I purchased a 2008 Shelby GT500 on May 8, 2008. Black with Gray stripes. It is absolutely fantastic. It corners EXTREMELY well and WOW does it have power. Once you get rolling, which is interesting with the dual competition clutch, it just goes! The amazing thing about the GT500 is it is so comfortable to drive. Crusing at 60-70 mph is enjoyable, as this allows cars to pass and give you the thumbs up. Lots of us baby boomers love the original Shelby’s and this car brings out the very best. You need to pay attention to your speed, as you get to the speed limit FAST! No ticket for getting to 70 mph really fast! I have about 160 miles on the car and it is great! Thanks Ford and Shelby for a wonderful vehicle.

I can only imagine how awesome this car is. I recently drove a “normal” mustang and totally loved it.. It seemed like it drove just like my buddy’s 69 Fastback he had in high school only a touch better………just like a muscle-car should drive—keep doing what you are doing on this thing

I had a 67 mustang 289 that I bought in San Diego in 70 just before I went to viet Nam. It was my first car and it was like my first love, I will never forget her. I was hit a couple of times in nam and lost my mustang to an ex-wife and have never been able to afford another one. But in my dreams, I still ride down to La Jolla and feel the freedom and the smell the air and the pain goes away for awhile. Maybe someday I will have the dream car again the Shelby GT500 and all will be right with the world, in my mind anyway. Thank you Mr. Shelby for the car that men still dream about and some can even drive home. God bless.

Wasnt the new mustang designed by a Japanese man? It doesnt make the mustang “Japanese” now does it? The Italian design could help the front end of the mustang alot its the only part I dont like. I would have to do a front end GT500 conversion or something becuase the stock front is ugly!

are they ever gonna bring the Taures SHO back, or even the Contour SVT. I think Ford should Produce an all wheel drive four door turbo or supercharged car that can compete with dodge and mitsubishi

 I am deeply disappointed with how Ford and the dealerships operate separately. Ford needs to have some control over the dealerships in regards to dealer markups. I have wanted a Shelby GT500 since they were first introduced - yet with $15,000 to $20,000 markups, it is out of the question. It is truly sad because I DO hold Ford responsible for dealerships greediness and will not buy another Ford because of it.

I am in total agreement with you. Here in Tucson, the “Market Adjusted” price of the GT500 is $25,000!
That brought the sticker price to $73,000! Oh well, I can buy a Porche for that, or save $20,000 and buy a Vet.

 Why is a mustang available in right hand drive.
The yobs in OZ do not like work so the price is more than double.
Serious fans would love one but wish to order direct and avoid the corrupt OZ .NZ and RSA yobs.
Mustang is a peoples car so why should Ford USA want to stop sales of thousands [at the expence of Ford shareholders] if they made right hand drive at the price of a lefty.

 Iv’e had the pleasure of working at the Flat Rock assembly plant for a week and to see the GT500 being built and coming off the assembly line was an experience I will never forget. At the Flat Rock plant there is this long tunnel and the floor is painted green, I called it “The Green Mile” this tunnel was used to drive the Mustangs in and out of the plant; I enjoyed seeing the GT500s when they would enter the green mile, they looked like Mustang GTs on steroids.

 I took my 2007 mustang GT automatic (bone stock) to the local dragstrip, the weather was perfect (70 degrees, 35% humidity). I had 28 psi in the rear tires and stalled it up to 1,500 rpm’s on the starting line and it ran a 13.88@98.92 1/4 mile. Everyday driving I get 22mpg, now that’s awesome. Running in the 13’s and still average 22mpg.

 My grandfather owns a new Shelby GT 500. He also owns a 97 Saleen Mustang. He said that the Shelby would out run the Saleen in the short run. I said WOW what a car when I first rode it. It handled so smooth. The comments above are about as acurate as they get. As we were going down the road he stoped in the middle of the road and then took off. By the end of 1st gear we hit 50mph. Then he shifted to 2nd and we were flying. It hit about 90 before we went into town. That is a fast car.

I have always loved ford the way thay look and handle have loved the small cars that Ford has put out hrom time to time. I now own a 1997 Ford Aspire. Still gets 34mpg a round town and 38 to 40 on the road. I drive 60 mile’s a day and maybe more for the Wife. Have never felt unsafe in it. I hope that Ford comes out with a minnie car for what we now call the metro.

I became a first time Mustang owner recently. I have driven my 07 GT 1500 miles in two weeks. I can tell you one thing…I’m hooked for life! It’s only a 300, but its the fastest car I have ever driven. Props to the Ford Motor Company.

My first car was a 63 Galaxy whale tail w/ a 390, after that a 64 1/2 2+2, 66 2+2, 69 boss 302 mustang later 66 390 gtx a piece at at a time 427 galaxy. I have always had good luck with the Fords I have owned and the new mustangs are at least a step in the right direction in apperance, it seems as if the manufacturs have forgotten what looks good and have gone to the follow me styling in other words cars today have little if any personality the mustang and Ford GT are putting personality back in the ride. I am a Ford family, my dad retired from Ford and so do I. I bought a Shelby 500, and it is the fastest and best riding Mustang I have ever owned. I have had 68,69,72,87,91,91,05, and now this Shelby. It is the best, at 125 mph it feels like 60, the 05 GT Mustang at 100mph you knew it. This car is the dream car of all Mustangs hands down. Ford has done their homework on this one I love it.

stick with ‘05 thru ‘09 style mustang, it is the best since the 60’s, don’t mess it up with the italian style. as one of the other readers stated, it looks like all the other euro style cars stick with the retro style and you will have very happy mustang fans.

i really love the tie between the past and the present . the concepts all hold true to the past ponies we all love and grew up with.. what impresses me the most considering i am from a mustang anf ford family shown my grandfather these new concepts for his comments since he is one of the original painters of the 64 1/2’s and even hes impressed thanks for the memories and the insight to know what to change and what not too….

What you need is to bring back the Mach1,Boss, and limited production models. Don’t change your bread and butter car to a peice of erro crap. I think the new mustangs are incredible!! And the Mustang by Giugiaro is just plain awesome. I have been a true mustang fan since childhood and i believe that this is some of the best years for the legendary Mustang tradion.

As a mustang owner, i must say that the current style is by far the best, my prvious mustang was an 04 which seems ancient compared to my 06. Of course when you buy mustang, you have to modify it to your tastes… If all the ford line were as continuous and full of history as the stang there would be no ford problems… Why rename all the others every time you restyle them… imagine if the ford focus had always been say.. the falcon.. then it also would have a 40year plus history to boast on.. and so on with the rest, most people trust a name thats familiar, not ALL NEW every week like the lincoln zephyr becomes mkz…??? should have just been the second generation LS and thats that… names ARE IMPORTANT… thats why mustang is popular… and five hundred is not (Not to mention that the five hundred needs a bigger engine)

All Mustang lovers here me now… I love the mustang, it was my first car. True American car, but if Ford does not do something about the cars that are plain ugly like the focus or their family cars they will go bankrupt. Foreign design must happen to save the company. They have to keep reinventing the cars, make them edgy. Ford cant just live off the f150 and Mustang, ask Toyota how sales are….. I love American but if they dont change to keep my generation happy or at least semi intrested we will go somewhere else.

Another marketing mess up. While the Shelby GT500 is awesome, what will they have between the GT and the snake? There’s a 200hp gap and the new retro cars from GM and Dodge will come with 400…and probably more. That’s where the Mach or Boss name could come in. After all, don’t they have a 400hp cammer? Back to the marketing mess up…that Italian Mustang is a complete flop…the headlight/grille looks is shaped just like the Camaro Concept…which isn’t a concept anymore. Why in the hell would you show off a car like that when it looks just like another car from another manufacturer. The Five Hundred still looks like crap. Why does Ford only have one muscle car? What about a Corvette type of car? As a Mustang lover, even the Shelby GT500 isn’t a base Corvette….for 50K you can get a 180+mph Corvette that handles like a sports car should. Sorry but the Ford GT isn’t in the Corvette range…it’s above it but it should be for 150k. Wake the hell up Ford.

its right,a mustang is a mustang,there is the v6 mustang that is ahhh,well a mustang(not my type).then the gt mustang with the standerd v8.then comes the mach 1 mustang that they still say is the best one.now comes the beast.the shelby mustang gt500,made by two gropes.shelby and SVT.got the 500 hp,ford racing exost.ford gt parts. and the supercharged 5.4 liter just screames at u like a jet.i should know because i had all types of mustangs.even when u push it alittle down u hear it and u think its a jet ur ridding in.the haniling is ok and breaks are good.but the mach 1 still got the upper hand for me.the best breaks and handling and a turbo engin makes it a must have just like the gt500.
next on my list is getting both roush mustangs,saleen mustang supercharged,and trying to get the saleen mustang extream(with im luckey).but now im sticking with my mach 1,and my gt500.

Your right a mustang is a mustang! i love the shelby gt500! make it into a gt500e or bring back the gt350. im not a big fan of the concept by the italian designer. that concept reminds me of something of the evo concept morphed with the camaro concpet..its like there are no existing lines of a mustang in it at all..stick with the retro styling of the current mustang!

I think the car is beautiful, but i think that it is sad that dealerships can get away with taking a fifty thousand dollar car and making it a one-hundred to one-hundred fifty thousand dollar car. So much for it being affordable.

They should keep the all american muscle look with the mustang n not go italian on us. Ford is an american company not italian. They should remake the boss and the mach 1. Ford should also keep the originality in the mustang.

I own a Mustang gt. Please stay with a american design.It is a hertiage. I was 3yrs old and decided that the Mustang was the car for me. I would not trade mine period. I read your article about a female point of veiw at the show on the concept stang, I know plenty of women in our Mustang club that would disagree. Just look at the sales of the Pontiac GTO, Pontiac firebird/trans am for the last couple of years. Compare it to Stang sales. Pontiac is very Euro. Ipersonally agree with my husband and about 500 of our Mustang Club members “NO WAY”.

I just picked up an 07 shelby cobra in mid Dec. When alot of people try to compare the vette to the cobra says alot about this car. This is the only thing that G.M. has to compare it to ,their top dog. If you want fords top dog try the gt40 up against the vette for performance. Other then having to pay 8k over invoice would be the only drawback of this whole car period. By the way this is by far the best looking exterior of mustangs since the 60s. keep the style. PLEASE NOTHING LESS THAN AWESOOOOOME!!!!!

I have been crazy about Mustangs and Carrol Shelby since my uncle first took me for a ride in his 1967 Fastback 2+2 when I was just five years old. I think the new GT 500 is the greatest Mustang ever. I had been hoping for a long long time that Ford would one day return to the classic muscular Mustang look of the late 60’s, and Ford finally delivered. Best of all is the 500 Mustangs under the hood that finally earns the respect of its ancestory. Sadly though, dealers are marking these cars up more than $20,000 over MSRP, effectively taking them out of the hands of real Mustang Fans. I fear this will keep sales numbers down, unless Ford pumps up production numbers. I don’t think its right that Ford did such a wonderful job bringing this Mustang to market at such a reasonable MSRP and the dealers are reaping the lion’s share of the profits at the expense of Ford’s loyal Mustang Fanatics. However, if Ford does decide to double its current production numbers for the GT 500, I think they will sell as many of them as they want to. As for me, at this poit I will be excited if I can get one out the door for 50k. Then I can have my dream car and my kids can still go to college… Wow, what a concept!

Mustangs are the greatest car ever!

Ford has been a part of my life for years, but when they went with the Euro look as did all of the “Big 3″ I stop looking at the new cars. Why should I, they all looked the same. Then the new Mustang came out. At last, the american look was on its way back! But now Ford wants to change their hottest selling car design for just another Euro look. What’s wrong with you people at Ford? You want us to buy American, then keep building (the Mustang) cars that look American, or your days are numbered. You’ve done a great job with the Mustang, don’t ruin it with an Italian’s idea of American looks.

I just took delivery of my 2007 Shelby GT 500 in the beginning of December, so naturally I hope they don’t build too many. They are limiting it to 8,000-10,000. I have driven it once before putting it away for the winter. As fun as it is to sit in, it is ten times better to drive. This is a great car, if you get a chance, go see it at the Detroit Auto Show.

People who love mustangs have probably already heard about the Shelby. And the ones who have herd are all wishing that they could get there hands on it.
I just hope that ford gets it in gear and starts making more to met demands.

I can only hope that Ford builds a Mach 1 out of this style for at least three years before they bail out on the best modern built retro mustang ever. If they go Italian that will be the end for the “American Muscle” and what design do they have to shoot for after this. Don’t “can” this body style in 2009 as rumours suggest and instead build on it with different themes for a little longer while we can. Many different styles go on for years. Think Mach 1, Boss, Cammer and the like.
