and turbocharging. These technologies are common in diesel engines, but have only recently been combined for use in gasoline engines.

“Everything we do is driven by our customers,” said Derrick Kuzak, group vice president, Global Product Development. “Our TwinForce engine technology is a key element of how we’re going after fuel economy gains without asking anyone to give up performance.”

Lincoln MKR Concept’s engine is flex-fuel capable, which means the driver has the flexibility to use gasoline, E85, or a combination of the two fuels. At Ford, development of flexible fuel vehicles, and the corresponding development of a biofuel infrastructure, is viewed as an important step toward increased use of biofuels to provide energy security and environmental benefits.

As a former Ford employee in product development and now a home builder, this TwinForce idea in the 4 cylinder engine would be great in the Ranger pickups. I sold my F350 diesel due to fuel costs, and didn't really need that much truck anyway. I would think Ford could sell a lot of TwinForce-equiped Rangers to contractors and fleets.

I hope when the next generation Australian Ford Falcon gets a Duratec V6 the XR6 turbo will get the TwinForce treatment.

This is a great idea! I have always been a fan of turbocharging. I have owned two Thunderbird Turbo Coupes with the 2.3L Turbocharged/Intercooled/EFI/SOHC inline-4 engine and 5-speed transmission, a 1987 and a 1988. Both were wonderful cars. Plenty of power and great fuel economy. Turbocharging has always been what most would call "free" horsepower. Meaning that there are no parasitic losses due to the turbocharger since it runs on exhaust gasses. A supercharger, on the other hand, uses engine power to drive the impellers to make more power, therefore it is not free. If I had anything to do with it, Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury would jump into this technology with both feet and run with it. Lincoln needs all the help it can get right now and so does Ford and Mercury. That means more REAR-WHEEL-DRIVE cars and more engines with piles of horsepower so they can compete with the other auto makers. Please run with this program.

This is an excellent idea. My '06 GTI has the VW/Audi 2 litre direct injection turbo 4, and it's a fabulous, efficient design. Lots of power (more than the stated 200 bhp) and I get 32-34 mpg on the highway.
Ford, even BMW, long a leader in engine design, is turning to turbocharging. DO NOT ABANDON THIS LINE OF THINKING.

hey this is so sweet when does it come out\
