Why with the fuel cost does Ford still not produce a vehicle that gets 40 mpg in a suv model?

Me and my wife just purchased a expedition and we are enjoying it. Well she is, but the other night she asked me does it comes in hybrid. That would be an excellant idea you guys. Thanks for being number 1

Bring back the Excursion to hell with the expedition, you get the same mileage with less towing and less room. The Excursion was king, and you guys took his crown away, put him back on the thrown and rule that super big SUV kingdom again.

I agree, I have had 2 excursions, LOVE THEM!!! They must come back. (Excursion lovers don’t care about gas.) I do now own the EL Expedition 08, but it will never compare to the excursion, I hope ford reads this. BRING IT BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

please improve the fuel mileage on the Expedition -my 1997 Expedition is doing fine @140000 miles but neither it nor I will last forever! Jim aged 75

My husband and I want to see a DIESEL ENGINE in an EXPEDITION!!!!!!!!! The vehicle is wonderful, but the MPG is unforgiving. We are also looking forward to the F150 diesel pickup.

Ditto on both being Diesel. I don’t need an f250, but it’s the only option.

I bought 2008 Expedition Limited 3 months ago. I LOVE IT! This is the best truck ever. Actually I think that all Ford’s products look great. I can not wait to see new Explorer on the road… Great job Ford! I do not understand why people are looking for different/foreign brands. American cars are the best and the Expedition is the best example. The best SUV in the market!

I have always liked the Expedition. I like the new Chrome Truck grill. Expedition needs a real Chrome / Steel Bumper to go along with it.

I just bought an Expedition EL. LOVE IT!!!!! it’s huge, just what we needed. It is powerful, and looks great too. The only thing is the gas mileage. It is pretty good on highway, but city isn’t too good. Overall, I am very happy with the vehicle. Great job Ford.

I purchased a 2008 Expedition Eb. I love the truck,but why don’t FORD offer a hitch cover from the factory(GM does)

You should have asked the dealer for one. They would have given you a cover . Plastic, Ford name on it. Great truck.

What’s the big deal about a $10 hitch cover? Have you ever thought that Ford is giving you an opportunity to personalize your vehicle with a hitch that you want?

Ford needs to put a SUV on the F250 frame with the same power train options. Sorry to see the Excursion go. I may have to look elsewhere for my next SUV.

Me too. I want the diesel!!! I, like many other Alaskans pull trailers ALOT. 34′ 3 axle snowmachine trailer in the winter 6 snowmachines and all assosiated camping gear. In the summer a 34′ travel trailer.

I hear Chevy is considering a diesel for the 2500 Suburban.

Beautiful vehicle. My wife wants one. I will get her one when I see it with the 6.0 PSD. I drive a 06 F-350 with the diesel and I LOVE IT. Great power, good fuel ecomomy, its quiet enough. Please FORD read the comments and provide what your customer base is asking for. Strong diesel power, good diesel fuel economy and rate it to pull 10,000lbs. In the mean time I am looking into the ford E-350 for her because it is avalible in diesel. Even though we would rather have the SUV……you better hope Chevy doesn’t build one first. Dodge already has (but its underpowered)

That may work for you. But I live in Alaska and drive in the mountains (real mountains) I pull trailers more that I drive solo. The 5.4 is probably fine for you. But I get 14 mpg towing my 10,500 lb 34′ travel trailer. Your 5.4 Expedition MIGHT pull it; but it will never be as capable as the 6.0L power stroke. And even if it could hold up to the rigors of pulling this trailer up Thompsons Pass coming out of Valdez at 60 mph like my powerstroke can. At BEST I could hope for 8 MPG towing. I go almost twice as far on each gallon of diesel when I am towing. Ford could make a 4 valve per cylinder, twin turbo (with V-3 technology), put 4″ duel exhaust on from the factory (it would save me from doing it aftermarket). If you built it I will come!!!

I bought a 07 EL and pull a 8000Lb trailer with gear and this thing pulls as good as the diesel excursion I replaced. It now has a 6 speed tranny with a 4.17 first gear that gets the rig rolling. for the extra expense for owning a diesel, this truck will hold its own, and gets 20mph on the highway in 6th gear(not pullng of course)TRY IT OUT

 Need a diesel option, otherwise will keep my PSD Excursion.

I loved everything about my first 2001 Expedition, except the engine. It downshifted going up small hills with 2 people and no load and got 11 miles to the gallon pulling a large snowmobile trailer. I will buy a new one only when they put a diesel as an option!

I think the new Expedition looks more rugged, and more capable than any other large SUV. Keep up with the Jones’? This vehicle IS the Jones’.

up. Are you waiting to play catch up to Toyota and GM to get this set up??

 Get look on the expedition EL. Would be nice if flex fuel or modular engine was available. Also I to my SUV behind an RV. Therefore I need to be able to put the transfer case into neutral so I can flat tow…. Thanks

 Big 4 louvre chrome. Had to out do Chevrolet on the wide chrome. Their one bar was bad. This 4 bar is 4 time as ugly. All the Fors went to the wide Chrome. Why? Chevrolet dropped it! Their sales those years were horrid.

 As with all designs from Ford very nice - however, the basic questions - Flex Fuel (E85) capabilities in all vehicles? And what about a 6 cyl. deisel engine option for the F150,250, Explorer and Expedition? Is Ford going run it to the wire with older 4.0 V6, or actully take the modular engine concept to the next level of capability? Seems that Ford is not in a financial position to ignore variable (flexiable) engine options. Better to start now, and move forward and spare us the excuses.

 Love the new Expedition line. A little disappointed in the color selection, but still love the design.. When will Sync be available on the Expeditions?

 I have an excursion now and won’t trade it in because Ford is no longer offering anything comarabel with a diesel in it. Ford…put a diesel in the F150 and expeditions and you will have THE Truck and SUV market eating out of your hands!

 I was looking at the Expedition and noted that the 20″ Chrome-CLAD Aluminum wheels are nothing more than PLASTIC wheel covers. You would think that a vehicle as nice as the Expedition would at least have real Chrome Wheels as an upgrade. At least you are not charged extra for the “wheel covers” when you upgrade but you are charged $995 for the larger tires… so I guess that you really are charged. One wonders how durable these “wheel covers” will be?

 THis new truck is hot, now if only ford could get the Expedition to get 26 miles to gallon on highway i know for sure no other suv maker could compete. BEST LOOKING SUV IN THE WORLD

 i really enjoy what ford has been doing to stand out. ithink that ford might be able to pull it all together after all. by the way i love ford there awsome and i really like thier new ford flex it looks real nice but i wish ford would put out smaller cars that are cheap like the chevy avo . so i hope ford will be #1 again

to “voice of reason”… you dont do alot of research do you… the latest findings for fuel economy for the EL vs. the Suburban with your “multidisplacement” is the horrible. the expedition tows more, out accellerates, and has less emissions and still get 2 mpgs better. sometimes hybrids and other gimics dont work the way you would think. as a former Ford Employee i can honestly stand here and say id buy a gas/diesel over a hybrid any day. the technology is there to make it better but not just yet.

I love the Expedition. I own a 2003 the first of this generation of Expedition and I have always loved it. I know that efficiency is the order of the day and the engine that I have in mine. the 4.6L V-8, is living proof that everything does not have to be a clumsy six cylinder to get good fuel mileage. I have a V-6 and have owned others but never again as long as Ford builds the 4.6. My “tank” as one person referred to it above gets better fuel economy than most of the V-6 engines by any manufacturer.

Further, the fact remains that there is a need for people to be able to buy vehicles of this size other than large families and vast amounts of gear. I have one such situation and I am tired of being a member of the forgotten group with all of the downsizing going on. There is still market for cars such as the Crown Vic and the Grand Marquis. If there weren’t they would not sell as well as they do. I have become unable over the years to use shoehorns to get in some of the smaller vehicles and I would need a crane to hoist me out of one of them. I am disabled permanently and I do not want to have to try and deal with a small car for any reason at this point in my life. I also own a Crown Victoria and I will own nothing else until I see something better on the horizon and I just don’t see that happening. GM just don’t care what people has to say and stopped producing any vehicle that even remotely competes with the Crown and the Grand Marquis Mercury. I do not understand their thinking.

I do not care what anyone says this has nothing to do with the marketing strategies of thirty years ago. It is quite simply about filling a niche that has a need. Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater. It would be stupid. I know Ford is trying to make profitable changes; but please don’t force everyone to buy a pickup truck just to be able to get the room needed to stay comfortable. I have owned over 30 new Fords so far in my life as well as a few others. Ford has always been the most dependable for me and they have continued to produce a car that suits my needs. I hope that does not end with a false sense of what the public needs without listening to them first. I have already seen too many nameplates form the past done some serious injustice with newer designs taking the nameplates that do not come close to what the names have always represented.

As a long time owner of two GM Suburbans the new Expedition EL was a very welcome change for us. With 5 children plus the dog to haul the Expedition EL offers plenty of room. The real difference though is in the third row. The EL blows away the GM products. When using the EL for Home Depo runs its nice to not have to get involved with removing the third row as in the Suburban. The navigation system is excellent and the heated and cooled seats are a very nice feature. And to us just as important as the performance and creature comforts is the look of the vehicle. The Expedition has a great Truck/SUV look as opposed to the Chevy which is way too soft and in our opinion too much like their Uplander mini van. Nice job Ford.

The only thing that makes me not want one is the lack of flex/displacement system

As the owner of a RV trailer, I need the towing capacity and interior volume to make the trips and tow the camper. I’ve looked at the GM line with the Suburban and Tahoe and at the Ford line, and the 2007 Expedition has them beat hands down. I think Ford finally got this one right. Many people who complain about “bigger isn’t better” forget that there is a large RV industry that needs large SUV’s for towing travel trailers. Trucks arn’t always the answer. Some families need the additional space that only a SUV can deliver. Way to go Ford!

The 07 Expedition is the best yet. Compared to the Yukon, Tahoe, and surburban the Expedition is the best buy. No vehicle is 100% but the Expedition is right there. Great job Ford! Finally.

My wife and I have 4 boys and our ‘05 Expedition XLT fits nicely into our very active lives. The ‘05 handles great, has plenty of power and the interior is laid out nicely with very comfortable seating. The ONLY thing we needed was more storage behind the 3rd row seat. We test drove the new Expedition and the ‘07 EL solved this problem; but in our opinion created a few new ones. Put the shift lever back on the steering column and free up all the center console space we have on our ‘05. The folding head restraints block too much view - the ‘05 restaints descended vertically and blended nicely with the seat. The 2nd row seat folding operation is different and more cumbersome than before. Is it possible to develop a deeper well in the storage area behind the 3rd row seat - seems like a potential area for increased storage. Thank you, Tom.

ok i really love all of the new fords taht are being put out and im glad is making a effort to make desirable cars finally after a very very long time.. but when i saw this i really didnt like it i still love the original expedition styling and this one is just ugly to me.. its not good looking in person either.. but i still love that ford is finally trying to get it back together.

Well, Ford did say before the unveiling, that it has a better fuel economy than before. Which for a large SUV, is not bad at all. We have an 06′ Expedition King Ranch, and its fantastic. My father has always loved the expedition, he says feel and control of the expedition can’t be matched on any other vehicle. But, yeah, they really should come out with an Expedition Hybrid, that would definately save the expedition. But all we can do is hope.

We saw the 2007 Expedition last night at the show. The EL is great! With the kids 20 - 25 years old and aging parents, we can really use the extra room behind the seating for 7!!!!! Finally, a replacement for our Excursion which we absolutely love. We are trying to decide if we need to wait for the diesel engine that’s been promised. We have an average of 17MPG with our diesel Excursion.
The only detail which I wish could be improved on is the seating. The Expedition was the best (other than the Hummer H2), including the Escalade and the top line Yukon and Suburban, but I’d like a little more seat with a little more cushion. These big boys and their long legs aren’t as comfortable with the newer, smaller, firmer seating.

Once again, Ford has done a beautiful job at delivering a great looking full-sized SUV. Eye-catching interior and exterier design. The new Chevy Surburban and GMC Yukon XL comes very close, but Expedition is still #1.

When will Ford Learn. BIGGER IS NOT BETTER!!! They still don’t have a displacement system, and they think that out-Bigging the competition will work. Wo do they have working at marketing!?! There is a reason Explorer and F-150 sales have dropped over 15%. They need new designs that are more sensible and effiecient, yet still powerful. And it can be done. GM can do it, with the hybrid pickups, and with the new Sierra/Silverado. Dodge led the way with MultiDisplacement on the HEMIs. Toyata and Honda are doing it. Ford won’t learn that the marketing scheme that worked 30 years ago isn’t working. While yes, there are people who have large families and lots of gear to haul, but the majority of the people who buy these tanks do it as an alternative to the minivan, or for status.
